Hi guys,

Just bought 3 more 3070 (impossible as you know to buy 3080 or 3060ti- at least in my country), so my second rig will have 6 rtx 3070. The problem comes with psu (almost no stock of +1000W anywhere), so I don't know if it would be a good idea to buy a 1200w for 350€ or btter connect 2 700W psu with a cable like this:

https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B0788KTZPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hope you can helpe me Smiley

Thanks

Are you saying there is no stock of 1000watt power supply on any store? That's not possible, there is no scarcity on power supplies like graphic cards lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Go on amazon or ebay I'm sure these power supply are surplus on the websites

Well the evga super nova is in usa amazon maybe the op can not buy from the usa amazon

 https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Supernova-Modular-Warranty-220-G5-1000-X1/dp/B07WMTD41Z/ref=sr_1_1?

the pcie cables are 8pin and 6p which needs an adapter to work for 3070

the seasonic 1000watt is 259

https://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-GX-1000-Full-Modular-Application-SSR-1000FX/dp/B07WVWJW8N/ref=sr_1_1?

the seasonic 850 watt is 129

https://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-Semi-Modular-Systems-Warranty-Application/dp/B084TSBB2R/ref=sr_1_1?

semi-moduler

2x the price for 150 watts is a rip off.

I do think you found him a 1200 watt they is good if he can buy it.

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Toughpower-Modular-Warranty-PS-TPD-1200MPCGUS-1/dp/B00LZVOK18/ref=sr_1_3?

it has proper pcie cables in that they are all 8pin so no adapters.

This days we have lots of logistics around the globe, anyone should be able to buy anything from US stores, I'm not from the US am from Africa and I use a logistics service to order goods from US stores, it works by giving users a genuine US address for shipping, you can shop yourself to your address or the team can do that for you your choice but it works

may not.  I give it 95% on a 3070 if you set watts to 150 or less.

I would never use it on a 3090.  As they can pull tons of power.

I never melted gpu pcie cables of any psu mining if attached to gpus.
I have melted pcie cables attached to asic miners.

I have melted pico adapters attached to server psu's mining with gpus
I have melted sata to riser cables mining with gpu's
I have melted molex to riser cable mining with gpus's

been mining with gpus for 9 years (hard to believe it is that long)

If I were op I would look for the  thermal take.  but I very likely would just run 2 mobos  rather than 1 six card.

the money is in the 3070's the other stuff is less important.

I would do a 850 watt seasonic focus 2 gpus 1 mobo

I would do a 1200 watt thermal take  4 gpus 1 mobo

rather than muscle a six card mobo.

Logic is cards are safer in 2 rigs from a total disaster.

As we all know getting cards is crazy hard to do.

I guess the cable will work perfectly ok on cards that draw less wattage like gtx1660 Ti or super, I won't dare use it on a big card like RTX 3080/3090, not safe IMO I believe this can really make the fire wish come true 🤣

Chart of cable connections and maximum wattages for connectors and chains off psu:

https://www.gpuminingresources.com/p/psu-cables.html

Stay within the wattage limits and no issue.

6 pin can supply 216w.   So if power draw on the connection is 216w or less then you can use 6 to 6+2pin adapter safely.

For 6*3070 it would be better 2*850 than 1*1200 as for me. And with 1200 PSU you can get a problem with a quantity of cables. Or you need to use molex or sata risers. As for me - I prefer server PSU. It always gives you enough power and cables.

And for 12 3070's gpus on an ASROCK PRO BTC+ mb? would you recommend 2 big psus or 3 smaller ones? And if 3, which ones would be ok? Thanks.

1 rig = 1 psu is always better

density..density..density..

if you have 30 rigs, imagine having 60 PSU? troubleshooting ease, lesser point of failures etc..etc..

if you only have 1 or 2 rigs then you can be geeky with stuff all you want.

If you are new to the whole mining stuff it's better you buy a single powerful power supply instead, in fact I prefer a single powerpack In a mobo, it just feels more smoother than using two powerpack on a single motherboard

all cards can sometimes go runaway thermal.  That is they can say fuck you to the power settings and pull every fucking watt they can take.

Happens more on windows than on linux

happens with amd and or nvidia.

I run 1 3060ti in my main window rig. It is set to nicehash and uses msiafterburner set to 125 watts.

It has 2  connections a six and an eight.  it is an aorus master a high end 3060ti model and at least one a week it drops settings and goes to 195 watts same hash but hard on the gear as it is 70 extra watts.

I would be afraid if a 3080 does this. Set to 220 watts and jumps to 325 watts.

with the cards being so very valuable why risk 2 plus on one mobo

separate mobos with separate psu's is a better choice.

mostly due to lack of good psu deals and the value of the cards.

you would kick your self in the butt if you blend 2 850 watt psus and burn the rig out.
It can happen.

Count the wires in the cable. 6 wire cables are limited to 216 watts, the equivalent of 8 pin + 6 pin at the GPU end.
If a 2x 8 pin (300W) GPU connection is needed the cable should have 8 wires, or use 2 cables.

New PSUs should all have 8 wire PCIe cables and support 2x8 at the GPU. Watch out, some cheap PSUs
cheat and use an 8 pin connector but only 6 wires.

Certainly!! Forgot about the existance of these gpu splitters, so thanks so much for the info!!

I have found a nice psu on second hand: seasonic prime ultra titanium 1000w model: SSR-1000TR but in the website it shows the cables included are 4 individual pci-e cables and 2 more "dual", so if I am not wrong with 4 splitters I could connect 4 rtx 3070 plus the 2 additional cards that could be connected "normally".

Is it right?

Since you are from spain why must you buy from Amazon if the product aren't available in spain location? Use ebay or Aliexpress and get your package delivered to you in days or a week time, just make sure you buying from a seller that have sold many items before, that's all.

it is so sad but this is the situation here, and probably in all Europe right now

so using 2 psu should not be as good as 1 big in terms of stability or realiability u think?

Since you are from spain why must you buy from Amazon if the product aren't available in spain location? Use ebay or Aliexpress and get your package delivered to you in days or a week time, just make sure you buying from a seller that have sold many items before, that's all.

can't wait more than 2 months for aliexpress or 2 weeks for usa and meanwhile I have 6 rtx 3070 without mining xD

the only option I see is buying the asus rog thor 1200w and buying the splitters

the joke will cost 370€

Thanks

i prefer for 3-6 gpus only 1 PSU.
