This is old news from around 2021, actually the idea created by Professor Cho is a great idea which uses things that people consider useless to become valuable. Apart from the link you provided, there are lots of mainstream media platforms that report this too, including: Reuters, Analytic Insight, Decrypt and Cointelegraph.
