Almost got killed sending 0.1121 btc from electrum 4.0.9 wallet to another electrum 4.0.9. wallet. Confirmation said: "The fee for this transaction seems unusually high. 66.23% of the amount." Also mentioned "0.5mBTC additional fees. Had I pressed "ok" to transfer 0.1121 BTC from one wallet to another, it would have cost me 0.57424 BTC ($27,500)! I also tested to send 0.1btc to Binance: 693% transaction fee + 0.5 BTC! Tried all wallet options and each time the transaction fee would wipe out my stack! All my BTC is trapped in my wallet, due to insane fees. Is there any way for me to get my BTC out of the wallet and pay a normal fee? NOTE: both wallet addresses begin with bc1.PLEASE HELP!

Your input is too high is the reason for the high transaction fee, all you need to do now is to consolidate. Hope the electrum is on computer because mobile electrum wallet can not customize (edit) the fee and the mempool is congested. To consolidate your input, send all the bitcoin to one address on your electrum wallet, set the fee to 5 satoshi/vbyte or lower. The mempool is congested for now, but likely it will be less congested this weekend, the transaction will be successful later ones the mempool is not congested. After, you will be able to send using normal fee as expected.

You can adjust the fee slider when confirming the transaction. The main problem with that is the transaction could take quite a long time to confirm. That is unfortunately the normal fees if you want it to be confirmed within a reasonable period of time, I would advise you to just wait for the fees to drop soon. You can monitor it with this site as well: https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h.

As for the additional 0.5mBTC fees, are you using the 2FA wallet by any chance?

How many inputs (incoming transactions) are you combining to send out?
If you have 100 incoming transactions of 0.005 and you are attempting to send .5 it's going to cost you more then sending .5 if you only had 2 inputs of .25 each.

https://mempool.space/ shows a simplified picture of how much of a sat/vB fee you have to pay to get into the next few blocks.

A bit of a discussion about fees here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5250569.0 and here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2848987.msg55689892#msg55689892

As of this post fees are 3x to 4x more then they were 4 or 5 hours ago.
They do tend to go down a bit over the weekend too. So keep an eye on them.

-Dave

-snip- Also mentioned "0.5mBTC additional fees.
You must be using a 2FA wallet because of the "additional fee", that also explains the insane total fee since MultiSig transactions are way larger in size compared to standard SegWit or even legacy transactions.
Here's the info about the additional fee: https://api.trustedcoin.com/#/electrum-help
The average mempool size is getting lower by the hour so you may be able to send a lower-fee transaction.

You can also opt-out from the additional 5mbtc fee by disabling 2fa by simply restoring a new 2fa wallet using your seed phrase and selecting "disable".
But if you do that, you may as well create another Standard wallet and consolidate all your funds there by sending max to save fees in the future.
Take note that by opting-out from using 2fa, you'll have to be extra aware of your machine/wallet's security.

Most importantly, your post has some inconsistencies in the unit of Bitcoin, were you supposed to send 0.1BTC to Binance and sent 0.1mBTC instead in your "test"?
That will surely have a higher fee than the sent amount. You can select 'BTC' in the "Tools->Preferences" 'base unit' if you don't want to use mBTC.

At least you learned your lesson. Make sure you always double-check everything or understand what you're doing before you press "OK". Crypto is not that difficult as long as you have some patience.

Hopefully, you won't do the same mistake in the future, gl.
