MATRIX’s Chief AI Scientist Steve Deng.

Prof. Steve Deng is an associative professor of School of Software, Tsinghua Univesity, where he has been a faculty member since 2008. It’s worth to note that Tsinghua University is a major research university in Beijing, China. The university has graduated numerous Chinese leaders in politics, business, academia and culture. Tsinghua University is ranked as one of the top academic institutions in China, Asia, and worldwide. Also it has been ranked as the best engineering and computer science school in the world. Steve Deng completed his ME and BE studies at Tsinghua University.
Steve Deng’s research interests include machine learning, industry data analytics, and computer architecture. Prof. Deng, since 2016, has been the Vice Principle Architect of China Railway Rollingstock Corporation’s Prognostics Health Management for High-Speed Train Project, which focuses on leveraging modern machine learning techniques to revolutionise the operation and maintenance of railway vehicles. Also, he is the author or co-author of over 50 research papers and his book, was adopted as the textbook of IC design by Tsinghua and many other universities. Deng’s work on deep learning based image detection was ranked number one in many prestigious challenges (PASCAL VOC and COCO). He received many awards, including a best paper award on International Conference on Computer Design 2013, NVIDIA partnership professor Award, and Tsinghua Key Talent Award.

MATRIX AI Network Chief Network Architect Bill Li

Prof. Bill Li is a top-level chip design expert and communications expert in China. As a main member of China’s chief engineering team, he was a major contributor of many 4G, 4,5G and 5G standards of China. It was amazing to find out that he even designed the first China’s WiFi transceiver chip. Bill Li also was one of the leading team members who worked on the communication system of China’s first aircraft carrier — Liaoning Dispatching command system. In addition, he worked on a various commercial chips for mass production and won numerous provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological awards. Bill Li is the author of book called “Communication IC Design” which won the first place in Jingdong’s sales list, as the textbook for the postgraduate chip design course of the first-class universities like Beijing. Currently this textbook is used by many other prestigious universities. Before joining the Matrix project, he was responsible for the design of Hong Kong Shangya exchange network technology architecture, data structure design and digital asset trading platform. He was carrying out data analysis on the operation of existing products to optimize various functions. Bill Li effectively contributed to the exchange with significantly increasing user experience and enhancing user’s affinity and ease of use.

Tim Shi — the Chief Mining and Chip Scientist

Tim Shi is the Chief Mining and Chip Scientist in Matrix AI Network project. He is one of the leading team members who are responsible for designing and developing the MATRIX mining machine, as well as the development of the next generation of artificial intelligence chips. Tim Shi got his Ph.D., degree in Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research area was Chip Design. Along with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academy of Sciences is an institution of China, functioning as the national scientific think tank and academic governing body, providing advisory and appraisal services on issues stemming from the national economy, social development, and science and technology progress. It is headquartered in Xicheng District, Beijing, with branch institutes all over mainland China. It has also created hundreds of commercial enterprises, Lenovo being one of the most famous. It is the world’s largest research organisation, comprising around 60,000 researchers working in 114 institutes, and has been consistently ranked among the top research organisations around the world. The Chinese Academy of Sciences was ranked the №1 research institute in the world by Nature Publishing Index 2017, by Nature Publishing Group.
Dr. Shi is a veteran of the semiconductor industry. He was the Principal System Architect at AMD and headed corporate and university technology partnerships for AMD in the China region. Dr. Shi previously held positions at several leading international IC companies such as Synopsys and ARM. He was also the Senior Chip Design Engineer at Samsung Semiconductor Inc, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, Ltd. in Korea. Interesting enough, Tim Shi gave a speech in the first Jiangsu Virtual Reality Development Conference, in 2017. As a Senior Manager of AMD VR, Computing Platform and Solutions, he spoke about the Future of Virtual Reality. Knowing that Virtual Reality industry is growing rapidly and the technology is definitely going to be the future, maybe we will see MATRIX AI Network blockchain contribution to VR field too? Worth a thought.

The AI Miner: A Powerful Addition to the Matrix Ecosystem

On Oct. 31st 2019, Matrix was invited to a meetup hosted by Green Mining in Shanghai, where Professor Steve Deng and CEO Owen Tao shared the latest happenings of Matrix and talked about their vision of a distributed cloud platform.
They took the opportunity to introduce the Apocalypse, a mining machine equipped with the AI technology developed by Matrix Space. This marks yet another step towards building our AI-powered ecosystem.

By partnering up with Green Mining, Matrix has equipped the Apocalypse with our own AI technology. Our AI mining algorithm will enable the machine to stay power efficient and always adopt the optimal mining solution, while maintaining a good balance between mining and computing for AI.

The Apocalypse supports data mining, AI training, 3D rendering, meteorologic analysis, biological computing and clinical diagnosis. Once connected to the platform, it will start lending out extra computing power and gaining profits for doing so.
Though new to the Matrix ecosystem, the Apocalypse will play an essential role in laying the foundation for our new computing power distribution platform. In 2018, Matrix A Network launched a new public demonstration of its proprietary technology, heralding a new standard in transactional speed and efficiency. “The AI-based MATRIX platform has an ability to process more than 50,000 transactions per second — more than Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, more even than PayPal and Visa! This is because of the fusion of powerful artificial intelligence and the hybrid consensus (PoW + PoS) mechanism of the MATRIX blockchain,” explained Owen Tao, CEO of MATRIX AI Network. “With the PoS-based random clustering, a small number of nodes will be chosen as delegates. The transactions are broadcast only among these delegates. In previous blockchains, transactions have to transfer to every node in a P2P network and the latency increases as the number of nodes grows. With our algorithm, the small number of nodes enables a significantly lower latency because of the reduced overhead of broadcasting a transaction.”
