Hello

A forum member (Newbie) sent me several bitcoin core wallets with different amounts in btc on skype.

but these wallets have passphrases and he did not send those passphrases

he didn't ask me for anything in return.

I don't know why he sent them to me, but since I don't have the wallet passphrases, I can't have them, and I doubt that this member of the forum has the wallet passphrases.

Investigating the btc adress, they are wallets that can be found on the internet that sell them or you can find them for free that are wallets that the owner lost the wallet passphrase.

etc

Why do you think I send them to me if they are practically unbreakable wallets?

Just wait for the next message, probably he will ask you for some money for this wallet.dat - Scam

And I checked one of the addresses, it was already reported here: https://www.bitcoinabuse.com/reports/1F654t1HxrZtg7uhcXyZeFvRsyB8HCnBXJ

So don't waste your time, If I'm in your shoes, I will blocked the member that message you.

Why do you think I send them to me if they are practically unbreakable wallets?
it's simple.

Because they want something from you via scam or via planting malware into your computer where they can later steal your credentials or Bitcoins

Why would a newbie send a random member an unsolicited message containing wallet.dat files with no passphrase?
The intention is obviously ill.

The same way some user sent me a private key of an Ethereum address and asked me to add it to my trust wallet and see magic. I smelled that something is not right, I created a new instance in Bluestacks, installed and imported that private key into trust wallet and saw that it has $30k worth of erc20 tokens. I asked my friend about it and he told me not to send any eth to that address as it will immediately move the eth to another address because that address had a bug. Do not trust anybody in case of sensitive data like private keys, mnemonic seeds, passphrases, etc.

Obviously it is a scam activity and I want to let you know that after some days he/she will send you a message again asking for some money and help that you might be able to give them and if that happens, you already know what is the main purpose of messaging you. To be honest, I am not seeing anyone messaging something that they don't know and asking or sending bitcoin core wallets without any reason.

Do not wait for his next response, If you recieve another message just go ahead and delete it. Do not try to access those wallet as their might be a hidden malware. If you already have then run a virus scan and be safe.

Nothing is free in this world, there is always a hidden agenda behind everything.

They are waiting for your next message to see your interest and if this happen then they are completely winning because this shows how greed you are to have interest from the wallets and Bitcoin that is not yours.

Just Quit , Stop your stupidity because this will never come to your end, and you are already a Full member rank account still being confused of this scamming attempt? Go on , move on.

It is a scam obviously, they try to make it look like they are doing it out of goodwill and that they won't be asking for anything but when you start to get curious, that's when they strike and do the next step of their plan.

hello sir, I don't know what you mean here, everyone must have their own password for more safety, I don't understand a free wallet or something, maybe it's just a trap of a hacker

It is best to ask that person for the exact reason, but he is probably trying to profit from the fact that someone may miraculously manage to crack the password and send him some tip as a sign of gratitude. But if it were possible to crack those passwords, it would already be done by professionals who deal with it - and as far as I know it is possible to forge such files that they seem to really contain private keys - and in fact contain nothing but false promises.

I agree that it sounds like a scam. But is it even possible to implant a malware inside a Bitcoin core wallet? I don't think that the owner of the wallet can do that. As far as I know, the owner can only store coins and transact them. Anything other than coins can't be stored inside a core wallet. In case he is sending the wallet software, then I would have been more suspicious. But as of now, that doesn't seems to be the case. It is just a bunch of wallet addresses.
