Hello there fellow forum users,

A friend of mine just told me about this crypto mining, and I decided to give it a go, and might have some profit.

My Pc is :
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G1 650W
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X-UD3
CPU: I7 6700
RAM: 3200MHz DDR4 RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX Black CL16 - 2x8GB
VGA: Gigabyte GTX970 Xtreme

My question would be, that which coins should I try to farm and with which program ?
I was trying to follow this guide : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K0tgwEuMYI

But I stumbled into a wall in the first minute, cause I could not download any working version of Phoenix miner, cause my pc, or browser always told me there is a virus in the files.

Please help me with some instructions, how to start this,
Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you,

With that setup you wont be able to mine much. The GPU is really outdated. You could give a few altcoins a shot but I don't think you will get much depending on your electricity cost. Even the CPU is showing a net loss per day on Nicehash with a quick check. You will either need to upgrade your GPU (preferred) or your CPU, but CPU mining does not make much.

Your card is really old.It can do right now not so good in Ethereum Classic and your only option is to mine Raven coin. You can try to disable completely your antivirus and security software and only download the Phoenix miner from the official link which you can find in the first page of his thread here in the forum, otherwise you can try different other miners.

https://phoenixminer.info/downloads/

Having said that you will not make much just 2 RVN daily which is like 0.25 USD with that card which is really low nowadays speaking. If you can get a better card like a RTX 2000 or 3000 series you can make like 10-15 RVN a day which is average of 1.5-2 dollars a day which should be ok I think.

You can still mine with gtx970 in 2021 though it's a old card but still works on NBminer mining ravencoin, this will bring you 50+ $ every month, expect 14-15MH kawpow hashrate from this card, use this calculator

That is a really old and outdated calculator,GTX 970 cannot do more than 2 or just above 2 Mhsh in Raven right now and it is not worthy as I already said in my above post.Do not believe better hash calculator, they have not updated their page, use other calculators like Whattomine,Nicehash, and others to verify what is the actual hash rate of a specific card right now.

Do some research, don't expect personalized service. You shouldn't have any trouble finding many threads
asking the same question.  Ask your friend that suggested mining. Don't be lazy

I am planing to buy a 2060 or something like this card, and later I can improve for the better.
I will also try to turn off virus scanners.
Just needed some infromation, cause for example I heard that claymore miner is not the best in case of slowing down the macine, so I might give a try gminer.

Also just wanted to know that can I do mining on my 970, gut it seems like I should wait for my 2060, might I can get it.
and then make the steps towards mining.

I always ask about the cost of electricity. If it is cheap, then nothing prevents you from mining Ethereum Classic or Raven coin now. But since your video card is old, I would first clean the video card from dust and replace the thermal pads.
I am using phoenix miner with antivirus enabled, no problem.

I would go for the latest version 5.7b which is the best so far that they have made. However if you happen to have problems with it you can switch to 5.4c which supports older versions of Nvidia driver.Anyway I think whichever version you choose from 5.4c and up you should have no problems as you are just running a single card for the moment.

The GTX970 was a very good gaming card and it still is, however it was never a good mining card. I remember back in 2016 many people had this card and the speed wasn't the best and later on I think there was some issues where the DAG got over a certain Epoch and it didn't function right.

Your best bet is to list it on Craiglist and try and buy an RX 470 8GB or any of the RX series but it needs to be 8GB, you might need to add a little however that GPU you will be able to mine ETH at 30mh/s. And you won't have to worry about any DAG issues because the 8GB memory is going to most likely last longer than ETH POW.

Why 2060? The card is good for mining but 1660super is better, price almost the same and hashrate is 27MH to 32MH,MH difference when mining ETH but the advantage here is 1660super runs with 57watts only compare to 2060 that takes over 90watts at 27MH, 1660 super can do 32MH at 57watt

advice try buy some used gpu amd series rx400,rx500,rx5000/6000,rxvega, nvidia rtx3060+ series
adding more psu for multi gpu mining and i think cpu&ram to overkill for mining, better build new dedicated rigs, with dedicated motherboard

No need to buy dedicated motherboard. A mining farm must be assembled from those components that can be bought very quickly in the store.
Therefore, I prefer regular ATX motherboards for 5-7 video cards, so that the consumed power of the mining farm does not exceed 1 kilowatt.
