It's maybe a little thing, but there is a huge difference between saying the MP accepts salary in BTC and he receives EUR and then buys BTC.
If the government was sending him bitcoins to pay his salary from its own wallet, I would agree, but this is not the case.
It's like any other citizen that buys BTC when he receives his monthly cheque and logs in to a website to click a "Buy" button.

Are there even any high-profile cases of people receiving salaries in Bitcoin directly? So far it all seemed like stunts to promote some exchanges and payment proxies.

Then again, we know that the dude won't probably be doing this if he's living paycheck to paycheck just like most of us here.

That's a good point, middle class and poor people can't afford to risk with Bitcoin's volatility when it comes to money that they are spending on a daily basis. A 20% slide in price might be "just a dip" for a wealthy person, but it could seriously screw someone who won't be able to meet their monthly bills.

Misleading headline and I believe this was done deliberately to attract attention to it, you can't be paid your salary in Euros and receive it in Bitcoin. The only way he'll become the first MP to receive his salary in BTC is when the Gov pays him directly into his BTC wallet.
A better headline is an European MP buys Bitcoin with his full salary monthly. I don't think that is catchy though.

You got some point there but either way of the two its still catchy in my opinion because he is a politician and not just an ordinary citizen. He can influence the other government employees to do the same thing and if more of them get used on doing it maybe soon they will automatically receive their salary in bitcoin without going to convert them first just to cut the hustle but for now its only one politician doing this and I think they are testing things first, he is giving the option to convert his salary on btc or not depending on the market. That is better so that he can lessen the risk of loosing. It is nice that more good things keeps on coming to btc.

Brussels member of parliament Christophe De Beukelaer became the first European politician to accept his salary into Bitcoin. The MP converted to Bitcoin using the Bit4You (crypto exchange platform). The Belgian MP will convert his monthly salary of EUR 5,500 to Bitcoin. Beukelaer hopes his adaptation will inspire other politicians to show a similar interest in the crypto industry.
He said:
“New York City Mayor Eric Adams has spent three months collecting his Bitcoin salary to make New York the Bitcoin hub. I think it is not too late for Brussels and Belgium to play a leading role in the cryptocurrency industry."

That's a piece of good news and can give an inspiration for those who are still doubting cryptocurrency as an asset class because these people are working with the government that's why their crypto support can tell meanings and I believe it matters because they are from the government itself so I'm hoping that these trends will continue further and spread in all governments around the world if it's possible.

This is good news. Of course, the man won't be paid in Bitcoin by the government. The government doesn't pay in Bitcoin, after all. However, regardless of the fact that it is simply a matter of personal initiative that he converts his salary in Bitcoin, it is still a laudable thing.

The next thing I'd like to know is how he's going to be spending his salary after the conversion.

And also, I'm excited how much he'd be enlightening his peers in the parliament regarding Bitcoin. Will his presence and pro-Bitcoin stance in the parliament amount to something in the adoption of Bitcoin in the country?

This is called flowing with the trend, there is no way he will be an international news worthy candidate if not for the adoption of BTCitcoin and he made international news with his action and a good PR work  Cheesy. I am in the BTCitcoin space for a very long time but there is no way i am going to accept my salary in BTCitcoin. The freedom of when to invest should be on me and for publicity it is a good stunt Cheesy.

this is the best news I have seen about the salary of a parliamentarian in Belgium receiving Bitcoin in his monthly salary, Bitcoin received monthly is equivalent to the value of EUR, this has no effect on the rise and fall of Bitcoin, the same members on this forum who receive payments with $ in Btc.
