Was crawling through an old Blockchain.info wallet when I found the following transaction, judging by the date and the price I had paid, it's a similar if not the exact transaction in an effort to purchase a migrated Minecraft account, quite a few years ago.

It was approximately $5 back then, well, the equivalent amount of BTC would be worth over $1.000 now. That probably turned out to one of the most expensive Minecraft accounts ever bought. Thinking back, I wish I had paid via credit card from the official website.

Anyone had any similar experience?

Yup. I've got similar experience not just ones nor twice but many. As much as I can, I'm no longer looking at my old purchases because when I've bought or sold bitcoin in the past, that's it and there's no looking back. What's important is that I've used my bitcoins back then to those purchases that I've ever needed. That's why we're holding it today, we don't want to sell it if we know that the value of it will become higher anytime soon.

I have bought lots of game credits not directly an account but in-game funds wayback into those early years which i do still have the history of those
purchases which it do really put up me on the state of regret on why i havent just saved up those btc and able to save up those coins for the future
and i might have some serious amount of money as of this moment if i do able to do so.

For sure lots of people do have the same experience which we didnt expect for bitcoins price to go this high.So its expected that value would really
much more different.

Well, almost everyone here does, especially to those users who used to buy using bitcoin way back 2014 or so which bitcoin value is just hundred $ and comparing now. And why regret? its a great experience actually, spending/buying stuffs with the use of magic money on the old days.

You're not alone here - I've paid BTC on stupid stuff back in 2015 when everyone said Bitcoin is dying. I guess a lot of people spent their coins back then, since FUD was on an all-time high..

I think one of my transactions was worth $60 when Bitcoin was somewhere around $170-200, so best case is.. I paid $18k for it

That must have hurt seeing that after a few years. However, I didn't see Bitcoin as an investment or an asset back then, I was quite young too, couldn't have guessed to be honest. Most BTC I had back then was acquired by faucets, it didn't feel like I was spending anything back then. Who would have guessed that these faucets were paying gold in the long run.

I have transactions higher than that and it just hurt where that bitcoin go  Sad The earlier you are in bitcoin the higher the bitcoin probably you waste because you don't really know that that bitcoin is going to reach 60k$ at this moment.

I mostly use my bitcoin back in the day because I just need the money and sometimes it's a little convenient to use bitcoin especially in online transactions, that number in the past year was just different so .3 something in the past year has a different value compared to the value these days and it just happened we made a big mistake.

None of you beats the pizza guy.

That's true!

OMG! Maybe we are all going through the same thing but what can we do? If we convert bitcoin or any crypto to Fiat it is the same. Because we spend what we need at that moment is what we also experience when we live in a country with inflation. It is the same effect but in reverse we take the opportunity to buy any asset and after several months we notice that we buy an asset cheaper than at present.

everyone will experience it, never mind, don't bring up the past, where regrets will never disappear, let's collect savings to get better profits from bitcoin.
because I also experienced it, where I did traskasi in 2017, made payments that I thought were useless at the moment, but who knows what made me do that at that time

Lol
You either have to count with USD value only or BTC only. The way you are compare this, or the way people bring the pizza thing, isn’t certainly something realistic. You have paid $5 only, no matter you have paid through BTC, USD, ETH, GOLD, DIAMOND. You have paid $5 only.
Nevertheless, I would prefer this post in economy board, you would get some interesting discussion from the expert.

Lol, Forget that wish mate. I've learnt to not regret in such cases. That transaction supported Bitcoin to its present level. I mean; the more transaction that occurred, the more Bitcoin's potential was realized. IMO, Feel Proud.

Yes, everyone here experienced that and even the signature campaign before that run by yahoo has a good payments rate, just because before there's no dollar base.  I even once checked my Blockchain wallet before, how I wish that the fund was still there and can able to withdraw with the current value.  But unfortunately, we already spent it and there's no way to back our wallet.

None of you beats the pizza guy.
Yeah, 10,000 Bitcoin for two Pizza.  That's Laszlo Hanyecz.
That had an incredible value as of now and you can even buy how many Tesla on that amount.

Even those Bitcoin donator members in the forum before, do you think they regret it now?  Cheesy

That pizza store must be quite rich supposing they have even kept 1% of the BTC he had used.

I've also tracked down a few older signature campaign payments, the amount in BTC was significantly higher, in dollar value it could be the same thing, who would have guessed. I remember being in a quite low paying campaign (in terms of dollars of course) quite a few years ago, nowadays,  It's best to not look it up. I'd rather not know.

Probably no. Without that pizza event, maybe Bitcoin would have never advanced to where it currently is. Laszlo sacrificed his coins for the entire community. Nobody here today would do that again for the benefit of everyone else, in a time where Bitcoin only keeps rising in value, signature campaigns exist and so many people are greedy or weak-handed. Back when Laszlo did it, he did it for the good of the community - not to his own.

Those who donated on the forum likely do not regret either. It was back when Bitcoin was close to nothing compared to today, and nobody could even imagine back then that Bitcoin would ever get to this price tag.

You wise you had paid by credit card, but I do not think that you would hold your $5 bitcoin for more than 5 years for a 2000% profit. I can guarantee that. IF you had seen bitcoin as an prospective investment, you would have spent more than $1000 to invest. In this case, regretting does not make any sense

Anyone had any similar experience?

I've bought a laptop for ~0.6BTC. but what can I say? I wish I had fiat to pay for it, but money is meant to go in and out.
In the meantime I earned more bitcoin, I'm holding some, I'm spending some and life goes on. I try not to think much on how much I could have now if I would have been holding all the coins.

Thinking back, I wish I had paid via credit card from the official website.

Look at it from a different angle and not just values then and today - because BTC is primarily a currency that should be used as much as possible, and part of the success we have today is precisely because all of us did not just hold. If everyone thought that way, then even today we should not use BTC for payments because in x years it will be worth 5-10 times more than today.

I’ve also bought some things directly for BTC over the years, but I’m not in the least bit sorry that something I paid $100 a few years ago at today’s BTC price would be worth 10 to 20 times more. Money is to be spent, we will not live forever - and the world has become a dangerous place where every day can be our last.

Almost everyone who was in crypto in its early years must have experienced the same thing, but that's not a problem, right? because no one can predict the future correctly, no one thought that the BTC that was used long ago to buy something, its value in USD will be very high nowdays.

Thinking back, I wish I had paid via credit card from the official website.

Thank you! One of the greatest and wisest reply I've seen so far. I think that you are seeing it from the correct perspective, money is ought to be spent, we can't keep holding any currency, Bitcoin or not, just because one day there's a chance it will rise 10x or 20x times its value.

because no one can predict the future correctly, no one thought that the BTC that was used long ago to buy something, its value in USD will be very high nowdays.
Would literally be like we'd experience Bitcoin becoming worth $3,600,000,000,000 per coin if we were to compare the price 1 BTC had at the time vs today. That's how unpredictable this was. Who the hell would ever think this is possible?

You wise you had paid by credit card, but I do not think that you would hold your $5 bitcoin for more than 5 years for a 2000% profit. I can guarantee that. IF you had seen bitcoin as an prospective investment, you would have spent more than $1000 to invest. In this case, regretting does not make any sense
I guess not because, in that year, $5 in bitcoin will not mean something. But if you still hold that in bitcoin until now, that 0.017 will be more than $1,000. I have that experience buying something with bitcoin, but not many bitcoin amounts I use because I want to hold my bitcoin after using it to buy a product. We never know how much money that we can get from bitcoin because bitcoin prices can increase more than today.

Thank you! One of the greatest and wisest reply I've seen so far. I think that you are seeing it from the correct perspective, money is ought to be spent, we can't keep holding any currency, Bitcoin or not, just because one day there's a chance it will rise 10x or 20x times its value.

You're welcome, although you can be sure that many don't share my opinion and consider paying with crypto as something that doesn't make sense because it will be worth a lot more in the future, or because the fees have become too high (which is true if someone doesn't know how to set correct fee). For most people, investing in crypto is just an instrument by which they plan to make a profit - I believe that more than 50% of people have never experienced anything more than buying/selling crypto through an exchange.

Not to get me wrong, I’m also a long-term holder - but I combine that with regular crypto payments that give me some financial freedom from the existing financial system - which always feels good.

Back then, I didn't think Bitcoin as an investment, nor a way to make money to be honest. I used it to make transactions on a weekly basis, most BTC I currently have was acquired back in 2014-2015 and was lucky enough to not spend all of it. Basically, I still have a small amount because it was left aside for no apparent reason. Some BTC I later acquired from signature campaigns was sold in the bull market of 2017 and some was left intact.

When you think about the past where bitcoins value is very cheap, don't feel regret instead just smile because you experience to spend bitcoin back then without any hesitation. Now, bitcoin is like gold, if you have it, you don't want to lose it instead hold it tight and wait for the next ATH.

it doesn't matter how much bitcoin you paid back then, the important thing is how much bitcoin you had then and how much bitcoin is left in your wallet today.
i have spent and even sold bitcoin in the past but i always keep more than i spend so that when price goes up i still have a good balance in my wallet and never regret not having the spent coins ever.
also we should all remember that bitcoin only grows as a currency not something that people only hold.

There is a FOMO brewing...

Not really familiar with Minecraft but presuming someone actually thought the aged account was worth $5 then, they might have built the account even further by now, maybe it's actually worth a lot more than $1000 the BTC held would have been? I never got into this psyche of buying and selling gaming accounts but I do recall having been offered some money for an old Utopia account (if anyone actually played this, quote this and share memories haha).

Still, good find. Not a pizza find but a good one nevertheless.

I bought a laptop for about ~2 BTC several years ago... A top of the line one, but yeah... It would have been enough to buy a small house in a lot of country's right now.

Stop comparing the price back years ago to the price here today .

because if that will happen today who the hell will buy for that 1k amount?

I bought a laptop for about ~2 BTC several years ago... A top of the line one, but yeah... It would have been enough to buy a small house in a lot of country's right now.
Actually if you will use to buy a House in my country ? that would be a very luxurious House amounting 120k Usd.

Yes, this is probably the most expensive Minecraft account I've ever seen. And no, I haven't come across anything like it.
Pretty hardcore if someone were to buy a game account for a thousand dollar, maybe Oldschool Runescape players might top this number since I have heard that a billion of gold in-game is worth around a 500 USD so probably, I have seen an account worth more than that.

I think a lot of people maybe experience that things. Like my friend who sell 1 bitcoin and still not enough yet to buy a motorcycle. In past maybe only a few people who know bitcoin will get really high like price nowadays. And who already sold their coins i think don't need to regret much because that only make us suffer.

Never experienced something like that before, but well isn't that normal? that time the bitcoin is worth nothing. 2015, 6 years ago. I bet at that time, you won't even think twice for spending your bitcoin, since it doesn't worth that much anyway, no one know that it will become like this, so i guess no need to cry over the spilled milk lol. It just seems expensive since bitcoin price has went up this much already, but of course that time, it's cheap, only $5. That's why take it as a lesson and maybe we should consider more before spending out bitcoin, no one knows how big bitcoin will be.

That must have hurt seeing that, but let's get this straight, if we keep the attitude of not spending any BTC (Or any other crypto) in hopes or in an effort of preserving its value, we'll never convert it to fiat/cash out. Thus, we'll keep holding coins that we'll never actually use for any in real life purpose.

since many years that i use bitcoin to buy things, i am not a fan of just using bitcoin to make Hodl and i think everyone should stop having this thought that bitcoin is only used to make hodl and make big profits. when we look at bitcoin as something that allows us to have high returns we don't allow ourselves to spend bitcoin and that makes bitcoin just something that will remain in the wallets for years and will remain in the exchanges for people to trade instead of using to make purchases. years pass but the number of countries that are using bitcoin as a means of payment does not increase much

Almost everyone that uses BTC as a mode of payment in the early years has the same experience.  I was using BTC for the payment of my electricity bills since 2015, everyday needs, and other stuff through a payment gateway.  So I think there is nothing special about this one or worth regretting since we spend our BTC on what its value that time.  And if ever BTC plummet to worthlessness today, I am sure you will be jumping with joy thinking that you bought that account for almost fee.

I bought a laptop for about ~2 BTC several years ago... A top of the line one, but yeah... It would have been enough to buy a small house in a lot of country's right now.
But there are things in life which cant really be avoided for you to spend up your coins and whom had thought that bitcoin would reach up this high? Yes, its really a regretful thing on seeing

these current numbers which you might able to buy up lots of things on the current value of bitcoin compared in the past.Well, we dont have any choice but to move on because

it will just stress you out on minding too much that you shouldnt have spend those coins and you might be buying more expensive things at the moment.

If you look back and see then you will think that you made a silly decision to pay using bitcoin and even i have many transactions made during that period to purchase certain services and the amount i gave in terms of bitcoin was huge considering the price was not that high and if you start having regrets then you need to  consider thinking about the amount of bitcoin you lost gambling  Grin.

Early adopters of bitcoin that lost their hard drives are feeling the same way too. Imagine throwing away a dirt cheap, almost novelty item 5-6 years ago, only to find out that it's worth at least someone's entire house mortgage years later? Even I didn't anticipate something like this happening. I just pass things off like this as a stroke of luck I wasn't able to get, and continue investing in it because with bitcoin, you're never late to the party. So long as you're investing, or have invested and held your bitcoins, then you should be good.

Just like how I browse my old screenshots, too. With those stuffs having bought online with bitcoin, it hit me realized two things:

-Bitcoin is no doubt progressing because it has more value than before. -And I can not purchase that much now, I prefer holding and keeping it and regret to use it by just buying some online stuffs for playing. Its kinda regretable now.

Yeah, I've had a similar experience, not with game purchases, but with many other things. When I only started using Bitcoin all my transactions were made through Blockchain wallets and a couple of months ago I was reviewing my transactions and scrolled way down and I was quite surprised when I saw many of them worth more than $10k. But then I figured out how this happened and felt somewhat sad because of all those expenditures and kind of wished I kept that money Cheesy

0.017BTC today is too big for a Minecraft account but it wasn't during that time, the purchase was done back Nov 2015. I'm sure the user who got the funds have already spent the BTC at such a rate as well.

Every time I think of the BTC I've got and spent over the years, it's just making me regret spending. If they were just kept for good in my wallet, I might not be worrying about what could happen when the entire fiat system will crash.

Anyone who has used Bitcoin as a currency for a longer period than a year will have a similar story to share it is just one of the drawbacks to using a volatile currency like Bitcoin to buy every day things. This is why we see so many people talk about Bitcoin not being a currency but something that you should invest into and not use for daily transactions since the potential of the market surging is too great to make it worthwhile.

My advice would be to purchase items like these in fiat currencies and use Bitcoin for investment until it becomes more stable and predictable like fiat currencies which should be achieved once we get closer to the total Bitcoin mined.

You will just hurt yourself if you look into the past when you purchased some goods or services using bitcoin. I had a friend before who is good at arts stuff. I needed a project to submit but I don't have the cash to pay. Since he knows bitcoin also I asked him if he wants to be paid in bitcoin because converting bitcoin in our country at that time is difficult. He agreed to be paid 0.01btc which is only 100$ that time, now the current value of it is more than $600. I don't know if he still didn't spend it but during those times, spending bitcoin is really unavoidable because that is our only source of income.

Yeah, not planning to go down that path, I've seen enough. I also had a friend who had paid for a mobile phone in BTC, and it wasn't even for himself, he had purchased it for a friend of his. It must have sucked, since I knew him, I know for a fact that chances are that he wouldn't have spent it otherwise. Despite that, as others have also mentioned, some had lost BTC on old HDDs that were either thrown away or became corrupt, that's even worse.

let's move on ...
the price of btc at that time and now is very different. after all, why be sorry? do you wish you could know the future so prefer to hold your btc at that time? oh come on ... it should be a valuable experience because you have done transactions with so much btc when compared to the current price.
take the positive side, seeing the past as a lesson is good, but don't regret it ... there are so many things we can still do, so let's try to do better.

There are so many things I paid through BTC back then so I don't really want to look back to those transactions since I would just regret it,
I bought some mobile load through BTC and other small transactions back in 2017 and 2018 and it would be a huge amount now.

Well, at that time the price of bitcoin was low so no sense wallowing in hindsight because if we knew that the prices will go up this high and we tell them just to pay less, I don't think that no one is going to believe you, it is a matter of perspective and time. It's just that in our current perspective, it looks unreasonable to pay that amount but if it was back then, I don't think that we are going to have any problem.

bitcoin when it was started was nothing and not popular, many holders of bitcoin in the past regretting what they have done in the past. as youve said back then it was %5 and bitcoin price slowly pumping up and now $1,000. if you paid cash maybe your bitcoin now is holding and pumping.

Well at the least you got a laptop, it was the prices back then and not the prices now that was the cause so there is no need to feel regret. If we only didn't need things to survive daily and we are the same as other rich people, you could still have that 2 BTC. In my country, I am pretty sure that I can buy around 2 or 3 condominium units with that much bitcoin.

What a good thing to say to move on, this is how it should be for us now. We should not talk about the past because it's a mere contribution to what has happened today. Everything about our purchase and trading history transaction is only for this day to be counted. I once sold an altcoin which was $200 to bought some important things and 3 months later it became $3000 this is not a joke but I don't feel any regret about it because what I bought was more than that amount can give me. Things like that more often happened to us in this industry, so we should know how to move on when such events strike us again.

Definitely, there's no other way to deal with this, moving on is essential, after all, we all learn from similar past experiences/incidents. I'm sure I will find plenty of transactions if I look even further, both incoming and outgoing transactions. Daydreaming about holding my BTC from the past is a wonderful thought though, makes you wonder, "What if?".

It's over though, now we should be looking forward.

I dont think any of us can beat the Pizza guy but still, I started earning through signature campaigns and used to get 0.025BTC/weekly which was approximately 100$ and 2 weeks payment was equal to my monthly home EMI. So what did I do.!!! Sold the BTC every month, paid the EMI and spent the other half for partying. I think I have earned more than half BTC in total and I spent money like water. And guess what, am still paying my EMI and I dont have spare BTC now.. Move on or Be angry on myself everyday...?

Was crawling through an old Blockchain.info wallet when I found the following transaction, judging by the date and the price I had paid, it's a similar if not the exact transaction in an effort to purchase a migrated Minecraft account, quite a few years ago.

It was approximately $5 back then, well, the equivalent amount of BTC would be worth over $1.000 now. That probably turned out to one of the most expensive Minecraft accounts ever bought. Thinking back, I wish I had paid via credit card from the official website.

Anyone had any similar experience?

I try not to look at the price dynamics after my transactions because I'm not ready to face how much it cost by today's standards Grin
I haven't bought goods/services with BTC, but I did lose some money on bets about a year ago. Back then it was around $20, but now it's $120 which is a pretty big sum. That being said, it's not even close to that jump from $5 to $1000 in your case. But I think that we shouldn't regret the decisions we've made when the price was different. I think I've heard that the guy who paid for the famous pizzas didn't regret doing that even when the price was around $20k per coin.

I also used to be in signature campaigns back in the summer of 2017, I was a full member back then, and was earning a decent amount of BTC for current standards. On a quick search I made, I found one of the campaigns I used to be, in a matter of 3 weeks I had made 0.0112 BTC, which is now equivalent to approximately $600. It sucks to see how much BTC was given back then. I also converted it to fiat every once in a while back then.

I doubt that money is still there somehow but regardless that amount might not be the pricest one there are more transactions that might caught your eye just search on web the most expensive buys on BITCOIN. Aside from your content it might be regretful for others if they have that kind of amount in their wallet in the past.

Comparison on the  value back then and today is frustrating so i would rather not to look for it again.

Had been buying minecraft account back days, and also My son is buying for Him so i can feel what you are saying here mate.

I used to make more than 0.125 BTC for months but couldnt keep myself selling it because of my financial conditions, I dont have much regrets about it but I just imagine what would it be if I had not sold them.!!

Also, I dont have regrets because I have made better decisions later in my life and invested smartly in coins which had some future. There are many friends of mine who sold when they felt like and regretting now.

I acknowledge that similar incidents are quite common and there are way worse scenarios than mine. Myself too, have found plenty of transactions I wished I never had done, but nothing can be done to change that. I'm grateful for any BTC that was left from the past and as a result, I've earned a decent amount of money.
