clearly in the subject of the saying: "money loves silence," I know several bloggers who also disclosed their accounts until they were hacked and all the money was withdrawn, or such stories happen to miners with farms. It is better not to spread out about your income.

If you have done this before like 10 years ago, nobody will give you such attention and might say you are a crazy person but for now, at this current price, NO, you should have to keep your mouth otherwise someone get some interest and will take it from you.
That is something different these days, it is not secure anymore to keep it in public, even the thieves don't get you this but the government or the authorities will seize it from you especially when it was not legal in your place. For me, it should have to keep quiet and make anonymous as long as we can.

The guys always joked.. saying that your bitcoins are just as safe as the gun being pushed against your head... and this is very true. It is safe, if nobody knows about your coins... but once people know about it... you are basically marked as a potential target for hackers and thiefs.

I do not know if anything can be done to protect you from a personal (physical) attack.... other than you hiding the fact that you own a lot of coins. I had a suspicious burglary a few months ago, where they ransacked the house... looking for something, but fortunately nothing was stolen. (I do not keep any bitcoins/paper wallets/private keys etc... at home)  Wink

This is a quite unique case considering that they are definitely after bitcoin from the bragging of the kidnapped child.
but this can be used as a reminder for us because bad people always lurk anywhere and anytime.
despite all that I still do not understand the purpose of people in uploading or disseminating their assets and assets.
actually indirectly this is what makes the improvement increase and you are one of the best that is easy to find when deliberately spreading both gibberish or eg images and so on.

Some people are really proud on saying into someone or publicly on what they had attained without even thinking about the possible risk that lies ahead which in case things do happen then
thats the time they do make out regrets and do really learned a lesson but eventually we could really avoid these kind of events if we are really just keep quiet and continue
your crypto journey and profiting without the need of saying everything in public. As always, Bitcoin is the main culprit again.  Cry

It's unfortunate for the kid, He didn't have experience with the world and mostly how people react to those who have money and are vulnerable.

I'm wondering if someone in his family told him to not do any stunt like the one he did. And more importantly on social media with his full address... No doubt it was bound to happen.

This is true.

But when someone I know asks me if I'm in, I'm happy to share what I've been through but I never brag what I've got since I'm also alarmed with that situation that has happened to others.

It's good to keep it as a secret but if there's someone whom you trust and it's fine to you, tell it freely if you want to but nobody forces you in doing so.

it seems that being too open and showing off one's wealth is becoming very dangerous at this point. Well, maybe those bad guys have been watching his activities for a long time, and kidnapped him when he had the chance.
however, I also thought not to flaunt our wealth in public. We don't know what the bad guys out there are thinking. maintaining privacy can also be something that keeps us safe from bad people.

Nowadays we need to be careful when publicly admitting to owning Bitcoin. A lot of crypto traders have been receiving threats as in the case of Daniel one of the guys from Chart Champions.

Things are escalating as, apparently, a 14-year-old kid from England got kidnapped after bragging on social media posts about having lots of money made from trading cryptocurrencies.

That's why I don't like anyone to know I'm in the Crypto business.
This is true. Don't be too confident to share it to other's especially if you don't totally know them because we don't know if what will be playing on their minds after knowing we own bitcoin. It is too dangerous to narrate to people that you are involved in crypto industry. It's better to not show unto them for you to not receive threats like you said. As much as possible it's better to not expose ownership. However, social media was too popular right now that's why we can't just ignore it, as we can see most of the people who hold bitcoin are too proud to tell the whole world that they own even just a little. They must be careful because evil acts might always monitor them from all direction that they are not aware of.

for me its not threats or kidnapping.

it was more of the female gold diggers and male 'buddy i need a favour'.. basically people treating you as their way of getting free money by sucking up to you as their best friend.

certain people think you will be the one buying the rounds of drinks, or be the person to give them buddy loans that are interest free with no repayment commitments

i never publicly blasted out to random strangers what i do, so not an ego thing. but you definitely notice certain people you have previously associated with change their persona towards you once they know

I don't think that it was ever safe to make a coming out like that, people don't like what they don't understand, it makes them curious, but you never know their reaction, so simply say you're an accountant Grin

People also don't like it when others succeed. I'm not sure why, but I've noticed that if one of my friends gets a new car or other new possessions, they mock or bash him about it. When it comes to starting a business, they don't think about others; they only think about themselves. Right now, the best thing to do is to keep quiet and keep your head down. Previously, many people would be pleased if you shared your accomplishments, but now they will begin to criticize you.

They must be careful because evil acts might always monitor them from all direction that they are not aware of.

Therefore we must wisely use social media, because many criminals use social media too. Not all things are good for us to share on social media,
we must be able to limit which things are allowed to be shown to the public. Especially when it comes to wealth, it can attract the attention of
criminals. With Bitcoin price already above $60k, that's a very high value. So for people showing off that they own Bitcoin, it means they are
indirectly telling the public they are rich. Of course this makes them the target of criminals, especially now that the global crisis is still happening,
make people look for shortcuts to earn money. So in some countries the crime rate has increased since the pandemic. So it's better we don't have
to show how much Bitcoin we have, or don't even look at the profit we make from trading on social media, it's very risky.

I think someone already posted this kind of problem where when someone is bragging about his crypto assets, those evil guys will find some way to get him especially when they are in the same country. Just like what happened to these guys, they are a victim of their own mouth because they cannot shut it due to wanting to get some compliment from the people.

https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks/blob/master/README.md

Looks like the data is updated as well, you can put it in the first page OP to lat everyone aware of what they gonna get if they will do the same as those people on the list.

Nowadays, it is preferable to hide rather than to flaunt one's wealth.
It's absolutely bad to flaunt one's wealth. What's the gain in doing that, come to think of it if not to intimidate others. For me, only those who are in showbiz can flaunt and it's justifiable because flaunting in a part of showbiz. Otherwise, there's no need one letting others know about one's bling bling.

At least the kid is all right after that ordeal, which I'm sure must have been terrifying.
That kid's life won't be the same again. It's scarred for the rest of it. That horrifying trauma of his kidnap will perpetually be there in his subconsciousness to torment him. I'm sure his sleep will be nightmarish this day. Again, there's likely to be repeated attempts on him now that people know he's worth something; except his parents are able to provide him private security. It's just goodbye to childhood for him. He may not be able to lead a normal hassle free life of children again.

Hopefully the jackoff kidnapper will do the entire 4 years.
Four years is a slap on the wrist for such a heinous crime.

Having a crypto investment now needs more attention for the holders, and it is not easy to share what they have because that can attract people's attention. The bad people can do many things, including kidnapping those who have crypto until they say where they keep their coin and transfer it into the kidnapper's wallet. That is your investment, and that is your responsibility to protect your funds in a secret wallet. Do not let other people know where you keep your coins.

Having bitcoins or a full-time trader isn't something to brag about publicly, because evil minds nowadays are already lurking almost everywhere and worst they are the ones whom you know or a relative. So in order to secure yourself and keep your family safe it's better not to boast about it or even share a tiny detail that you're on bitcoin doing trading and stuff.

If you can't bring yourself in that state, it's better to relocate somewhere else where nobody knows you or anything you do. And install cctv or hire somebody if you can afford.

That is your investment, and that is your responsibility to protect your funds in a secret wallet. Do not let other people know where you keep your coins.
Such crimes are indeed very prone to occur, because the target of criminals is directly at crypto users. As owners of crypto wealth, we must really maintain our identity and do not share our public addresses.
Cryptocurrencies are very transparent and no one can hide, all will be recorded. therefore, do not include your real identity if it will be dangerous.
Keep the private key safe and don't share it with anyone except trusted people.

Well, you're somewhat correct but it isn't safe online as well.
Someone getting your email and sending you fake wallet links. Forget about fake links you search on google "blockchain wallet" and the first few results are fake wallets.

I remember this incident occurred with EtherDelta and Blockchain.info wallet not it's Blockchain.com

Getting scammed are typically the result of those common human behavior on which we are really fan on  clicking and downloading things online without
even knowing that you are already gradually been hacked  which it do really plays a big role into yourself about having that common sense and awareness on dealing up with things. You wont really be easily scammed if you do really make yourself mindful about being realistic on things
and wont really be making yourself blind about probabilities.
