I would say it was a bit more competitive but from way different reasons.

I know. And I fear that after the drivers figure out that wasting power here and giving the opponent the chance to recover just a tad later is counterproductive (especially for the tyres) and will stop competing this hard. There's quite a learning curve and frustration because of slowness and, with no longer having the feeling of a proper F1 car, I am almost sure that I am not even close of understanding how frustrating is overall for the drivers.

Now, we compare it with the last season, when McLarens were virtually unbeatable for half a season now we have Mercedes, we had Max doing whatever he could with a bad car now we have Max...and his teammate... ...
I don;t think it takes that much to beat the last season's first half.

Imho it's too early to draw conclusions, constructors did recover in the past, others have botched it during the season, there's a long way to go, although Mercedes has for now quite a margin in advance.

The only good surprise is Ferrari, I think this was a first of them nailing it till the end, so we might have an extra team not being a complete failure

Imho RBR is also a good surprise, I enjoyed watching Hadjar go so good... well, until the car broke.
And about Ferrari, please don't forget that a few years ago both Ferrari and Haas had a wonder-start of season, and later they started disappointing.

Anyhow, this chaos is more enjoyable even if the race itself sucked

100% agreed.

I want to see how the cars will drive on a different racetrack,  Bahrain would have been the perfect experiment with the previous top speed records, but probably we won't see a race there.

We may see new/unexpected tracks this year, but not in the gulf area though... Let's see how/when the other chaos ends.

This was the reason why I couldn't watch the entire race due to it starting when I had a rest since it began at nearly midnight.
But I think it ended as most expected the way it did with Mercs being top of the podium with Ferrari in the top 10.

"As most expected" is somewhat debatable imho, given that 4 of the youngsters have finished in top10 and even Lewis had a decent race - one of the very few since he's at Ferrari and a better one than Lando's.
But yeah, the Mercs did a 1-2, which was far from unexpected (although after the first 1/3 of the race I thought that Ferrari will have something to say in that).

Well one thing is for certain, none of the drivers think it was a great idea to bring this battery exchange approach to F1:

It seems to be a manufactured way to have more takeovers. And it just seems not to be good in making for exciting races. Some have said the same about DRS but atleast it was easier for the drivers to follow other than this hybrid engine debacle.

Think they are going to gather more data from the Chinese GP and move on to minor adjustments after that race on the 22nd.

Just began watching it because the start time must of been in the middle of the night in my timezone.
Showing it as a repeat for the sports channel on cable but from what you are saying it looks like I didn't miss much.

They just showing Verstappen and Lindblad on lap 7 battling and their battery power gauge just like from the graphic I posted above.

The places didn't change much with only the McLarens getting knocked out early.

Same. I thought it was next weekend as I heard from at the end of first race they mentioned something about a shuffling around but I guess they must of switched it back happening yesterday.
As I mentioned above to @emrecemsan , the starting row did not change much from the start of the race with Antonnelli keeping his first place start right up til the end with Mercedes getting the one two finish.
Then the Ferrari's finishing after them and it is looking as if this will be a common theme through out the rest of the season.

As for your take on the race, yeah the Mercedes fans will be thrill with how the first race and this one ended.

They also announced last week that the two races scheduled are cancelled in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

A huge lot of overtaking. Quite a battle here and there (eg inside Ferrari), but after all, it was all completely useless, since all that mattered was the build/power of the car and the battery setup (eg Hamilton asked for a different setup at some point and it made a difference vs Leclerc).
Spectacular? Yes, if you miss the big picture and you don't notice how futile everything is.

Overall I've noticed that the tyres are not ready for the current type of racing, where the aero (and race conditions) would allow one stay for much longer at under 1s behind the opponent.

Of course, I am happy for Kimi. Heck, I'm even happy for Lewis (who would have believed that?). They've got nice results.
But really? If one overtakes just to kill the battery and get overtaken minutes later, it's futile. I've seen a very few proper overtakes, but too few. I actually started looking up about the GT3 race.

Some more points:
* It looks like FIA is considering adding 10% more power to the combustion engine. But I think that it may not be enough. Something is off in the use of battery and the overall balance.
* I've heard that Mercedes is allowed to use this engine until 1st of June, afterwards the more clear rule will come into action.
* I think that Nyck de Vries would do great in current Formula1. He was a couple of years too early.

I'm wondering how this would have worked without the batteries.
I mean, the cars are smaller, narrower, and lighter just purely theoretically, it would have made passing easier, adding the weight and acceleration after a turn with less sideforce would have also made catching easier up after a turn,  so, why haven't they tried keeping things simpler?
Do they really want some Fast and the Furious Nos moments or what?

The race was not that enjoyable to watch and probably would of like to play the game instead.
With that comment of F&F NOS, I had to ask myself: What are they really trying to accomplish with these battery modifications to the engines in the first place?
It is not making the F1 sport exciting but doing the exact opposite with the way the first two races went.

Honestly, I gave it some leeway because I didn't want to hate it because everyone hated it. After all we could see something that could just be funny after all, just overtake each other all the time could be a funny look, we have seen that type of f1 before, maybe it was time for this type of it. It literally looked like an arcade game for the first race so I thought it was funny.

I still think it "could" be good, the only reason why I hate it now is that it gives zero incentive to have a good driver. If you have the best car, you could put Mazepin to Mercedes today and he would still have a chance to win the race, and that part is the part that sucks. Otherwise I am not against the new type of cars, I am just against zero driver ability worth in these new style of cars.

I've watched NLS2 - way after it ended - and luckily I was able to skip parts of it. (And finally I've read they got DSQ, heh.)
It has some very cool parts - chasing, overtakes -, plus great engine sounds, but after all it was much too long.
Mario Kart or not, I guess that I'll still stick to F1.

However, I wish F1 would learn from these guys:
* proper engines and sounds
* broadcast on free stream (too), no matter you pack it with commercials

They broadcasting it for free not because they're Good Samaritans. This racing series isn't that big to be able to sell rights for big money. If they would get, I'm sure they would go behind the paywall. But now I saw maybe 20 different Youtube channels broadcasting it.
About race length, when you compare it with F1 it's a bit long, but when you look at 8 or 24 hours races, it's not that long
And Nurburgring lap is very long, but most parts of track is narrow and there isn't much place to overtake.

It looked like Max enjoyed his NLS2 race. He likes to drive there because he doesn't have to think about battery.    It was really more fun to watch than F1 to tell the truth.

I don't know why FIA is doing their best to keep people away from watching F1. There are more overtakes but they are all boring this season. Quality is the most important thing, not quantity.

By the way it looks like Red Bull can have even a worse season this year because of deciding to make their own engine...

Yeah, this crash happened because both cars arrived to corner with very different speed, before new regulations we didn't had such things, unless someone missed breaking point or their breaks were gone.

Max Verstappen talked about retiring before, and he did that again, there is a possibility that he retires at the end of this season. There is this desire in him that wants to try other racing as well, and because of the structure F1 races have, he keeps failing to try other stuff. It's clear that he wants to race for other styles and if he retires now, he will have like maybe 10 more years in him to keep trying, at other races.

The fact that Red Bull is bad also helps with that situation as well. I am not sure what Red Bull will do without him, no more max, no more horner, no more newey, we are talking about a team that could literally be at the bottom if they keep this up and lose everyone like this at this pace.

I think that he's just trying to put more pressure on RBR to invest where it's necessary and deliver a proper car.
If the car becomes competitive, Max will stay, imho, especially if he can do both F1 and GT3.

I've got to watch the race only yesterday. Piastri and a few more have started to understand how this Mario Kart goes and started to invest energy only when it makes sense.
The result was overtakes reversed almost immediately.
I've seen better races, I've seen worse. I guess that I started to adjust my expectations. After the regulations' change there should be somewhat better racing again.

Today it's at cable TV, which in my country is a norm. Not far from free TV.
My frustration is that the company having the rights doesn't do re-runs, probably in order to push their pay-per-view online services.

While I would not be surprised if Kimi wins, doesn't mean I consider him the uncontestable favorite.
You are right about Piastri and I am still unsure what has happened to him last year for quite a lot of months - I'm glad he's back.

Well, technically, so far Kimi is doing better than Piastri
-2025 Lando 1 win 3 podiums, Piastri 1 win 1 podium
-2026 Kimi 2 wins 3 podiums, George 1 win 2 podiums
Also, George is nothing close to a pilot who can deal with stress, I'm willing to bet that if the lead keeps growing, we're going to see him ramming Kimi out of the track if he gets the chance 

Anyhow, George is still the clear favorite with every bookie right now!
