Small Summary:
Starting this month, I will try to make a small summary of the merits tree.
It's the second time that @fillippone is in first place of who gave the most merits.
This month two users entered that had not yet appeared in the top20: @qwk @nutildah

Description:
FIRST USER > TOP THREE OF FIRST USER (NO. MERITS RECEIVED FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL) > TOP THREE OF SECOND USERS (NO. MERITS RECEIVED FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL)

I just checked number 20 nutildah and he did roughly 300. Since I only get around 300 merit (150 sMerit) in a month, there will be no way for me to reach the top 20 anytime soon unless I can double my merit gains to 600+/month.

He really gave a lot of merits, compared to those received. If it is not a source of merit, it may have many merits accumulated. 

It will be noted, that he can also give a lot of merits before, but not enough to reach the top20 or had the same number of merits given as another who was in the top and no longer appeared.

It happened to me in the past to merit bomb Hal or Satoshi, but it was more a "once in a while" occurrence, but as a merit source i "penalise" active users not redistributing merits I send to them.

Everyone is free to send merits to whoever she wants, but I think the evidence of these trees is striking.

I reiterate the concept that everyone is free to find their best meriting strategy and I don't want to judge anything.

From my point of view, the first meriting criterion is the effort put into writing a post, hence a post from an active user is worth being merited. And a lot of Hal and Satoshi posts are extremely worth it in this sense.

The second criterion I take into account is the possibility that my sMerits become sMerits again down the "Merits tree".
In this case, I tend to give more merits I know will spend their sMerits.
This is just me.
I don't think sending merits to an inactive user is better, from an aggregate point of view, than letting my merit source sMerits expire.
For sure I am trying my best to exhaust my sMerits allocation every month, as a Merit source I think it is one of my "duties" toward the forum. Again, not using this as a measure of "worthiness".

I will also try to improve the way of filtering, because in some cases, 50 merits may be given to active users, but they do not appear in the list.
They don't appear, because the file only captures the first 3, so the 4th place can be an active user who has also received 50 merits, for example.
I have to study the best way to filter the information, for him to readjust this situation.

I think trees are pretty good right now.
The only filter you could add is that, in case of multiple users with the same amounts of received merits, only the users with a greater number of sent merits should appear.

Take for example @EFS: looks like he sent lots of merits to inactive users: in case he had sent 50 merits also to other active users you should pick, amongst the one who received 50 merits , those who have an higher number of sent merits.
Also @qwz and other users could potentially have a similar “issue”.

I think all of them are merit sources and they have spend quite a big amount of smerits over these months like you can check the stats for the previous month for their smerits and here is list for them all :

But if you are saying about these past 9 days then i will have to look for the same but see how much they have given in the past month only and that's why they are in top merit tree list and we can never match them but you are earning quite lot of merits so you might be able to cope up with them at some point.

Following the request of some users, the tree was readjusted, only for users who sent at least 1 merit throughout the month to appear.
In this way, users who did not submit any merit during the month do not appear in the tree.
