Did another deal with someone and got a message "You can't give more than 5 ratings to the same user"

Is this a new limit or did I just never hit it before?

Although it would prevent feedback spam, if we keep doing successful trades it does limit what can be said about other users.

OK, new limits:
 - You can't give more than 5 ratings to a single user.
 - Your total sent ratings is limited to three times your activity, but at least 1.
 - The comment length is limited to 600 characters, but each newline counts as 120 characters.

IMO "did tons of trades with this user. All of them went fine. I trust him/her" should be enough even if we are talking about 2 or 2 dozen trades...

Create a thread and use it as reference if you have more to say than what fits into the 5 ratings. Keep in mind that multiple ratings from the same person count only as 1 in the score, so 1, 5, or 25 wouldn't make any difference for a casual observer, but if someone wants to read more - they can follow the link.

This is the best solution of it. But yeah personally I don't  think it’s a big worth to give someone more than 5 feedbacks. It’s enough to me

Agree, but the OP will decide for himself the best way to document his trading history with other users. I don't think it will take much ratings for one user for every successful trade. If the OP has a thread that is constantly being updated on its trading history then 1 ratings in my opinion is sufficient to represent its trust in one user who has successfully traded with it. It's just that the OP need to add a little description like "managed to make 25 smooth trade with this guy, check reference for more detail". Looks good to me.

Whether it's positive, negative or neutral, it still counts as a rating. Theymos is quite clear that one can never create more than 5 on a single profile.

What's the point of sending someone a positive, then a negative feedback at once though?

It was changed (unannounced IIRC) a couple of years ago.  I'd given six or seven trust feedbacks to Quickseller and a similar number to suchmoon then discovered the new five post limit.  If you've given more than five you now can't give more.  Delete one you still can't give more until the total drops to four or less trust feedbacks.

Realistically speaking saying someone is a tosser only needs to be in one post, but I digress...


The length of the posts has also diminished as well, so those rambling ones left on my trust feedback page are mercifully a thing of past.

Didn't realise it was a thing to be honest, but I think a better solution would be to allow people to post more than 5 but it doest effect their weighting after that. If someone has done dozens or even hundreds of deals with somebody I think they should be logged but maybe not count towards their feedback score as it can be abused.

Although i rarely use feedback, why don't you can update/edit 5th feedback on every successful trades?

Although the new feedback system doesn’t have a feedback score like previous and the old feedback doesn’t have any direct affect, I still think old feedbacks should be kept. Deleting them isn’t a good idea in my opinion. Why don’t forum increase this limit? Feedback spam can never be limited without manual processing.
In the old system, users were encouraged to keep the old feedback.

- Older ratings count for more, so don't delete old ratings if you can avoid it.

I didn't notice it before today or did not encounter such as limit message. But to be honest I was wondered there should be something to prevent trust spamming. Because some spammers want to leave unlimited false feedback. I think a limit is fine (if there is any) to prevent such as feedback spam. Since you can update (delete & repost) feedback, so I can't see any problem if you have done a million trades with a guy, you can add it to the comment. For negative feedback, you can do the same as well.

I think feedback spamming could have been fought by allowing admins to delete nasty comments that don't belong on a user's profile. The way it is now, allows anyone to write anything and it will stay there. You can open anyone's profile and write "retarded degenerate" and it will stay there. Users should have the right to report such things and ask admins to remove it, no matter what controversy it might create. I have seen comments like "su**s di**" and crap like that, and there is no valid reason that should stay.

But if I traded with one person 10 times, I would like to be able to add 10 different feedback entries. My experience with the other party can be different each time, and I should be able to report on that in different intervals.

Giving feedback is important and I think if someone could delete it then probably it could be change to update and sepcify the number of trades being done with the user remaining 5 feedbacks per user.

In my opinion five feedback is enough per user so that it will not going to spam the feedback list of that user. So, we have to consider in chosing the best 5 feedbacks to the user we can make. I also agree to @suchmoon idea on creating a thread to acknowledge the users help or services he had make. I think this is how theymos had beem seeing with all the long list of the same feedback that has been given to some known good or bad users repeatedly.

This means that if I too were to give feedbacks in the future since I did not know about this too then I will only select the best five Feedbacks I coule give to the user. Thanks to the OP for sharing this information regarding feedback.

This has been done in the past in a selective case, before the changes were implemented. Most likely, the staff are going to maintain the attitude in the unofficial rules FAQ: "We don't have enough time to check every single piece of information and verify the validity of the sources. Also, just like scams - too much room for bias and abuse."

One thing I was thinking of was that this still doesn't prevent spam attacks that much by way of alt accounts: simply post 5 per account per user, as the activity requirements are not too difficult.

Seems like a limit to stop the negative trust users from bombarding another users' feedback.  In my case, Vod has left me dozens of negative trust feedbacks, all full of lies.  As a result of this 5 rating limit, he has resorted to deleting old negative ratings and replacing them with new ones so that he can continue to try and have an overweighted view of his feedbacks.

I think this behavior should also be addressed, as it's a loophole to get around the intent of this limit.

I also think users who engage in this type of trust abuse (replacing old feedback with new fraudulent feedback for visibility) should not be allowed near the Default Trust Network.

If you agree that this type of behavior should not be allowed in the trust network, add ~Vod to your trust settings to exclude him and if you have any ideas how to combat this trolling behavior, please feel free to put them forth here.

First feedback is read faster and sooner than the second, and so on. Granted, this is not entirely equivalent to the similar act of repeatedly bumping one's thread for visibility: if trust feedback is inaccurate in any way, then users (presumably, hopefully, maybe) will take that into consideration and salt the comments liberally.

That's from a while back, before the trust pages (and updated rules) IIRC. The risked amounts are no longer on the feedback.
