The info on the WHOIS seems to indicate an apartment or office building if the street view is pointed correctly. And the site ran entirely off donations (and probably subsidy from a real business) so what's to blackmail?

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

I think something illegal posted on the site may have come to the notice of any authority and he got some mail. So got spooked and closed the site.

p.s. I think site owners should not be held responsible for user's wrong doings.

As a member of BitcoinTalk, you are surrounded by legends; phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. The forum was created by Satoshi Nakamoto and saw the first exchange, the first altcoin, and the first ICO, but also catastrophic software flaws, massive thefts, and incredible scams. You too have an opportunity to become part of the forum's history: whether and in what way you do so is up to you.

They can't be, see craigslist. If "good faith" efforts are made to remove illegal stuff, the site can't be legally shut down.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Damn, I showed up to the party late.

That is a real shame that someone did that. I wish we had a little more details on the threat.
