Everyone can claim be everything on the internet so statements like that have zero value. There is no official and acknowledged world wide ranking of network engineers which means there can't be a official no.1.  I mean if he invented bitTorrent than he probably has some coding skills but i am pretty sure that does not make him the best network protocol engineer alive  . I usually avoid projects that are throwing around with such bold and unprovable statements because i don't want to see something like that from a serious project. Chia is a serious project though and already listed on big exchanges like huobi and okex so it's definitely an interesting project.

I can also claim it as anything if I want, because it doesn't have to have legality if it is only given to the public to attract the interest of many investors. and what Bram Cohen has to say will not impress us. Proof of Work or PoW(always sounds like the more proper and general name for lots of consensus mechanisms I have heard of or seen in Crypto space. "You use your equipments/skills to participate in network consensus and get rewarded... You prove you did a good job(evidence based) and you get rewarded/rated" (Proof of Work). Now you are required to prove you own certain amount of things to take part in consensus yet it's called a consensus mechanism.
Will hopefully read about this project to see whether it really worth the publicity it gets.

Nah, everyone is obviously trying to hype their projects so regardless if this is true or not, it won't have any bearing as least for me. I always look at the project first and see it's potential and what it can bring to the already congested crypto market. Someone can developed anything and that person can be no name or already established his/her reputation. The big question is, how is the project? any real life usage that anyone can pick up and used it? Bill Gates developed MicroSoft, but is he the best software engineer alive?

If you don't hype your platform or project, no one will do so for you, that is to say, you need to say and do whatever it takes to create hype within your project. Looking at that whitepaper or post, the team knew exactly what they are doing and they knows that, once the information is channeled through the right path, it creates hype which in turn leads to price increase of their token.
Answering your question, of course it is not true as there are experts before him but owing to the significance of what is on ground, the needful was done. The Bittorrent he contributed to its growth, where is it now?. Not much is being heard about it.
Lastly, if you are investing in such projects, although it might look good at what the team offers but yet doing your due diligence and investing with what you can afford to lose is the best way to go about crypto investing.

I don’t see any credibility on that one and As I remember he has a bad reputation already and the highlight really made my day as well, that could be a life changing project but in reality, that’s too good for the offer. Developers will always hype their project and even create a battalion just to spread the words but that should not be your basis before investing, you must read every details and if you see that kind of statement, think again.

Was it self-proclaimed?  I think it is just a marketing strategy, unless that guy is truly acknowledged by the responsible institution and had given that title, those words are probably unfounded.  Anyway, this is created to hype their project. Even though their project sounds unique, it is not the first one that utilizes disk storage in the blockchain industry.
