If we take a trip down memory lane, there was a time Nigeria board was requested for on this forum, but due to one reasons or the other, we were not given local board. It would be as a result of some reasons, best known to theymos, but of which the reasons will be genuine.

CryptopreneurBrainboss created a local thread, Africa Bitcointalk Community Hangout., where some of us do have some discussions related to bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies and our country. Later, we noticed all of us there are Nigerians, we finally have to discuss about it, and CryptopreneurBrainboss changed it to Nigerian Bitcointalk Community Hangout.. Two languages are accepted on the thread, English and Pidgin.

The thread surfaced to be for Nigerians and we are happy for that as the evolution of Nigeria local board on bitcointalk is dawning to become reality. That is why we are making a request for theymos to grant our request and give us Nigerians a local board.

There are many reasons we Nigerians need local board
1. Like the Brainboss exchange service, some new Nigerians may not know there is anything like that, but moving it to our local board will make it more easy to be seen and known. Not only Brainboss service, there will be some Nigerians that will like to provide service for people in Naira (the Nigeria fiat).

2. There was a day I wanted to convert litecoin to Naira, I have to call a member on this forum that did it for me, requesting such directly from our local baord would have been the best which will make such transactions transparent in case by making such offer on our local baord.

3. Our government just banned cryptocurrencies, but we know it is going to be legalized back, our local board is a place to easily find latest information that will be posted by our members about how to exchange Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies  to Naira during this hard time. The way we can still make trades in Bitcoin, in other cryptocurrencies and in naira will be easily discussed on our local board.

Nigerians have many active users on this forum, only what we need is for us to be given a local board, we active users are ready to develop the board. Please, we need support from other members about this to help us leave positive comments which are true about us Nigerians to convince theymos into giving us a local board.

Boards requested for
  • Nigeria

  • Altcoins

There are many reasons we Nigerians need local board
One other reason is that Nigeria has a fast growing Bitcoin market, with a large percentage of the citizens looking to understand and own Bitcoin. Bitcointalk being the largest discussion forum for Bitcoin would attract a lot of these users as we can see by checking the activity on the local thread. Having a dedicated local board would make those users feel more welcome and create a strong community.

I noticed that some of the arguments against the Nigerian board in the past, was the lack of a distinct language;
• Pidgin English is a very distinct language in Nigeria and parts of Africa and is common to everyone irrespective of tribe.
• Local boards aren't really divided by language, but rather it's a community of individuals who share things in common.
• On a micro level, there are news and updates that would be useful to the Nigerian community, but not so to the rest of the world. Having a board to post such is a welcome development in my opinion.

I would support this, and not just for the fact am a Nigerian but
+ Nigeria is the most populated black nation and very resourceful, and excited about crypto-currency
+ many African nation see Nigeria as a pillar of example and if Nigeria board get shape they can be encouraged of the free and fairness of forum
+ help other members know about the fast growth of crypto-currency, which may foster business friendship.
+ also for -Newbie- Nigerians coming to the forum which are much, they can have a sense of relief and be bold to ask question in their frequently used words, thereby learning more.

I support this suggestion since Africa has a lot of crypto user and they contribute a significant amount of transaction volume in crypto market before.

I suggest to OP to atleast gather all the active Nigerian  member here in the forum so that the admin will see the need of adding Nigerian Local Board. Best of Luck

I think the reason why the request was denied in the past is because all of the Nigerians On Bitcointalk speak English and admins probably didn't think a Pidgin English board would have many users. But if the number of Nigerians is much higher now, it makes sense that you guys have your own local. However, if your local would allow users to write in English as well, the admins might turn down the idea. A Pidgin English only local would have better chances.

Discuss among yourselves how you would like your board to look and what sub-boards it should have. That helped the Croatian community get new sub-boards a few months ago. Those ides were then presented to theymos and Cyrus and the new boards were created.

I think it could help to see how many Nigerians there actually are and how many of you are active on Bitcointalk. If the numbers aren't as high as they should be, maybe an African local could be an alternative option. In that case, you have to agree on which local languages would be accepted.

Good luck with the request!

I think you are correct, and to add, and some may find it new, pidgin English is not a language thats familiar to Nigerians alone but some African countries, such as Ghana are familia with the language, and they maybe excited to connect since we not only connected by the language but by distance.

In addition to what Charles_Tim had aired out, Nigerians are one of the most active users in the bitcointailk forum that had contributed positively for her development, in the recent time, we have about 500+ active members if I'm not mistaken and we keep having new members that comes in on a regular basis and more to be coming.

I came across similar thread long time ago by a user requesting same for Nigerian local board, I came to realize that Nigerians infact African as a whole weren't active enough to form a community at that time, now we have accumulated up to 520 replies and 11722 views with up to 27 pages in our community hangout discussing crypto related topics in our understood pidgin language at the moment.

My explanations above might not be convincing enough but it shows some slight improvement more than before, It's high time we get what we are requesting for.

Edit:
Here are some active Nigerian members in the forum. [members upward]

I don't think there should be strict restrictions on what languages are allowed. Communication is key and if the community understands Common English (UK or US) as well as Pidgin English, then any of them can be used to discuss on a Nigerian board. The Indian local is run primarily using the English language, which is one of their national languages.

I think it could help to see how many Nigerians there actually are and how many of you are active on Bitcointalk. If the numbers aren't as high as they should be, maybe an African local could be an alternative option. In that case, you have to agree on which local languages would be accepted.
A rough estimate could be drawn from the local thread linked in the OP. It's an estimate cause not every Nigerian who is active on the forum posts there or is aware of the thread. About broadening it to accommodate more African countries, that was how the local thread started, but majority of the interactions were from Nigerians, so it would not change much to make it a continental board.

Considering how popular bitcoin is in Nigeria despite not so friendly government I am glad to see that you decided to ask for your own local board and it's an important first step but I think that you will have to increase your activity in Nigerian Bitcointalk Community Hangout in order to have real chances of getting your own board. Since you have many members that are active in English part of the forum, that shouldn't be an issue, you just have to encourage them to be more active there so you show forum staff that there is a real need for local board and that you "outgrown" the thread started by @CryptopreneurBrainboss.

I wanted to support most active communities without local boards so I included them (starting from October 2020) in monthly overview of the local boards activity so you can see how Nigerian thread stands compared to others.

The Indian local is run primarily using the English language, which is one of their national languages.
As explained to me by one Indian member, reason why Indians use English language in their board is very simple: they have 22 official languages and it would lead to chaos if they start opening sub boards for each of them. Using English is more elegant solution, but that also probably discourages some from being active there.

Thanks for this information, I did not even know it is existing. There are many of us that are not still posting in the local thread, and many are not active yet. If we are given local board, you will still see increase in Nigerain local board posts per month. I am very certain it will increase. Some consider the local thread as a way many information can not be passed across, there will be increase in our zeal to make quality topics and replies if we are given local baord.

Judging by this list and the personal reputation of the members, the request for a local board is really justified.
I'm an active member of the Croatian local board and throughout this time I realized how important this local section is for our local members.
First of all, not all members speak good English and some of them are avoiding the English part of the forum.
Local community members have a better understanding of the local situation and can give better advice on local options for selling or buying crypto, or finding stores that allow you to buy products or pay for services with bitcoin etc.
Local members can even arrange social gatherings or meetings as we already had in our local part of the forum.
Based on all this, I believe that if some basic conditions are met, all local communities, including the Nigerian one, should get their local board and I support that.

This is a very important announcement, I  and other active Nigerians would be grateful if the request is granted and it will be super active considering the widespread of Blockchain amongst the teeming Nigerian youths.

Nigeria is the most populated black nation and has the largest Cryptocurrency users in Africa and top 5 in the world today. In Nigeria Pidgin English is the most commonly used, every tribe understands Pidgin English. 98% of Nigerians speaks, write and understand Pidgin English fluently

These are some other reasons why Nigeria local board should be created, there are roughly about 1M+ Nigerians here on the forum( if I'm wrong I'll eat crow) out of the 3M total active users.

Local Board is a place for bad English speakers, it will help them to be informed and speak whatever is easy for other users to understand. However, because the increase in bitcoin users there is quite significant, it's a good idea for the forum admin to consider your idea.
I support your idea that it is time you have your own local board. Given that so many people there spoke English, would it not die or have little activity in the long run ?

Despite the fact that the central bank of Nigeria recently placed a ban on the use of cryptocurrencies in the country, the interest in crypto has continued growing. It's also no longer news that Nigerians are some of the most active participants in the space - including traders, investors, developers and even end users who use Bitcoin for their day-to-day activities. One of the biggest problems with first time interactions is that you don't really know where you fit into the community or who you can meet. I felt the same when I first became part of this wonderful community. But it doesn't have to always be like this.

@Charles-Tim already make mention of the thread we currently use for our discussions. The thread used to be sufficient enough for our discussions but we have since grown as a community and even bigger than a "one thread fits all". I believe there should be separation of concerns - different threads (with topic replies) for very specific purposes under a central board.

On that note, I support Charles-Tim and other members of the Nigerian community with move to get our own board. I do hope that our request is granted as this would go a long way to help the Nigerian crypto community grow.

The board won't won't be speaking English but it would be speaking pidgin English it's a form of English but a vulgar format for the not so sound in fluent English, and they communicate in that way, many Nigerians has a lot to contribute but shying away of how to put there post in, I think a local board can help them before they are ripe to go in to main/prominent boards.

Am pretty sure I would not have ran away from the platform 2 years back when I first viewed it............ If there was a local board for Nigeria....
Confidence always builds up once someone has that feeling of belonging,
I hope and pray this request is being granted us, as am very sure most of us Nigerians are here without any proper connection to our fellowmen....
Not only will we connect, but we can learn faster, relate better and carry out transactions p2p with transparency  (especially as our government has banned crypto trading)

again the need for this request to be granted cannot be under emphasized....
I sign off

Board requested for
1. Bitcoin discussion
2. Altcoin discussion
3. Off topics
From one side is very good, especially to increase knowledge about crypto, especially Bitcoin in Nigeria.

On the other hand I have doubts about these two topics:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5315523.0

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5315130.0

So, I have a question, if, supposing that the local Board request is granted by Admin.

1. What about the news on the topic, true or not.

2. If, Admin agrees, if the government prohibits the Nigerian community from using crypto, especially Bitcoin and blocks all banks, automatically the Nigerian local board will die.

I am only concerned about bitcoin users in Nigeria especially Africa, if that happens.
Because I see that African people currently have many Bitcoin users, the government is actually doing rules that are not good for the community.

However, I pray for all of you especially in Nigeria, the government is not doing as said in the above topic.

And the Bitcointalk Forum Admin has wise considerations about this application, hopefully it remains safe, Bitcoin success for Africa.

China has their own local board and ban the use of crypto assets in their country. It is even always surprising that China mine 75% of total Bitcoin in 2019, while China still mined 65% of total Bitcoin in 2020. When India banned crypto assets, they also still have local board on this forum which was very helpful for them to know what to do.

Bitcoin can also be banned by a country, but the people of the country still have as many as possible ways to make use of Bitcoin while we strongly still believe crypto assets will later be legalized in Nigeria. When Nigerian government ban Bitcoin, why was Bitcoin price increasing that day to the extent it reached $40000 recently.

Let us hope theymos will give we Nigerians local board which will be very helpful for us.

I think one of the main factors considered in creating Local board is language barrier.

Example, bitcointalk is English by default, a Chinese man, or an Russian man can not understanding what is written here in english, so to solve this barrier, the need of having the local board is needed. This is quite different from why the Nigeria board is needed.
