Due to some incompatibility with one or more blocks created on or after 12 July 2022, v1.x versions are apparently incompatible and will fail with

EXCEPTION: 11DbException
Db::put: Cannot allocate memory

The exact cause of the problem is not known, but it's something which has been reported with other blockchains where very old versions are used.

The fix for this is to upgrade to v2.0

At the time of the failure, there were only three known peers on the whole network using v1.x, and one of those has been upgraded to v2.0 which leaves only two of them.

The best possible outcome for Nyancoin is if the Nyan Cat creator once again publicly endorses this project.

While very far from a guarantee, such an endorsement is possible if Nyancoin is handled in a trustworthy manner.

Either way, expect marketing spend after AuxPow is secured.

There is a lot of emotional and financial interest in Nyan Cat.

It does represent 2011 peak internet after all.

Maybe if the creator ever gets involved again, a large fund of Nyancoin can be offered for sale in a campaign where 100% of the proceeds would go to charity or a real good cause.

This way, even if interest in Nyancoin does not pick up, the money went somewhere noble and not insider pockets. The process of the money being put to work could be filmed and documented for the public to engage with.

If on the other hand, interest in Nyancoin/ Nyan Cat NFTs from such a campaign increases, well then its well deserved.

One week remaining

For anyone who hasn't upgraded to v2.3 yet, the new version will disconnect older version peers starting on 11 January 2023 assuming mining is consistent until then.

Please upgrade before then to ensure you can remain connected to the network.


It's still possible to upgrade after that date, however doing so will mean some disruption and in some cases reindexing your blockchain files.
It's far simpler and faster to upgrade before, as that only involves replacing the binary file.

If you are compiling from source, you can compile the new version while the other is still running, then just stop the old version, replace with the new binary and restart immediately.
