After so many tries, I guess I have to finally admit that
It bothers me if someone degrades him/herself about his capabilities of doing a masterpiece. I have joined numerous art events/ contest outside bitcointalk before and unfortunately I've also experienced losing an event multiple times which is quite a bit hard to accept and to just moved on. I am also once a beginner in this field @Betwrong, loses and has been frustrated multiples but then the only thing that you can do is to get out of your comfort zone and explore whatever genre of art you are interested in whether it be traditional, digital, mural etc..
There are lots of tutorial which you can find in youtube like
Proko and
Florent Farges Art who does both oil painting and graphite drawing. You just need a lot of practice and consistency in your work.
Anyhow, goodluck on your journey. Don't get frustrated too much.
