i knew the site or this timer already. only the problem with me and other users was that the timer has displayed a wrong time after generating...
has this now been fixed or is that also the case with you?
if i look at your screenshot and the countdown timer, then it is still like this... Tongue

What do you mean by "the timer has displayed the wrong time after generating"?
Here is my attempt:

This should count down approximately 24 hours from now.

I was able to learn a new thing today.  But I do not know how this timer can be useful?  Can anyone tell me what is the use of it?

It is just a visual representation you can use in you posts. Such a feature could be useful, for example, if you are organizing some time-limited competitions or tournaments. As another example, the countdown to token sales in ICO announcement topics.

not only that... another point are e.g. the auctions in the collectibles section
since from this section very many collectors from different regions/continents/timezones come, this timer/counter helps very much - i speak from my own experience Wink

This should count down approximately 24 hours from now.

I see your post was made at 11:08 PM / 23:08 (how ever you prefer)
So that means 52min + 15h29min (my local time) + 7h30min = 23h52min
8 minutes are missing...

It's good but not 100% accurate  Wink

No, it doesn't work that way. The timer is set up to count down to a certain time.
For example, I set October 12, 2021, 11:00:00 PM (my time zone). The time I made the post has no effect on the timer.

We sometimes see promises of some accounts promising something by a certain date. For example, one character once promised us that he would quickly increase his rank, in a fairly short period of time, while naming a date.
It was a pretty loud promise, to which it would be worth attaching a similar timer. But of course, his words remained empty, without any results.  Smiley

@cygan is right! Go to the link in #4 [Ratimov's post] and open it on another tab, then compare the result [side by side] with the one that's displayed in #6 [there's a difference of a few minutes].

  • I recorded a video to show the problem in question: Video link

    - Skip to "09[minutes] 25[seconds]" on the first countdown timer > Instead of going down a second, it'll add another minute ("10[minutes] 24[seconds]")
    - Skip to "06[minutes] 11[seconds]" on the second countdown timer > Instead of going down a second, it'll add another minute ("07[minutes] 10[seconds]")

I already checked other alternatives [e.g. getmara] and all of them behaved exactly the same.

Using a timer really help in managing self amidst busy schedules and also help multitasking with accuracy in time management and efficiency, thou the use of this timer seems of less relevant to most as it is believed that within the little time you would have go online to set the timer and generate it one would have done with using the phone or analog one which is faster and uses no data connection. But on a sincere note this timer is really effective on those that spent much of their time online.

How does this image manage to update itself after a long time? Are they creating just a frame for each second? You can only have a certain number of frames inside the image until the size eventually balloons and it becomes infeasible to load quickly as an embed.

It looks like it's GIF (it's just 37.1KB large, I tried saving it). 20 * 86400 seconds is 1728000 or almost 2 million. In bytes this is way more than 37.1KB. The image link just makes an API call to generate a new image at the current countdown timer so I think the image will halt mid-way unless you reload the page.

You are both right. This seems to be very inaccurate. I haven't noticed that before.

Yes, it looks like it is a GIF image. I do not know how many seconds they put in one image but your calculation does not take into account image and video compression. Only the first frame contains all the pixels, each subsequent frame contains only information about the changed pixels compared to the previous frame.

Refreshing the page probably makes a new API call to generate a new image. But since bitcointalk uses CDN, I'm not sure how that works. Maybe that is why the countdown timer is not accurate.

I tried to do this for my free lottery. Yes, it is beautiful, convenient and stylish for the design of information in the post. But! In order for the time remaining before the checkpoint to be accurate, you do not need to close the forum page, while for others it will be a different mark. It's a pity, the whole point for this is lost.

edit... Most likely, need to choose a plan for the timer to work correctly. Otherwise, it is presented for informational purposes.

I took a screenshot of your post at 13-38 Moscow time. Then I added up the current time and the time remaining to the checkpoint. I got the value 01.11.2021 2:38:00. Minutes look pretty strange, usually choose full hours. What date and time did you choose to create a reverse time counter?

I'll do another control slice tomorrow to compare the results.

Without choosing a plan, the timer can be selected for a maximum of 30 days. Are your lotteries running for more than 30 days?
I'm talking about the accuracy, not the duration of the countdown timer.

Etc/UTC(UTC +00:00)
I mean the end point (for example, the exact date of birth or some other time marker which you wanted to control), but not the choice of the time zone when setting the timer. In any case, I will do it again tomorrow and the end dates will have to match.

I mean the end point

I just set the timer for the demonstration to the maximum value that is available in the free version.
If you set the counter for 30 days, and the time of creation of your post is October 11, 2021, 06:22:26 AM, then without going into exact calculations, November 11 will come in 11 days...
We will be able to check the accuracy of the timer tomorrow using my method.

We will be able to check the accuracy of the timer tomorrow using my method.
As I said, I made a new measurement to determine whether the timer shows the exact time. A screenshot of the timer made by me on October 21 at 15:40 local time.

For calculations, as last time, I used this resource. I got this result.

As we can see, the end date of the timer is equal to the date from yesterday's slice.

I got the value 01.11.2021 2:38:00.

Therefore, we can confidently say that this timer works correctly. Why I got a "broken timer" for my lottery remains a mystery to me.

edit... use CTRL-F5 for refresh browser page solves the problem for me. Therefore, the timer may not work correctly within one session.

That's very useful when we are doing some time restricted things and as I was still unaware of this timer related part so thanks for sharing with all of us and that's why i say that forum is a place where you could learn many new things with correct information without any cost. Will surely try this feature whenever I get a chance.
