OK, so not CT related at all (Sorry OG) but since I am pure EV at this point it's nice to know that in 2024 you can still siphon gas from your car to fill your bike if needed:



Side note, whoever at Harley-Davidson designed that bike is insane (LiveWire S2 DelMar) in sport mode at 45 MPH to 50 MPH I cracked the throttle open to test passing ability and instead of just going faster it pulled the front wheel straight off the ground.

I don't know, but all I can see about this truck is the fact that it is overrated and over-hyped. Very soon and in the future a better vehicle will be made that will do better, for now, enjoy the new thing that will still become an old fashion and model. we don't stop developing, so whoever buys the first version bus the old version of whatever it may be.

Story time. In the late 90s I had an Apple computer. My friends had the usual Dell or whatever. I would tell them how Apple had advantages controlling both hardware and software that would pay dividends down the line and suggested we took our profits from building PCs and selling them in the paper to invest in Apple. They didn’t like that idea and we went our separate ways. A few years later Apple was the most valuable company in the world. Then they released the iPhone. I bought it day 1 and told people it would revolutionize cell phones. I was told they were dumb, had bad battery life, the screen would crack, the phone was too thin and would bend, I would hate not having real buttons, etc. Now everyone has an iPhone…

I got into real estate and tried to get my friends to buy homes because it was a far better deal than renting at the time (2003). A couple years later, housing boom…

Fast forward a couple more years and I discovered Bitcoin. I told my friends and family they should be mining it, accepting it, stacking it… It was too new at the time and had issues no doubt. 10 years later it was the most successful investment in human history.

More recently I’ve gotten into being self sufficient and having a home that can power itself with alternative energy. This has ultimately led me to Tesla to completely remove myself from needing oil. I’ll let you guess what will happen over the next 10 years with energy…

So when people hate on me for jumping into electric vehicles with the manufacturing revolution that is the Cybertruck, I feel like that Simpsons episode where the character says, “don’t make me tap the sign.” I’ve been here before at the cutting edge of something that will change everything many times. I suspect this is just another iPhone. Tell me how much I’ll miss those physical buttons if you want or that a better phone is coming, but I don’t regret buying the first one.

Purchases like yours tend to be overly expensive for what they offer. Yes, you may have a piece of history, but those only wanting a car may want to wait a few more years until the technology matures, becoming less expensive and also more powerful (imho electric cars desperately need a better technology for their batteries).

Maybe a loss of meaning in lingo there. I don’t feel like people hate me. Hating on someone is being critical of something that you probably shouldn’t be. I don’t think anyone should “hate” someone they don’t know and nobody on this forum knows me. 

I get your point though and I’m not denying it (see my last post on the previous page of this thread). As long as you know what you're doing... (which, knowing how old bitcoiner you are, it's no surprise for me), I can't argue. And others also shouldn't.

Battery Tech is moving quickly and in a bunch of different ways to see which one really wins.

There are EVs out there now that get over 400 miles of range. But they are bouncing over the $70000 price.
BUT, to a large extent it's *not* because of the battery tech, but all the other crap in the car.
Do you really need the cup holders in the back seat to have heating & cooling. Yeah it's neat, but there is a cost. Both $ cost and added weight which reduces range.

Even my car, there is so much 'tech for the sake of tech' in it that they really could have made a much cheaper car with the same 300 mile range. Probably more range after you take out the extra few hundred lbs (100+kg for you metric people) of crap.

Someone on the Cybertruck forums with a later reservation number who configured their truck 10 days after mine and with the same configuration has received their VIN number. I think that means it is just location holding me back at this point. With any luck I’ll have a VIN email waiting for me in the next couple weeks.

There’s a company out there selling cut out black ppf shaped to look like a back window for the Cybertruck to try and make the overall appearance more streamlined. Personally I would never put a sticker of a fake window on my car, but I can see why some people might think this is cool. For me though, hard pass. Still, I thought it was interesting. The aftermarket for these trucks is going to get wild.

It looks like influencers are getting the newly redesigned hubcaps already. They’re basically the same only the extending parts no longer extend around the side of the tire. You can see a small gap in the rubber where the original design was meant to lay.

I know I posted this news nearly 2 months ago, but today it’s making a splash that the newly designed hubcaps are being included with new Cybertruck shipments.  Here’s a better image showing the comparison between the old and newly redesigned models. This was one of the recalls mainstream news was ranting about.

Tesla sent out an email a couple minutes ago stating that their reward to accelerate the Cybertruck delivery was once again available in the rewards shop. I got the email and clicked the link within 2 minutes of it being sent to discover the reward is already sold out. I guess it is safe to say there are still folks in a hurry to get their trucks.

As a side note, I’m being told that newly produced Cybertrucks are using new engines that reduce vibration, noise, and are more efficient. It is also rumored that a new dry cathode battery manufacturing process will be used for Cybertruck batteries by the end of the year. This will enable lower prices and faster manufacturing.

The dry process for cathode and anode is mostly for cost savings and then a bit for faster production times.
The batteries should perform a bit better when charging at lower temps and have a few more cycles before losing capacity.

Largest issue IMO is the fact that there are a couple of other processes that are ramping up a lot more quickly then anticipated.
Samsung delivered sold state batteries to EV manufactures for testing early this year and should have production up and running by the end of this year.
Going to be for more expensive higher end vehicles to start but as always that should drop quickly.

Probably does not matter much in the long run, battery tech is moving so fast that you will never be 1st for long.

Late 2024 Tesla is ahead with it's dry 4680, mid 2025 Samsung and others are ahead with sold state, early 2026 Dave & OgNasty are ahead with their sodium batteries after that someone will come up with a revolutionary ground coffee battery or something else. It's just what it is.

Saw a CT up close the other day at a charger, it's a fingerprint magnet and if you lean up against it in shorts it's shows where your legs touched it.

Anyway, neat but with 1 big flaw IMO, it is designed for the Tesla / NACS plug. Going from the J1772 AC to a NACS is fine. BUT going from a CCS (DC Fast) charger to NACS the charging port cover does not open enough to let you plug in an adapter.

Had to let the guy charge up off of my car using AC so he could make it to the next supercharger. It's kind of funny, this was his 3rd Tesla so he just took the adapter out of one car and threw it in back of the CT so he could charge anywhere and didn't think about it. Oops.

Seriously, until more places start installing NACS I see this as an issue.

There are FAR FAR FAR more NACS supercharges out there then CCS ones. BUT they are in larger groups. Using where I live as example there are 3 super charger stations (4 if you go a bit over 5 miles)  that have a total of 24 or 30 stalls. After that nothing till the 10+ miles point. There are 7 or 8 CCS fast chargers BUT they only have a total of about a dozen plugs. HOWEVER, and this is the big HOWEVER, they are spread out all over the place so when you do an oops and don't have enough range it's not a big deal to make it to one. Going to the 10 mile point where you get more NACS I can't count the number of CCS DCFC stations since there are so many but they are still all just 1 or 2 per location but there are a lot of them. I don't and most other EV drivers don't (including Tesla) think about it since there is always a DCFC somewhere. Might be expensive, might be slow, but it's there. Not being able to do that in a CT I see messing up people who are used to it.

1st time EV owners will not think about it, but to someone who is used to just stopping off for a quick dozen KWh of power and find their adapter does not fit in their car are in for a wait.

Oh and OG if it does not come with one get a portable AC charger and ALWAYS carry it with you. The shoe leather you save may be your own. Does not matter the brand or the make or the model. Shit happens and you can always find a 110V outlet to get you the 3 miles per hour of range.

The Foundation Series Cybertrucks come with mobile chargers. I seriously doubt that it’ll be an issue for me. I don’t have to commute for work and don’t travel much. Outside of a road trip I seriously doubt I’ll ever use a supercharger and will probably rarely need to charge it. Most of the places I go are near my house, I let friends drive when I go out, and I get a lot of food delivered.

Elon said that FSD will start rolling out to certain Cybertruck owners for testing in a couple weeks. I’m excited to see how great HW4 is going to be.

I got my garage all wired up for a Tesla wall charger today. Perhaps a bit premature but I figured it needs to be done and today was a good day for it. I researched and went with a Hubbell plug and a 60 amp 240v circuit which will be enough for the wall charger to run at a max 48 amps (they say to run it at 40 amps if on a 50 amp circuit). I also got an insurance quote of $184/month, which isn’t terrible but an increase of about $110/month from my previous vehicle.

I guess it wasn't premature.  I've received a VIN from Tesla and have sent them my insurance information.  Nothing left to do now but schedule the delivery and make payment...  We'll see what the final number is.  As of right now, it would cost around 2.26 BTC.  A good example of falling prices when things are denominated in Bitcoin.  When I placed the order for the AWD truck in 2020 it was expected to cost $56,990 which was 6.59 BTC.  Now the CyberBeast costs $130,000 (with sales tax) which is 2.26 BTC.  A fine example of why you should save in BTC instead of USD.

It is done. Bitcoin sold at $59,666.
Final cost $130,756.55 (plus $1,400 for my trade-in).

I thought I’d share this image from my Tesla app. It is showing the Cybertruck & Powerwall being charged by my solar array while my house operates normally (even running a solo Bitcoin miner). All done off the grid. I’m really impressed with all the options available to control various charging methods. For now I have decided to charge the Cybertruck only with excess solar energy instead of putting it back into the grid.
