While scrolling on a random telegram channel, i found a post saying: "my country has banned crypto trading and i want to out my investment, someone help, my private key is : c94f4a0988ffc2b473de335a52a35d812d8b8db9b4fdef16fa1d0144255203a7 "

so i did what any reasonable man would do, i imported his wallet to see what's inside, there i found 32,000 MNE which from coinmarketcap it's valued at 0.0731$ in the time of this posting, that means a value of 2339.2$,

however the scam is that you have to pay a gas fee of 7-20$ depending on the day but as soon as you transfer the funds to pay for the fees they transfer them into a new wallet, which is very smart,

and my question is do you think this scam is really worth it? i mean can someone beat the system and be able to actually scam the scammers. would love to hear what you guys think of this new/old scam.

Won't they get any money from that since it's a gas fee? They're not trying to scam you but more like trolling people into spending gas fees without getting anything in return.

It's an old scam. Iirc around since about 2018. The only difference is that now the gas fee for the tokens has risen significantly, hence the thief will steal more.
I guess that this kind of scammers will always be fishing a few greedy newbies. I don't know what could be done against them. The victims kinda deserve their fate too.

Most of the requests for help from Telegram are scams or trolling and therefore it is better to avoid including the private key in any wallet as the other party has lost everything that proves its ownership of those coins.

Some tokens are locked under certain conditions, such as trading in a specific platform or paying certain gas fees or others, but the problem lies in selling them, as some currencies are sold on an anonymous platform that requires identity verification or depositing funds, which is an indirect fraud.

You can't beat them. The fee to send the tokens is much higher than the fee to send out ETH, so the scammer will always be able to set a higher fee on the transaction that steals your ETH. Technically you might be able to override that transaction but that just means that you get less ETH back than you sent to the address and the scammer suffers only a mild annoyance.

Won't they get any money from that since it's a gas fee? They're not trying to scam you but more like trolling people into spending gas fees without getting anything in return.

The ETH that you would send to the address to fund the token transfer (e.g. $20 worth of ETH) will be stolen by the scammer (minus e.g. a $2 ETH TX fee). The scammer pockets the remaining $18 because as I mentioned above "pure" ETH TX fees are much lower than token TX fees.

It's a trap you cannot transfer the whole MNE to a new wallet because MNE tokens are locked and you can withdraw a small portion it if your wallet is mining MINERIUM it will take you many years before you can withdraw it unfortunately many fell victim on this scam it's a new scam..

Check out the transaction on that wallet

This is what happens if you are too greedy to do research you need to upgrade the genesis wallet to mine MNE those tokens on that wallet is locked if it is not upgraded there are thousands who receive that airdrop unfortunately it's being used to scam people

Thank you for clarifying, that's a really hideous scam if you think about it, it's making you waste your time and you also don't get anything. Not to mention that these scammers have stooped so low that they're happy stealing measly amount of crypto.

Like most other scams, it relies on greed. If one would not try to steal from others, he will not send that gas fee to that address in the first place.
Imho the scammed one is most guilty for the loss - in both time and money. (Of course, this doesn't make the scammer any better)

LOL even better. Makes sense, it's some airdropped nonsense that cost the scammer nothing, and they already scammed ~$40 so it's pure profit.

Keep in mind though, this type of gas scam would still work with any ERC20 token (and probably most other smart contracts), not just with locked craptokens.

LOL indeed. petty crook but clever enough to manage to lure some crooks who took advantage of his offer. 2k is a big amount of money. of course what reason would you have if you send some eth for its transaction but to trade that MNE tokens. the crook scams some crooks.

he'd panic if its unlocked though. anyone who has 888K of KICKEX token may also be doing this, it might give an idea to some of those who recieved that locked tokens.
