On question A) what do you think will happen if these same people go to space? They will carry and carry with them all possible problems. First of all, a change of paradigm and mentality is necessary. On topic B) this resembles the Matrix. Anyway, it's interesting to think about space and that there is a universe and not just the Earth.
Problem with your expectation about A) - a change in paradigm and mentality would require a new species, not the humans we all love - and sometimes hate... - so - dispersing the humans in to outer space might lead to the survival of the species, if they don't have to share the same space / planet anymore...
OTOH, if survival of the human race is really a longterm desirable goal? If not - transhumanism - transforming human identities in some AI system that will be autonomous and can operate independently might be the better option. OR a fully autonomous AI system without the backpack of human feelings, ideologies and errors might be a longterm alternative, but definitely not human...
