Bitcoin is one of the biggest part of the rising of cryptocurrency which people used to know bitcoin than the whole platform of digital currency. Personally I used to know that once a bitcoin price hike most likely it will greatly affect the altcoin prices too which in contrast on the state of price of bitcoin. But now as we can see in the market, the bitcoin price gets high and altcoins followed. I think it's not only that bitcoin price hike affected altcoin positively but because altcoins now were already have a good number of investors that believing in the project.
Yes, bitcoin price impacts a lot of things and market moves based on that, I do not think we move based on anything else. I get that it may not be easy for everyone else but that seems like a good way to make some money. Bitcoin is the only price you need to follow, if it goes up then rest goes up as well and if it goes down then rest goes down too. So, if you strictly just check bitcoin then you can guess the market and where it is headed and will make moves based on that.
