I've remember hearing about Schnorr and Mast and Taproot years ago. Now that Taproot is confirmed and coming in November, what are the major improvements to Bitcoin that are being researching/worked on now that we could see within a few years?

I guess one of them could be Pedersen Commitments, because things like that are prepared on LTC, there are plans for introducing MimbleWimble protocol, so if it will be successful on LTC, then I guess it will be also implemented on BTC, as it was before with Segwit. With Taproot it is possible to join signatures, so it is logical to allow joining transactions in the future (not necessarily with hiding amounts, because range proofs are quite heavy).
