At a guess, someone was doing routing updates and messed something up.
Big providers like Verizon & AT&T & Cogent have had issues like this at times when something that is 100% routine and checked dozens of times in testing dies when it goes live.
AWS has spun themselves into oblivion a few times also due to routing issues.
Not going to worry about it, mostly because I don't have a Facebook or Instagram account.

What's the relation between this.. news and Bitcoin? 2. Bitcointalk is up and running, hence all I can tell about FB&Co is "who cares?" 3. Don't worry, govt services all over the world need FB&Co up and running so people can put pictures about themselves, tell what are they doing and where (basically doing themselves a big part of the surveillance job). They'll be up in no time. |

What does this have to do with bitcoin? I am going to be sincere: there is a huge impact in communications in Brazil when all those services go down, WhatsApp is used by 100% of the people here. I am happy that my favorite social network in online (bitcointalk.org). But isn't this an opportunity to improve decentralized communication methods, such as lightning network chats? There are already some possibilities such as those one: https://www.getjuggernaut.com/But I have never tried them out. It would be amazing to have a decentralized communication alternative. And bitcoin can certainly provide us something like that |

Sadly, too much. IMO there are far to many BTC / crypto businesses that rely on facebook to relay news and other things. Some people get a lot of or all of their BTC and other crypto information from FB feeds. So,although we like to think that bitcointalk is all important, FB does matter in this regard. Waw have been noticing that since have been trying to access my whatsapp and Facebook but is not going have not been able to receive message and send message from my whatsapp have been thinking maybe the problem is from my phone, I think this should be normal update or something like that.

That explains it, being waiting for a live broadcast to start and the usual notifications that pop up once the guys go live on my mobile phone did not show up neither was my Facebook feed able to update.. what's going on at Facebook. My whatsapp is quiet as a frozen lake no notifications or messages coming from these platforms either.
By the way why have all these platforms gone down together, thought the are run independent of each other to avoid such downtimes , I guess this is a major loss of revenue for these guys and should be an eye opener not to run them as an intergrated system run on same platform.

All I have to say is LOL. This has also happened a year or two ago if I remember correctly.
Sadly now I can't contact my relatives who are all on Whatsapp but this isn't really going to last long.
It probably won't be the last time Facebook makes a screwup like this though, unless maybe if the revenue loss from this kicks them hard in the backside.

Could have posted this on another board, Bitcoin isn't involved, but I do think this could be a possible data breach, therefore, Facebook Co. had to shut their servers down immediately, although this is just my own guess towards the situation.

Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram - this is not direct connected with bitcoin but... Facebook and others down so traders are nervous a bit probably so that can have impact. Also some project based on btc are promoting there (Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram).
