This morning was the first time I noticed this message on the homepage of bitcoin dot org.

Quote
On 28 June 2021 the High Court of England and Wales made an order in Claim No. IL-2021-000008 between Dr Craig Wright and the person or persons responsible for the publication of this website whereby such person or persons were restrained from infringing Dr Wright’s copyright in the Bitcoin White Paper. The claim was not defended, and judgment was entered in default. A copy of the order is available at the following link: https://bitcoin.org/IL-2021-000008-Wright-v-Cobra.pdf.

I am not one that understands legal jargon, so could someone explain what exactly this is saying? Why is this important?

There was a court case on it if you follow the link that found in favour of Craig Wright for something because the person it was against didn't speak and just used the text chat (which I think the judge counted as a lack of attendance).

It is very strange that the man who claims to have written the whitepaper would want it removed from the internet.  Almost like maybe he didn't write it?  I couldn't imagine that the person who wrote that document would ever be against it being displayed everywhere.  You would assume the exact opposite would be true.  This has been quite the eye opener for those of us who have gone out of our way to avoid legal trouble, as seeing someone lie and manipulate the court system for their own sick reasons using money and lawyers is a good behind the scenes look at how the world works.

The man discredits himself with every move he makes, and unfortunately, no one has shown up to take advantage of all those moves and bring him down legally in court. Faketoshi only benefits from the fact that some people want to remain anonymous, which is more than enough a sign for the courts to rule in his favor - because the other side, by its silence and inactivity, only confirms his views.

While anyone with a little common sense knows that the CW is not a person who introduced himself as Satoshi Nakamoto, some find it hard to understand that it is possible that things like such court rulings happen then. I hope that someone will find enough courage to oppose him in the right way.

Cobra obviously chose to remain anonymous rather than present himself in court and doxx himself to the world. This is something that has made it possible for newbies to get fooled by CSW, Calvin Ayre and their propaganda outlets like coingeek.

Recently when a few Bitcoin devs publicly announced that they are stepping away from Bitcoin development, the whole troll brigade was sending memes about how CSW will get them all. It would have been funny if it wasn't such a tragedy to realize that there are so many idiots in the world who fail to understand that Bitcoin is not "owned" by one person or the Core Devs. So yeah, if someone will try law, nobody will give a fuck and won't even respond. If the court rules in his favor in absence of any opposition doesn't make it law.

The OP could as well have put up that case and won it if he had the money and the time to hire lawyers and file lawsuits.

While anyone with a little common sense knows that the CW is not a person who introduced himself as Satoshi Nakamoto, some find it hard to understand that it is possible that things like such court rulings happen then. I hope that someone will find enough courage to oppose him in the right way.
I always heard that "Common Sense isn't Common". I never imagined it'd be sooooo damn rare.

Sad to learn this belatedly, though I suppose this had been expected, of course Cobra did the right thing. And he did respond, of course, just a shitty court stuck in the stone age. Gotta say, it ain't just newbies on the Kool-Aid... it's just particular types of person and these particular people apparently are a lot more common that we dare to imagine.

It's probably because of the ideology behind Bitcoin. I mean the decentralization bit and the omission of a central authority, middle man or even owner.

Bitcoin is not like a company that has A CEO and then other different teams like the legal team, marketing team etc. So when someone like Faketoshi shows up claiming that he's the owner of the whitepaper through fucked up centralized bodies like Courts of law, there are high chances that no true Bitcoin enthusiast will come up against him in those messed up courts of law.

We could do away with the legal jargon and interpret this in layman's term. So, this means nothing but harassment. Craig Wright claims he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Of course, that is not true. But it has to be settled in court. But being the claimant of the person behind the name, he also claimed that he wrote and therefore owned the whitepaper. He is suing everybody who is using the whitepaper without his consent. That includes the anonymous person who controls Bitcoin.org. Since anonymity is definitely more important that giving dignity to a clown, the person did not appear in court. As a result, the court ruled in favor of the clown.

The Bitcoin whitepaper is stored in the blockchain as well so it should be well preserved.

You can get it with this command:

I may be wrong, but I guess Mbitr refers more to the resistance than the safekeeping of the whitepaper. I mean, we all have our copies of the whitepaper downloaded and saved somewhere safe.

But, indeed, the best part here is that we somehow need to resist or show some resistance to the court's decision on the copyright of the Bitcoin whitepaper. The legal decision was of course in favor of Mr. Wright because Cøbra did not even put up a fight in court. But since we all know that Mr. Wright is not Satoshi, did not write the whitepaper, and therefore does not own it, and cannot order any site to take down the whitepaper, we will be united to show that. The way is to "put the Bitcoin whitepaper on as many websites/ publications as you can."

In a way, this is like a civil disobedience, a resistance, a reaction to disobey a court order which is obviously unfair.

cases in court whether related to bitcoin or something else. I think this is like a legal case that needs to be resolved. especially when it comes to bitcoin and this can be a phenomenal one.

It's a file and Satoshi didn't even sell it which means it's meant to be distributed. Why not allow it to be distributed on BSV site too if he really is Satoshi.

So strange that the creator of BTC wants to take down the whitepaper of Bitcoin. He hasn't even proven he is the real satoshi but he already had ordered on what to do about the websites that just wanted to share the whitepaper. Craig Wright is delusional and he may really demand something terrible to Bitcoin if he'll mysteriously win the case. When all is done, it will not be safe for Bitcoin if its fate is in the hands of this guy.

Indeed, the whitepaper was released along with the initial source code, and the release was done using the MIT license, which is very permissive.

Satoshi wanted to have permissive licenses in the project:

Quote from: satoshi
If the only library is closed source, then there's a project to make an open source one.

If the only library is GPL, then there's a project to make a non-GPL one.

If the best library is MIT, Boost, new-BSD or public domain, then we can stop re-writing it.

I don't question that GPL is a good license for operating systems, especially since non-GPL code is allowed to interface with the OS.  For smaller projects, I think the fear of a closed-source takeover is overdone.]

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5346526.20

FYI - put the Bitcoin whitepaper on as many websites/ publications as you can  Smiley

The Bitcoin whitepaper is stored in the blockchain as well so it should be well preserved.

You can get it with this command:

Code:
bitcoin-cli getrawtransaction 54e48e5f5c656b26c3bca14a8c95aa583d07ebe84dde3b7dd4a78f4e4186e713 true |
jq -r '.vout[].scriptPubKey.asm' | cut -c3- |
xxd -p -r | tail +9c | head -c 184292 > bitcoin.pdf

In a way, this is like a civil disobedience, a resistance, a reaction to disobey a court order which is obviously unfair.

gmaxwell created a thread prompting as many people to do just this,
he also suggested notifying Wright's legal team.

For a very small amount of Bitcoin anyone can buy a domain name,
create a website and host the Bitcoin Whitepaper.

The greater number of people who do this the harder it is for Wright to attack
us all.

What can you expect in a world where people still have a need to worship central figures, whether they are politicians, successful businessmen, or celebrities? If you just look at how many people are preoccupied with who Satoshi Nakamoto was and why he disappeared, then it's clear why they think a few developers leaving the project or the fact that the Chinese can no longer mine is a problem that will result in Bitcoin soon becoming worthless.

And with that, the mainstream media fills their heads every day, non-stop - until lies and deceptions become truth - and what is really true is not true, but every lie that is repeated 1000 times by today's standards is true.

This is more than clear, what determines Bitcoin is exactly what becomes a burden in some situations - and although it seems that no one should care what the courts decide, we still live in a world where the common man depends on court rulings. One such decision does not have to play a significant role, but we need to ask ourselves what is next?
