This might get deleted and banned but don't care anymore. After using BitCoinTalk for over 4 years (Different account), I'm finding that being able to promote a project here extremely difficult. Has it lost its purpose for new projects? New posts announcements don't even go to the first page. They are pushed to the second page the second you post them where no one can see them. The rules state no auto replies or paid replies for ANN threads and bounties yet there are tons in the token announcement area. Looking at projects on the first page you can clearly see bought and paid for replies. Are moderators being paid off to overlook these?

I think this can not be faulted about the system in this forum because basically if your thread is interesting and useful to many people of course the thread you create will be appreciated and will get a very good response from those in this forum, but if the thread you are ordinary and seem useless, don't blame the system, blame yourself for creating useless threads

The problem is that 99.9% of "projects" are just people looking for others to give them money, which isn't a "viable project" as you say.  If the project is good, develop it into something and then you'll have people discussing the project and bumping it to keep it relevant for you.  If your project is just a bunch of promises of building something amazing, and there's no working prototype of infrastructure, then you aren't posting a project, you're posting a pipe dream and asking for handouts.  This isn't the forum for that.  Build something that works first, then promote it.

The forum works best for a project when people come here to talk about it, rather than people finding out about it here and then talking about it on Discord or Telegram or something.

That's how you gain organic interest and get your project to move up the ANN list. But this only works if your project is actually "interesting" in the first place.

All it takes is a single bump from a Hero or Legendary member (perhaps even lower rank) to move a thread to the top of the page.

For example, the last time somebody bumped the F*CK TRUMP token thread was on Sept. 20, 2017.

Now after pressing the bump button:

Sails right ahead of a billion dollar project.

Ideally you get at least one veteran forum member who likes your project and is willing to comment and/or press the "bump" button from time to time and voila, rankings.

Comments contributed by experienced forum members also help your ranking as well.

Not impossible, just difficult due to the huge numbers of trash being promoted in those sections. Assuming a certain project is actually good and legit, they just have to get the message across in a clear manner, and chances are that it will gain organic traction.

But then again, we're talking about good and legit projects here. Whereas a huge majority are simply just crap.

In addition to @nutildah's post, refer to the following thread to get the whole picture: Bumping changes on some boards

The rules state no auto replies or paid replies for ANN threads and bounties yet there are tons in the token announcement area.
Have you tried reporting them?

Looking at projects on the first page you can clearly see bought and paid for replies. Are moderators being paid off to overlook these?
Nope, and they're also not robots! It's not fair to expect they'd be able to moderate every single post out there, there's only so much they could do.

When I check ANN, I usually adjust it to time sorting. I am a person who is willing to look for new projects, so old projects may not be that attractive to me. Of course, the top-ranked old projects obviously have their loyal fans. If I have enough bump, I will give it to the new project I like Smiley

We weren't asking for money because we built the project with our own money already. We were merely introducing people to the project. A free project at that. We did find out that all newbies posts are sent to the second page. This is per the moderator. Didn't used to be that way.

You're just less persistent and too much earning money. Try changing that kind of thinking, then practice here for a while. Because quality will get you to a project that is worthy of the quality you have. try to build something educational first, give something thought provoking deeply.
It doesn't automatically disappear or no one responds and deletes it. So, back to the gist of what you conveyed, did it educate us or not?

Actually no. You can't tell me that I'm "Too much earning money" on a project we already built. We're not asking for money. We're not having an ICO. Again, we built it and I was merely announcing it and got sent to the 2nd page. I did find out that it's because the account I used was a newbie account. Wasn't like that 4 years ago. The ANN threads are full of crap and paid promotions regardless of the rules. Again, we never asked for money but I digress. This site seems to have become less relevant.

Imagine Altcoin ANN section doesn't using current bump system, everytime you visit the section you'll see new project every hour appear on first pages. If all user were like you, they can simply bump their topic and using their alt to make their thread on the 1st pages. Many newbies will be trapped on crap and scam project, while the legit and old project will be dead or less activity in that's section since they didn't shills.

I haven't been around 4 years ago, but I can only imagine being much worse than now, because before changes the way threads were sorted this paid bumper technique actually worked, while now it's completely useless. So if anything, it can only be easier for legit projects with genuine interest to stand out. The fact that altcoins are mostly promoted on other social media platforms like Twitter is another story...

By the way, have you considered running signature campaign?

If you want to see new announcements and check them every day you can simple use this in your browser adress field https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0;sort=first_post;desc .
With that you see only the new Threads and Projects that was done Today and the last days.
As Rikafip has written it was the worst with paid Users that has only or mostly written " Good Project " and pushed it back to the first page.
It is good and better now how it is now.

Was told by a moderator when asking for rules, you can't run signature campaigns anymore but it's just another thing happening here. Complete inconsistencies. Since we're not having an ICO we would be interested in having someone run a signature campaign but to not risk ban I won't promote it here. Our contact can be found by our website which is the same as our username.

The forum works best for a project when people come here to talk about it, rather than people finding out about it here and then talking about it on Discord or Telegram or something.
I don't know what kinds of projects OP is talking about, but I tend to agree with OgNasty that historically "projects" advertised on bitcointalk have been either money-grabbing attempts by devs who only care about lining their own pockets or, IMO, they're projects that are ill thought-out and unnecessary--and just take a look at the ICO craze from a couple of years ago for evidence of that.  There were so many tokens being created to solve problems that either didn't exist or didn't need a solution in the first place.  And then the rest of those were complete scams.

Ultimately, bitcointalk isn't a great place to promote whatever project you're working on.  Yes, there's an ANN section devoted to doing exactly that, but as you've noticed there's no way to keep your thread anywhere near the top of the first page.  There are too many paid thread bumpers and just too many ANN threads altogether.

Comments contributed by experienced forum members also help your ranking as well.
That's very true.  If older, more experienced members who don't have a vested interest in the project you've created a thread about make positive comments in it, then that does add an air of credibility to it.  Just don't purchase a senior account to make those comments.  Heh heh.

True that "Good Project" replies were posted but if you view the ANN threads you'll see that "Good Project" has been changed for "Sounds Good", "Interesting Project", "Great Team" and so on. It's all paid shilling. Viable projects that are already built and have a good use case just don't get noticed but again, I digress. It is what it is. Twitter is still a good promotional tool for projects. Don't get me started on top crypto news outlets and their huge crypto demands for articles. In this day you need millions of dollars to get good projects going. In time I'm sure we'll do well and we'll just continue the grind. It's fun! Really it is. Smiley

These types of replies will be deleted if they are seen by a moderator. Although, its impossible for us to actually go into each thread, and read it in its entirety. When the bumping changes were implemented, I did, and still do go through the threads which are in the first couple of pages every so often, and delete any of the spam that I find. However, reporting in that section has gone down significantly, and that's why its building up again. If you see anything that you think is breaking the rules, and therefore making it detrimental to other projects, then please report them.

There's generally a ton of content that's deleted every day in the Altcoin sections so its not like its being ignored there's simply just too much spam, and not enough reporting. To compare to its peak, reporting in the sections that I moderate has likely gone down more than ten fold the amount we received during its peak.

How hard is it for you to find the report to moderator button when you know exactly that something is wrong with another user's behavior for a different project?

I don't understand why you are so sure to suspect that moderator have been paid for the altcoin project that there are so many thread and post that violate the rule are ignored. That's totally untrue as I'm sure there are dozen of bullshit post reported all the time for deletion. All the moderator here have their own capacity and responsibility to moderate the forum in the best possible way, they should not be considered as people taking bribes when it's just you and dozen of other project that don't attract the attention of the community.
