What I've learned as a crypto miner in 2021

I've learnt that as a new crypto miner you should spend more money on components than GPU itself, don't get me wrong what I meant is buy better components and don't try saving money by buying cheap parts

1. I ended up buying cheap PSU which later kill two GPUs on my watch
2. New Motherboards are better, they gives less headaches than old Motherboards most especially when trying to use more GPUs on them unless the old mobo is mining dedicated
3. If you want to save money then do that with GPUs, find good offers or choose to go with used GPUs just make sure you tested things out yourself
4. Go with extra pcie space motherboard, I should have two mobo with me for mining but now it's four, all in the name of I don't want to spend much money, a B250 motherboard would have erase all the mess lol

The only way to safe money buying GPU is not buy at all when mining is profitable, you should be buying GPUs when market is in bearish season same as buying coins, this is why I used to call bear market a blessing, honestly nothing is better than bear market, it's always be best time to buy everything crypto.

There were many topics about this, probably you have not searched well or did not bother about, power supply always gold or higher and tier 1 to s only, tier a or b or lower forget, only motherboard mining friendly. Also something you need to learn is that never buy cheap version gpus, I had a friend  that had many rx 480 and 470, all with 4gb died, all with 8gb did not die, meaning bad solicon memory was on 4gb gpus, many other things to pay attention to, same model and cheaper gpus means not good, there is a reason manufactures charge more for same gpu but different model that cost more, for example 3080 at 699 usd and 3080 at 799 usd, in my line is better to get that 799 usd, probably there are better caps and silicon memory and gpu core and gpus will last longer but everything considered, need to pay attention to many other things but that how it goes, warranty manufacturer, all must be clearly studied and I'm not even a miner, imagine if I was, I think I would be more paranoid than I'm with my trades.

Cheaper parts don't mean by anyway cheap PSU as a miner you have only two parts to pay for PSU and GPU

You made the wrong choice by buying fake power supply from China, there are ways to source for cheap power supplies too for example buying a complete gaming pc on Amazon, they always come with 650 to 1000 watt power supply like OCZ, Corsair, akasa and others, components don't have to be brand new just make sure you buy the quality ones

But. if you have Zero gpus during a run up then you dont make money.  so jut have to be Careful in buying gpus on a bull run.  so its nice and all that on a bear run to buy gpus.

Bear run...  still no gpus to be had at just about any price.    now what?   was it better to buy those gpus during the bull run?

BTW im fairly sure there will be gpus used available on a bear run. 

my entire point here is on any gpu purchase, think it through and from at least 4 angles.

I do not advise buying video cards now, because they are expensive and it is not known how long Ethereum mining will last. In such a situation, it is better to wait for interesting prices for video cards.

I always advise to never buy anything over msrp because if you do then is a huge gamble, now is worse than ever but sheeps love doing mistakes so they will end up buying gpus and then later complain about their own stupid decisions.

I agree with you. But we won't see MSRP in GPU stores anytime soon, so each miner needs to do the calculations themselves, given their price of electricity and mining hardware.

Right now is in that stage where nobody sells and nobody buys, to have an opposite effect of last year when it started the bullrun and people ran to buy gpus, bitcoin would have to crash a lot and fast, right now people still think bitcoin will rise because that is the bullrun mentality, it takes time for that to happen and it takes time for that to fade, so for this to be successful bitcoin would have to keep 30k to 40k for the next 2 years and that is very very hard because as we progress and holders see that there is no volatility in this anymore then they will sell and move to something else, majority are speculators. Anyway, gpus will only return to msrp if bitcoin stays sideways or if it crashes or people want to sell their rtx series 3xxx to buy the rtx 4xxx series that is coming in november, there are other reasons as well like eth merger, meaning eth will crash bitcoin hard.

I think if you bought your GPUs in 2020 or January 2021 you should have made back your money already or simply very close to, for people like this it's better to hold your GPUs and keep mining in bear market, maybe in 2024 mining will be profitable again and you won't have to buy GPU @ 1000$+ again, those who keep their GPU since 2018 are the most lucky, even if they never mined to hold they still make another ROI again when mining became profitable in 2020

You people need to understand that is not nvidia or amd or even if intel get in as well that will make gpus to return to msrp, what will make gpus to return to msrp is simply the second hand market, forget thinking just because nvidia/amd suppy will increase that gpus will return to msrp, the mafia dominates the price, they will keep gpus price high as long as they can, so the reality is gpus will only return to msrp or below msrp when people start selling their gpus below msrp and that will only happen if there is no more profit or a significant negative profit because they still think bitcoin price will rise and they will sell high ehhe aka bulltrap mentality.

Thanks for sharing your recent happenings with mining in 2021. I think it's always the best way to do it in any situation. You need to get the best part of anything and quality type of thing regarding anything. So if you bought quality motherboards and optimized for the GPU, you wouldn't have to face the problem of having broken boards.

Lately I am also thinking of starting a new rig with adding 1 card at a time,not a full one like the one I already have.The reason I was enticed to do so is I found the Asrock H510 Pro which has 6 x16 PcieX slots so this motherboard will give me 0 headaches in configuring it correctly as it will eliminate all those 99 problems coming from a bad riser.If I will start a new rig,I will definitely go with this motherboard at 250 EURO one here in Europe which I think is a great option to start stable rigs.

All those things you mention are correct but I agree more with the B250 board which would have solved a lot of things,I have some Biostars B250 Pro Btc and they still running strong since 2016.

You know that pcie slots also die too right? not at same rate as risers though, the issue about risers are the cables, bad cables might break after sometime and that is bad, although risers nowadays are very good compared to old ones which were garbage hehe, nonetheless, direct connection is always better if all are working well, anyway, about that board, check the buyers reviews https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813162015 , What you can do is, buy one, if is all right then you buy one more and so on, never buy many at once.

We all learn a lot about mining and get our experiences.
After years of mining one of the worst constructed gpus - and its still sold for lots of money -
is the asus tuf 5700 / XT. They have the worst ram cooling i have ever seen.
Still have 3 full rigs of them.... what a nightmare.
