A guys' gotta wonder how Thermos 'the conspiritard' feels about some gang of propagandists organizing a merit point circle-jerk to leverage his work and ideas.

My guess would be that he finds it an interesting technical challenge as he develops some workable means of developing a useful platform in a world of dedicated, and often enough state funded, 'social media hackers'.

This years' April Fool's Day prank may have been in bad taste, but as theymos pointed out in his thread on the subject:

I do recall a couple of years ago the prank was the word Bitcoin which was inverted, but otherwise was an unremarkable year.

Another year (??last year??) was a KYC prank with very dubious questions.

I didn't find this joke funny either as I have friends whose family members contacted/died from this disease.

Apparently most people on this thread find humor in replicating a disease infection online, with decorated text. While that text was also annoying I don't think that's what pissed off some people, it was that they were joking about virus. And when you're a part of the situation then things like this really punch you hard in the stomach.

These people are getting a little twitchy so-to-speak.  It's understandable how they could lash out at a harmless and instructive April fools day prank and get ultra-paranoid and weird about it.

This was not an instructive april fools prank. If you read theymos' thread about this it was just a few probabilities that's all. Please step in the victims' shoes first before accusing them of being "ultra-paranoid and weird about it".

Read a bit through this , and I'd like to ask the people that got offended by this whole 1st of april forum virus situation.

How did it exactly offend you ? I understood the part about people close to you being infected with Covid , but I want to know how was this forum virus offensive to you ? Your family etc .

This forum infectation theymos created had more of an constructive impact intro providing a simulation of how fast the virus is actually spreading ,
I remember the text in the news part had something like "  Practice social distancing " , which was a very good advice , and for people who think ,  " nah I can't get infected , corona ain't real etc " maybe this simulation provided some insight as to how easily this can spread .



So I ask again ? Where was the distasteful joke in all of this ??  How did it make fun of the global covid crisis we're going through ?  How did it hurt , make fun , disrespect your ill  wife , cousins etc.

While it's true I found the prank slightly distasteful, I was then interested to read the methodology employed in "spreading" the fake disease.  As theymos said it could be used as a study of interactions of totally random people in a completely safe environment.

Secondly, three of my four grandparents died of cancer and the fourth lost a leg to it.  My mom is fighting it right now.  I'm not whining and crying because someone makes a joke about cancer, and certainly not because I perceive it.  As a matter of fact I am very thankful to anyone who puts effort into trying to figure out what is going on with it and bring attention to the problem because I don't trust the medical/industrial complex to do anything but make it worse cancer being an incredible cash-cow for them.

I am at home, I can't really go out because it was suggested to stay at home, I can't visit my parents because they are old, I am also not happy with thought "what happens to my kids if me and my wife catch it and it complicates, who the fuck will take care of them" and honestly I don't see this April fools prank as something bad.

I am not going to argue with anyone here and what someone finds funny or not.
