Dear BITOINTALKERS!

i appreciated the active community .. it is really helpful.

Just lately i have installed an Electrum wallet on my new computer.

Now how can i transfer the Coins from my old wallet?

I dont to have a new wallet with a new seed phrase and then transfer them.

I would prefer to transfer the files from the old wallet to the new one (seed and coins).

How can i safely do that in a imple way?

Many thanks for your help!

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

First of all, it will be good to also have your seed phrase with you as a backup because wallet files can get corrupted, the seed phrase is better be offline rather than online, for safety.

If you have your wallet file on your computer device already, and also having electrum wallet.

  • Click on the electrum wallet
  • Click on the file
  • Click on Open
  • Click on your wallet file name (the wallet file name below is 'Wallet Backup')
  • If you have a password, you will be required to enter the password

Sweeping/transferring the coins from the old wallet to a freshly created wallet with a new seed phrase which you have safely backed up is actually a much safer option than just importing your wallet from an old computer to the new one.

You never know who will end up using your old computer and land on your wallet files by using data recovery tools.

How can i safely do that in a imple way?
Go to the old computer's Electrum data directory (location info) and open "wallets" folder.
Copy your wallet file(s) in there, if you didn't changed the name, it would be "default_wallet" for the first wallet and "wallet_1" for the next.
Find a way to transfer them to the new computer, eg. through a USB flash drive.

Now go to your new computer and open the same electrum directory, if you don't have Electrum yet, launch in once and the directory should be created.
Paste the wallet files in the new computer's electrum data directory wallets folder rename the existing wallets first if their names matched.
Lastly, launch Electrum and use the menu "File->Open" and open the copied wallet files from the old computer.

(you can paste them anywhere and browse to the directory in 'open' menu but it's cleaner to paste them in the default location)

I dont to have a new wallet with a new seed phrase and then transfer them.
I think you should know that your Bitcoins are not in your wallet. All that the wallet does is manage the private keys that are generated from the wallet seed.
These seeds are located in the wallet file and are encrypted with the password. If someone can access the private keys, seeds, wallet file (+ password to decrypt it,) then he will be able to send those coins.

If you think your old computer is not safe, search for the wallet file[1], move it to the new wallet and decrypt it using the password (do not share it)

If you wallet file use an easy password it is better to edit it or delete it.
