Bug in “Most Time Online” stats?

I was checking the statistics center and I noticed this:

Is this some kind of forum bug? How can these users be 60⁺ years online?

Probably not. Some people use bots or auto-refresh tools etc so it will skew their actual logged in time considerably.

Regardless of why it's happening, it is very clearly a bug since it is presenting the wrong information.  We can choose to ignore the bug since it appears the source has been identified, but it is obviously not properly recording time logged in.  I don't think these stats matter, nor do I care if it's correct.  Call a spade a spade though.  This is most definitely a bug.  It appears it's been a known bug for a while, so it is either low priority and very far down the todo list, or nobody in a position to correct the bug cares.  Take your pick.

To all of the above, I can only add that three years ago the data was displayed correctly ... I don’t remember the details anymore, but the leaders of this list were definitely Lauda and Mitchell, and a few other old participants whose stay online did not exceed 1000 days .. In order to maintain the appearance of an all-present presence, Her Majesty was forced to be on this list, and Mitchell was a master of automation.

The top ranked user was hmblm1245 with 1635 days being online. Mitchell was ranked 9th with 590 days.

I am currently at 896 days, 19 hours and 5 minutes. About 40 to 50% of that came from my anti-spam bot, which has been moved to a separate account ages ago.

LoL, it is definitely a display error or an error in the website's database. If you check all these users, they are all Brand New, and their accounts are archived. Previously, a guy made a post to ask about this problem. With some information given, this error seems to appear after 2016. Anyway, I don't feel it's really important

I don't understand how Bots, scripts, or tools can bypass the forum's backend to tracking user's total logged-in time.

It's isn't something on the front-end that can be manipulated easily by something like inspect-elements and making the mamas proud of those who do it.

Sorry. The screenshot I posted didn't contain the forum time. I decided to replace the screenshot with a new one. But I had some problem with imgur when uploading the new screenshot. I deleted that post until the issue is resolved.

It's now 9:22 PM (GMT)  and my total time logged in is 185 days, 10 hours and 13 minutes.



Now I am online with my account in two different devices.
I will open pages with both devices continuously and will post my total time logged in again in 20 minutes.

it's now 9:42 PM (GMT) and my total time logged in is 185 days, 10 hours and 48 minutes

You don't need to understand very much, you can try itself by adding it on extension chrome or firefox (searching in google with keyword; auto refresh extension), just set time in minutes or seconds. and don't forget to click Always stay logged in: on bitcointalk account.

But, what for? there is no reward for mostly logged time. there is mostly cost also, User need also rent a VPS and If doesn't, PC should be online every day (electric cost).

Maybe it's not about rewards but longer login time can tell us a bit of information that users have more time in the forums than in the real world. But it's not impossible that one day someone will be willing to give a little gift to those who have a certain login time (real time not using tool like bot) to celebrate his birthday party like Ratimov did before.

A great and quick test, lol, my thinking is right. So, this is clearly not a display error, those accounts have actually been active for a long time with multiple devices at the same time 

Top 1 account registered in August 2018, it is almost 4 years till now. But in spec, it has been working for a total of more than 63 years, it means that this account has at least 16 active devices at the same time to be able to work with that much time. LOL, it's crazy! Should I think it was someone's test?

I know what you said above but look at the OP,

Users mentioned there are online for over 60+ Years!, That's more time than the forum has been around, can you explain to me why is that?
Staying logged in for 10 years using VPS or Extension for example you'll be credited with "Total time logged in: XXXX days, xx hours and xx minutes." But it shouldn't go over 10 years, and if it does then there's a bug in the backend.

You can run a script that causes a headless browser repeatedly access the forum while logged in. Often the purpose of this would be to scrape information from the forum for whatever reason. I am not sure how the forum handles multiple browser tabs when counting logged in time, but it is also possible that someone would run a script(s) that access the forum via multiple browser tabs.

IMO someone running a particular stats website might be accessing the forum more frequently than once per second on a long term basis and these are alts of this person to collect this data.
