I am not sure the coin will bring profit if we invest long term, it is better to choose another coin that already has potential and will certainly bring profit that is ethreum, BNB, and some other top coins, but this all depends on our own beliefs because not all of our predictions will bring the truth because we only see the development of a coin.

I agree bitcoin, ethereum, and BNB are the best currencies for long term investment even if other coins are lost from the market there is no chance of losing these coins and the risk is much less. Traders like it and it is profitable to keep it for a long time even if the price goes down.

I prefer following your suggestion to invest in bitcoin, ethereum and BNB besides the other coins because those coins will have more potential to increase back. Maybe he can invest in the other coins, but he does not have to use too big money because that will be risky if you buy the wrong coins.

But if he has the skills to trade, it will be better to trade bitcoin, ethereum or BNB because the movements of those coins are better than the other coins. So he can have a chance to make a profit daily or weekly.

This time, we need to wait for more as we see the coins bounce to the high price. It is too risky if we decide to buy the coin now but if we already bought the coin a few days or weeks ago, maybe we can set a target price to sell the coins because who knows, the coin can hit the next high price.
Investing in the other top 10-20 altcoins will be good if you know about selecting the coin but mostly, people are too lazy to analyze and depend on the other. So rather than getting risk choosing the wrong coin, he can stick to bitcoin, ethereum and bnb so the chance will be good than the other coins.

Cryptocurrency investment to profitability is not 100m dash,  it is a long marathon!  If you are suggesting Sol,  cake, bnb etc because of the quick profit,  I can almost guarantee you that you are probably going to lose out in the long term.  What is important Cryptocurrency is long term perspective. Every altcoins that has a relation to bitcoin trading pairs fall down after bear market came by the time of ATH in btc. Right now as we experienced cheap price for entire cryptocurrency exchange markets, we should take this as best opportunity to buy coins with low price. That amount of $5k, I think good enough to fulfill your target of earning sustainable gains.

1. My first pick will be Kick seem interesting but believe me these is really underrated coin their Blockchain is also launching on Q1 2023
2. MATIC and OKT despite gaining so much attention these coin is still undeterred these could be next bnb so keep your eyes on these project
3. TRX the platform is already launched  and gain huge popularity due to their low fees many expert believe that Trx can touch even 1$ you may don't want to miss TRX also
