Hello

My name is Martos and I am writing to you because of a problem I have and to ask if your help is possible. In April 2013 I created a bitcoin wallet through bitcoin.org and I was depositing small amounts of satoshis that I was getting, at that time Bitcoin was not like it is now and it was a game for me.
A few months later I had a problem with the pc and my hard drive with all the information and the program that I used as a wallet got erased. It was not something very important to me and I forgot about it. Now I have had bitcoins again and I remembered that wallet, searching through my emails I have been able to rescue the wallet address and the site where I created it (bitcoing.org) 😊.
Not that he has a lot of money but it has already become a kind of personal challenge and treasure hunt. Is your help possible? Would you know how to tell me what kind of wallet could be made in bitcoin.org in 2013 and try to track my old wallet.

I don´t have the wallet password but I have the address of the wallet, the email that I was able to associate, I know I did it from bitcoin.org and hopefully the password could be one of the ones I have always used.

I know it is difficult but hopefully and some help I may be able to do it.

Thank you!!.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Sorry to dissapoint you but the most likely scenario is that your bitcoins, whatever the amount is, are lost. I can tell you one thing with 100 % certainty : bitcoin.org doesn't have any wallet service for you to use, they simply have suggestions of wallets that you could consider using. You can check them all here -> https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5

By mere guessing, could it be that you are saying that you've used "Bitcoin Wallet" program? -> https://bitcoin.org/en/wallets/mobile/android/bitcoinwallet/ . It doesn't make sense considering your story (you've installed it on your pc) since this is only for Android, but perhaps you can try to remember which wallet did you used by seeing the wallets that the website recommends?

If you only have an email and BTC address there is no way to recover them unless if you have a backup copy of the wallet.dat file or you might be talking about a different wallet, not the Bitcoin core wallet?

If it was an Android wallet or other wallet listed on Bitcoin.org maybe you can recover it with your email if you still have access to that email and it depends on what wallet you talking about.

I dont know, but i supposed, do you remember something about Coinbase Wallet?
If you have your email registered with bitcoin.org, why dont you e-mail them from your registered one in order to help you...if it is possible, I mean, if they really want.
Just saying! Do not trust what I said! I am just trying to help!

Thank you all very much for your response.
My only option is to try to test my email in the wallets via PC to see if I can try to log in and move forward, I hope that the one I will use at that time is still on the list. I have asked on Bitcoin.org and it has redirected me to this forum Smiley.
I know there is little chance of success but I will continue to do so and learn more about bitcoins and their wallets.
Actually the amount is not very important, about $ 300/350 but they serve for a whim.

Thinking about all this, how many lost wallets like mine will there be?, and that amount of bitcoins will be buried in the blockchain forever? Smiley Smiley

Again, thank you all very much and I will update the news I have on this subject.

Gracias!!!

Bitcoin.org is not a wallet service (maybe a LONG, LONG time ago they were). Perhaps you were redirected here since you were asking a question about recovering lost wallet files.

The address is just a public reference to where your bitcoins are located in the blockchain; it is not the password or private key or any other secret information that lets you spend them.

It will help if you post the contents of the email with sensitive information such as addresses blacked out.

I don't remember bitcoin.org being a web wallet... I've also looked into web archive and I don't see them advertise web wallets.
I've found this kind of start page: https://web.archive.org/web/20130705122359/http://bitcoin.org/en
I've found clients advertised: https://web.archive.org/web/20130705104306/http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
I've found like to WeUseCoins, but it doesn't seem to be web wallet: https://web.archive.org/web/20130116025906/http://www.weusecoins.com/getting-started.php

Now, in the choose your coin area, I see the logo for:
* Blockchain.info (now .com)
* Bips.me
* Coinbase

I suggest you take a look onto those pages maybe you remember a logo, if you indeed used a web wallet.

Can you please confirm if you meant bitcoin.org (no "g")... or bitcoing.org (with the extra "g")...

I don't think bitcoin.org was ever an online wallet... How exactly did you come to the conclusion that this elusive wallet was created on this website? Can you provide a screenshot of the emails?

Where you perhaps actually referring to blockchain.info? That was one of the most popular web wallets

Hello,

Thank you very much for trying to help me.

Everything related to the wallet was through a 3d printing forum that we began to be interested in the bitcoin world. Seeing the emails we made the wallets from the website bitcoin.org (not bitcoin "g" .org). Not a bitcoin.org's own wallet but one that is linked from said website. What I have read is that it was a wallet for the PC and that when installing it the first time it took several days to synchronize well to be able to review the transfers that were made to us. And I am attaching an image of an error that was generated by a partner when not synchronizing. I don't know if this image and data can be of any use.

I have tried to log into blockchain.com and try to "remember password" and it does not recognize my emails.
Reviewing the post of NeuroticFish and looking at the link "https://web.archive.org/web/20130116025906/http://www.weusecoins.com/getting-started.php" that may be the program that I install.I am beginning to doubt that since it is a program installed on the PC, it would not be necessary to log in with an email and when losing the information on the hard drive, it would lose some vital .dat file in order to operate with that wallet.

From the above description and the image you attached, it looks lije you were using bitcoin core as a wallet. It's what bitcoin.org suggests using and, indeed, it takes long time to syncronize.

Bitcoin core save your private keys (and other data related to your addresses) on a .dat file (wallet.dat by default) and it's all you need to recover your wallet. It doesn't create accounts like what blickchain.com do.
Do you still have the hard disk on which you've installed bitcoin core?

Your assumption would be correct in the instance of Bitcoin Core. Bitcoin Core requires either a private key to be imported, or a valid wallet.dat file, and the corresponding password (if it was encrypted). Without any of these, you aren't going to get access to the wallet.

If you still have the hard drive that Bitcoin Core was installed on, there's a small chance that you could recover the files, even if they were deleted. Remember, if you haven't restored the hard drive, and simply uninstalled Bitcoin Core, the wallet.dat is still likely there in the folder. This will be located in the %APPDATA% folder if you were using Windows or ~/.bitcoin/ if on a Linux distribution.

Given the information provided so far... I'd say the chances of recovering the wallet are, unfortunately, pretty low.

Unless you still have the old harddrive (that got erased) and you're able to somehow recover the original wallet.dat from that hard drive using data recovery applications, then you're not going to be able to do anything.

The email address, the password, the bitcoin address etc are all useless without the private key... which is contained in the wallet.dat... which has been erased. Undecided

Hello!!.

I have some old hard drives in a drawer, I am going to check them in case I am lucky but the chances of recovering the wallet are less and less.
If the miracle could get back that wallet, I am going to buy lottery tickets because I would surely win a prize !!! Smiley Smiley

Thank you all very much and I will inform you of this impossible search.

Paco.
