Mercedes has made their decision, they are going to go with Kimi Antonelli for next season when Hamilton leaves. This is definitely a good deal for Mercedes to think about the future, I am not sure if they are going to be any better, right now I would place them at fourth place, and they are also fourth place in the constructors as well, we all know Red Bull is first but that's mainly because Max is overachieving with a bad car, and Ferrari is right on their heels this time, and we have seen McLaren do better than Mercedes as well.

So unless they change something and just keep it going like this, Kimi will have a lot of trouble with that car for sure, he is a very young driver though, so he should be given a few years to get better.

That is some cool news to hear that Mercedes is already readying themselves for Hamilton's eventual departure from the team,
But did they announce who will be lead driver for the Mercs?
Because the way Russell has been improving in his driving if you can really call it that. It would be a blow to him if they put Kimi first before him in the drivers seat of Mercedes being with the team through all the thick and thin of winnings these past 2 seasons (joined 2022).

I agree that it's the time to do it but to be honest, the one who really benefitted it was Sainz right? Because he locked up at the first lap and then because of the incident, it became a red flag, and had to restart the whole race. It's just really luck to have that happen in a way for Ferrari.

Yes, Sainz was the luckiest driver there.    Otherwise he was going to be DNF. He even got his grid position back after the restart. I wonder how flexible they are with these rules.

Most of the time we see drivers getting back their previous positions. Is it because of not completing a full lap yet or something else?    Because Sainz's incident was before Perez - Magnussen accident as you know.

As for Mercedes' decision on the driver to replace Hamilton, I have also heard about Kimi Antonelli. But do they really think of giving the seat to a rookie? I mean Russell didn't go there directly. He drove for Williams before.

Would make sense from what I looked into, the one we were discussing about is a rookie driver so they would want a driver with more experience behind Russell who undoubtedly be the lead driver for Mercedes once Hamilton leaves.
Since Kimi is only 17 if taking him under their wing, they would be trying to do what Red Bull did with a young Verstappen in his rookie year with the F1 team. Not including Scuderia Toro Rosso who he had four races with before getting the seat with the Bulls at also 17 being the youngest driver to race in Formula 1.

I know Sebastian Vettel knows a lot more than us clearly in term of racing sports, but im in doubt about his statement, i support in the fact of George Rsusel is a super talented driver and one of the best of his generation but he has a BIG problem for me, and that problem is not being the regular you need to be in race and also making dumb mistakes in critical part of the race, for example the two crash in last laps in some GPs.

Your talking about Russell right? It sort of threw me off of what you were saying when you said young because it feels that he has been in F1 for over a decade now.
Don't really know what age he began his career but these teams seem to want to get them in the driver's seat even before they are illegally allowed to drive on the regular streets of any city.
Don't know what the news on Sainz move will be for Hamilton yet.

Russell is a driver with quite big potential. But he is just not lucky at the same time.    Because he has coincided with Mercedes' bad times. If he was the partner of Hamilton before Red Bull age started then I think things would be pretty interesting. In my opinion, he could have been in the title race. Now he needs to be patient until being given a competitive car. But it doesn't look like this will happen before 2026 season.

However for now, Mercedes looks confident as for 2026 cars. It is said they already have one of the best engines for that season with new regulations. My dream is to watch 3-4 teams competing hard for the top.

Well, he is considered one of the younger drivers, being 26 years old. He started young in karting but in F1, he started in Williams, I think in 2019, that is his debut IIRC. He is to drive for Mercedes until 2025, so I'm not sure how it will go out now.

So expect some wild slipping and sliding out there since they are basically driving near a water held area named Lac de I'lle Notre Dame.
So just from the name they are racing besides a lake. Great place for hydroplaning.

Yeah the track is expected to be quite wet during the race weekend.    This can make this weekend really fun for us to tell the truth while it is an extra challenge for drivers. Maybe another surprising result might be seen what do you say?    I would be okay about seeing a different winner after seeing it in 2 out of 3 most recent races.

Ferrari and McLaren are expected to be strong on this track, and even close to Verstappen.    I really hope we see another winner from one of these teams to make the season continue more excitingly.

Weather forecast doesn't looks good. It's going to rain for whole race weekend and it's not going to be short rain, it will be for almost whole day.
Probably now I should bet that red flag will be shown during race, considering weather conditions, there is big chance for it. But I hope that race won't be stopped for so long like we had in legendary 2011 Canadian GP.
Weather conditions may be big factor which can bring some unexpected results.

Hopefully we can get a practice session in the when they are going to start in the next 6-7 hours as per the F1 race scheduled. Believe it is at 1:30pm EST where Montreal is on the east coast.

So, not that much has changed to the betting scene, but probably those few tens of decimals are a lot of money, Max has now the highest odds lately at 1.5, you might not like the past performance but it's still Max and RB, 1.5 in a combination might be worth something.

I'm looking at the last bets and it was +/-/+ for me over the last three races so let's see how bad this one goes, I have some combinations I looked at  spread over different bookies :
Charles Leclerc to Finish on the Podium & Carlos Sainz to Finish in the Top 6  1.5
Max Verstappen to Win the Race & Lando Norris to Finish in the Points 1.67
Winning Car  Ferrari/Mclaren 5/5 as insurance for Max flopping

All my guts tell me to go on Max/RB overkill in this but one flop ruins the day and even an overall win in 6 combinations barely gives you a 2:1 .
So, anyone having some weird bet, combination, some two-way insurance bet?

Dificult to know man, i dont see so much value on motorsports odds like 1.5 when the driver or team selected are not in his best shape like RB right now and with two teams trying to catch them like Ferrari and Mclaren.

The main problem for me in motorsports is, one little thing can fail and make your bet going down the pipe.

Don't know if any of this is truth but speculation is swarming with all the movements in the drivers seats for alot of teams right now.
I believe Lewis announcement during the season is to blame. Wait until it was over to do this so there isn't such much unknown for each team only those who signed two year contracts going into 2026 are known at this point.

Look like practice 1 made Norris a winner. So just waiting for P2 to start in the next few minutes.

As a result, it looks like a downgrade rather than an upgrade.    This makes me more hopeful about seeing a different winner again after leaving the Monaco GP behind.

According to the current odds for qualifying session, Verstappen has 2.50 odds while Leclerc has 3.60. Maybe after FP3 this gap might be closer so I think betting on Leclerc makes sense here. He has a good chance for that.

I did see the results on this one, it's really different now, and also with the weather, it might affect the results of the race for sure. I think they would be evaluating what they have discovered in the practice. I do hope it would be an interesting race with overtakes, hopefully lol.

So after Russell getting the pole position for today's race due to a technicality of who gets the timing first if there is an exact result just as Verstappen had done. We have the odds market for each driver as shown below:


What is strange is after not getting pole position Max's odds are better @1.69x to win the Canadian GP.
It must be due to the one who received pole or the weather could be a factor.
Who really knows what these could be in deciding those odds but Russell right after qualifying was done was @3.90x when I checked while Verstappen was @2.25x so the oddsmaker must of seen something that could favor Max to win today.

So will we be seeing Intermediate or the wets come out today?
As crwth had already mentioned, it is all dependent on the weather towards our result for this race.
The main question that could be telling of today's race for this right on the lake race track.
