Couldnt find much information, I saw the videos, coindesk posts, etc.. how can i verify that this is actually legit? that what they claim is true?

I was trying to register and they required my SSN and I'm not into that kind of stuff (giving my SSN to everybody)

Anybody has used it?
Have you used a chase saving or chase checking account with it to deposit your bitcoins to your account?

I am not in the US so I can't use it. I am pretty sure it's legit. I mean it got all of the licenses, insurances etc. I don't think they would mess with all this stuff and still be scamming people.

About your SSN, yes. This is the exchange that asks for most of the documents and sensitive informations. I guess that all that crap with BitLicense and all the law makers have asked for this, otherwise they would never get a license.

I do agree with you that's freaky to give someone your SSN. If you don't feel like doing this, just use some alternative.

Cheers!

Gemini exchange, has the Bitlicense of New York financial department, its a very secure exchange, but needs a lot of documents to open an acount. I think its more for institutional inversors.

Gemini volume for the last 24 hours was BTC377. That puts them in 6th place for the USD exchanges, ahead of Kraken but way behind BTC-e. Gemini can probably be ignored until their daily BTC volume gets into mid 4 digits.

Given the fact that it's still very young (just opened) and that it has all the required licences and so on - it's just a matter of time when the real volume is going to
be traded there. It's not easy to take away bitcoin traders loyal to exchanges that they used for years, but it will definitely gain more volume and user base over time.
I'm a bit surprised op didn't hear of them, because Winklevoss brothers held many interviews in regards to it's build and opening.

They verify you like a real site should not via scanning an id and uploading it  Roll Eyes. They will ask you questions similar to running your credit score online (info only you would know). In my opinion, Gemini is the only legitimate exchange to date for USA residents.

Gemini Exchange is backup by New York financial department and it intends to control bitcoin prices just as mtgox but with little difference because they insure depositors funds.

Gemini Exchange is garbage. It may be a useful service if you can get support to respond or verify your identity. 16 days since I submitted request for account. All documents sent that was requested. Numerous message to support via email and facebook. No response. Is this normal for them? If so, I did tell them to deactivate what account I have. If they no respond within a week, they are garbage in my mind.

Guys if this site is not popular 80% that the site is scam so beware about this exchange site so its better to go in other exchange site you can see lots of exchange sites here https://perfectmoney.is/business-partners.html
Just make sure you choose high trust rating so that you are in far places. i already tried there is changer.com that has low conversation rate..
I hope it helps..

The thread has not been updated for a long time, just a message appeared regarding the Gemini exchange and the associated pension fund, which on February 8 was subjected to a hacker attack as a result of which an unknown person withdrew assets from pension savings accounts managed by IRA Financial Trust on the Gemini bitcoin exchange of $36 million in BTC and ETH (according to bloomberg you can read from the archive here: https://archive.fo/Sqn9p ).

And only five days later, the firm reported that all funds were safe. According to the statement, "suspicious activity affected a limited number of customers."

At a *guess* since it was not Gemini accounts in general (at least none have been reported) and just people with IRA Financial I would think that it's on the brokers side.
Now, if there was a custom solution between the 2 then the *fault* might be with Gemini but not the actual vulnerability.

Until the final report comes out or they release more details, it is all just speculation as to what happened.

Didn't know Gemini existed a long time ago. I happen to create an account last year on this exchange to transfer my BAT rewards, when Brave has not introduced their own wallet yet. And they did require KYC before you can use their platform. But what I found out is when you withdraw your BAT, they are not charging any fees unlike Uphold. And now, Brave has their own wallet that you can use.

News has it that the breach took place not on Gemini but on IRA Financial. What was compromised were not Gemini accounts but IRA Financial accounts. Although, IRA Financial's app is directly linked to Gemini such that any IRA Financial user could easily use the app to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum directly from Gemini, the funds will be kept in the user's IRA Financial account. The two platforms have different security systems which are totally independent from each other.

In that case, mentioning the name Gemini in the text of such announcements is a bit harmful to this exchange.
Im glad it's not a Gemini, but on the other hand, it's another hack in the cryptocurrency market. And I have the impression that there are more and more of them. If Gemini were robbed, I would give up hope that any cryptocurrency exchange would ever be safe. Anyway, crypto world still seems to be the wild west.

I thought about doing the same. I can't remember right now, but Gemini was offering a promotion or benefit compared to Uphold, so I went for them to cashout my BAT from Brave browser. However, the KYC process was absurdly complicated, slow and they kept refusing my approval, even though I use the same documents on another platforms without any issues.
In the end I just gave up this exchange and the BATs are still at the browser waiting to be withdrawn...

I did not have an issue with KYC with Gemini, was about the same as all the other US based platforms and exchanges like Coinbase and BitPay.
Had a bit of an issue with a linking a bank account but Gemini actually sorted it out for me before the bank did.

I have used Brave, should probably see how many BAT I have sitting in it.

As it turned out, the theft of funds from the crypto accounts of IRA Financial Trust clients occurred at a time when, due to a false police call, all employees were simply absent from their workplaces during the abduction, and when they returned to the place, they saw that funds were being transferred from accounts, yes, it really looks like someone's deliberate intent was not related to any vulnerability.
