I am going to bump this thread for you, even though I don't live in Nigeria.

I find it strange that, with the large Nigerian community on Bitcointalk, no one has commented, although I guess they haven't noticed the thread yet. I guess when they figure it out, it will be a regular discussion thread.

I don't know much about the Nigerian league but I do know that there are quite a few very good Nigerian players playing in various countries in Europe.

I don't know much about the Nigerian league but I do know that there are quite a few very good Nigerian players playing in various countries in Europe.

The league is interesting and very competitive. Legends like Kanu Nwankwo who played for inter Milan, Arsenal, Westbrom from the early 90s to 2006, Jay Jay Okocha of Bolton, Obafemi Martins of inter Milan...the list goes on. These started from the NPL and built their career to the international stage.

Yes Nigeria have a large community members here and having this Nigeria premiere league thread is a welcome development as this will allow us give out analysis and prediction and the league progress, the three is already helpful as it has prompt me to check the league table to see the top 5 clubs with their points.

This is the place to discuss all things connected to Nigeria Premier League. This is the first and only thread for NPFL.

Nice job ops am glad we finally have this thread and this will equally serve as an information ground, I will be a regular visitor to this thread and will be giving out my view as things progress. River United already topping the league table with the 1st position.

The Premier league is called Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

@SatoPrincess, thank you for being this up for discussion, Nigerians are many on this forum but nobody has ever suggested or brought this up before, it would not be bad if we use this single thread for discussing about Nigeria premier league.

The NPFL is made of 20 clubs representing different states in the country. Typically we support our state clubs no matter how badly they play. Guys rep your state and your club. I rep Rivers United!

You are right, each club is made up of each states clubs but there could be exceptions like the MFM FC which belongs to Mountain of Fire Ministry. Just that Nigeria clubs league has not developed up to the extent that we want, but the better our country is, the better we would see more private football clubs in Nigeria.

You should take this back, They are both good, i think they had a chance to play together in a team of which i can recall, could that be Paris ?
But Okocha is good at hes own zone and comparison with Ronaldinho hurts my eyes.
Kanu was quite influential for Arsenal in the old days, i think he deserves all of the praises given to him.
My problem with Jay Jay was being so skillfully great and not winning African best in any way!

Nice initiative, atleast now we have a thread to discuss our own professional football league. We already have one for African and now a dedicated one for just Nigerians. Hopefully this thread stays active because I doubt majority watch the league although I follow up development as a result of constantly listening to radio when driving. When I heard Eyimba weren't having a good season I thought maybe they're just shy of the lead but after checking the table, surprising they're sitting at the 8th position with just 7 wins from 17th games played.

I don't know how Emyimba got this bad for the past 5 years now, they have been struggling to make the top 4, they are currently occupying 7th position on the log, the biggest surprise this season is Rivers United, we narrowly avoided relegation last season and we are already on top of the league this season, we went into the season as underdogs and that really helped ease the pressure to get us the necessary results.

The issue of player salary was addressed a long time ago; we no longer see it on television. The only concern right now is police brutality against our players; there are countless reports on the subject.

I think he is right although Ronaldinho was a youngster when Okocha played with him in PSG. Most of Ronaldinho's skills he learn't from Okocha just that he added some flairs to it. One thing with Okocha is that he didn't win much trophy for Nigerians compared to the name he made in the world of football. Ronaldinho performed better during his career days more than Okocha did in his entire football career. But, in terms of skills I think Okocha is an entertaining footballer like Ronaldinho which leaves me to accept that Ronaldinho copied some skills from Jay Jay Okocha.

In that five years they won in 2019 and still the highest winners in the tournament. Rivers united been my home club, I'm yet to understand what's going on. Them been at the top is truly a surprise, could it be because they're playing brilliantly or others are playing badly. As for the story of Nigerian Soldiers Beating Up Shooting Stars Footballer For Refusing to Leave Restaurant (Video), I don't understand why our law enforcement officer always take advantage of our celebrities to show power. Before now it was the music industry taking the hit but now they have shifted attention to the footballers.

The good news though among all this is the Men's national coach Eguavoen has named 7 NPFL players he wants to invite to Super Eagles’ squad. This is one of the advantages of having a home grown coach they always pick interest in the local league instead of begging foreign based players to come play for the nation.

True Enyimba performance has been poor this season but looking at their stats against Plateau United the match is kinda even to me. In this match Eyimba conceding, that I'm certain of but them scoring is a doubt. Look at the statistics of the top 10, they're the least scorers and have the worse goal difference. They're among the worst clubs in that top 10 hopefully this nightmare stop soon.

I didn't follow up this but in his excuse I believe he wasn't the one incharge. He just picked up from where Gernot Rihr left maybe this were the players made available by the previous coach. Eguavoen was the only coach to have won all three group stages of the AFCON after he previously did the same last time he was incharge. Already he's picking interest in the home based league and probably if he get given enough time he'll build a team that can compete against the likes of senagal for the AFCON.

Niger Tornadoes won Remo Star and moved up away from the relegation zone. I checked the 9th on the table and the club is only having 23 points while clubs with 18 points are among clubs in the relegation zone, I still see it very impossible to know the clubs that will relegate as the league is highly competitive.

I was so much into Kanu Nwakwo. He had a different style of play as if he got no strength in him but hmmm , his dribbling skills no be here oo  . Kanu was so determined to make it in football and he did despite going through heart surgery, he continued playing. His determination made peak milk to run an advertorial , using Kanu as a figure in their product. The Nigerian league has produced loads of wonderful players that have played in top clubs in Europe.

What does he know about football ?
At times people talk out, just to show they're present, what rubbish,now I don't know what I need to do to unsee these shit.
I may not agree with Jay Jay but Kanu was way one of the best talents I have ever seen, I got to learn determination from him.
In the Nigerian history of footballers they're great player also, Celestine Babayaro, Samuel Omokachi etc.

If this is the reason you said both Okocha and Kanu are selfish, I think that is wrong, they are not both selfish, players can decide to continue their career in sport or choose another aspect of profession, we should respect that people have different goals in life. Some people can be very good players but they can lack the knowledge to coach or they are not confident enough for that area as, some people do not like than being players.

A little difficult for me to predict in the Nigerian Football League, some bets I've made have always missed like the Ghana vs. Comoros in January 2022 ago, I thought Ghana could beat the Comoros, it turned out that on the contrary, Ghana was rewarded by the Comoros 3-2.

Of course that doesn't make me give up on betting in the upcoming NPFL league, I will reclaim the 28th next where Ghana will meet Nigeria in the upcoming NPFL league.

For me this time had to hold back and really make a wise decision for Ghana vs. Nigeria, I believe my guess is correct and correct next week.

Totally agree with you, Ghana is striving hard to become greater than Nigeria, not just in sports but also in the movies and music industry, we all know that Nigeria is highly blessed in almost everything, both in entertainment and natural resources, the only problem we have as a country have always been bad leaders/government.
But then, Ghana's frustration and jealousy is understandable, but they should know that Nigeria will always stand out, our super eagles do not disappoint when they are in good form, so i like everyone else urge them to go and make Nigeria proud as always.

NPFL is not the same as the Africa continental tournaments, they are different. NPFL are clubs in Nigeria and not beyond Nigeria. From livescores, this is their next matches:

It would be good if such matches are available on crypto gambling sites but the last time I staked NPFL matches on betting site was one of the Nigeria gambling sites and I lost that day, because home team usually win and was with very small odd but away team won that day as I went for the home team.

It's so strange to hear that Rivers Angels lost in Port Harcourt to Royal Queens. This is Rivers Angels third loss this season, as defending champions much is expected from the club. The players from Warri ( Royal Queens) were coordinated and were the better team today. Franklin Arinze aka Pep Guardiola was on the sidelines shouting instructions to the players. Yesterday game was a case of Rivers United showing class. The real difference between both sides was Rivers United was playing pressing football. Their counter attack game was strong yesterday. Akwa United defense line could not hold their position. The performance of Rivers United has been superlative. Its been a poor result for  Akwa United this season

Am happy Wikki Tourists did not get away with their hooliganism against Enyimba FC of Aba in their match 19 encounter where fans of Wikki attacked Enyimba players in Bauchi at the northern club home ground. The League Management Company LMC has banished Wikki to Kaduna and all their matches will be played behind closed doors with a suspended 3 points deduction and a fine of N4 million. I think the 3 point deduction is small. Something like 10 points would have been okay. This sanction will save Wikki Tourists FC players the severe beating they would be receiving in Aba on April 3 for the second leg fixture because of reprisal attack. Now fans will respect themselves. This sanction came at a good time.

Remo Stars match with Heartland FC billed for tomorrow Saturday April 9, is now shifted to Tuesday April 12 by 4pm. The shift is due to the late arrival of players to the state who could not train today because of the sit at home in the state capital. This is a condemned match for Heartland as a host team with relegation staring at them. This is match they have to win but will that happen? Remo is 4th on the table while Heartland is last 20. It will take alot of hardwork for Heartland to even get a draw. The Naze millionaires will be without their strong midfielder Jimoh Gbadamosi who will be serving 5 yellow card ban. I saw this game today on the internet, and I saw it because I am very interested in the Nigerian soccer league, it is something else, I am currently following many leagues, but the most recent one I prefer to give this time to the Nigerian league than the Argentine league, I It draws a lot of attention because the players have very different attitudes to Latin American football, I dare to say that the Nigerians have a resistance of another level, it is like the Brazilians, the climatic conditions do not allow them to run like that and I admire that, the draw It seemed normal to me, I didn't see it as monotonous, gutbol styles are usually very exciting when you have other styles of play in your mind.

I did not get to see that match live though I read it was a great game. It was the same way relegation threatened Heartland FC of Owerri trashed Akwa United in Owerri in their last match. The Nazi millionaires have been winning their home matches but have not been lucky winning away matches. I foresee them losing this weekend match with Lobi Stars on away. Yesterday, players of Heartland took to demonstration of their unpaid salaries. I hate what the Heartland management is doing to the players who starve to play on the pitch. Sometimes I wish the team will go on relegation but then I know it is the players who will suffer it more as those wicked souls who parade themselves as administrators will move on once the team goes down on relegation. This is wickedness.

Heartland's problem is administrative and not as if the boys can not knock leather. The Coach of the side Erasmus Onuh has really tried for the Naze millionaires but the constant lack of logistics to the team has continued to hinder the progress of the club. The lack of concentration in the camp because of salary owed is not what they need to win their match with fellow relegation threatened Lobi Stars tomorrow. It will be a miracle if Heartland pick a point in that match.

Today's game Rivers Utd - Abia Warriors. It was shocking that Abia warriors scored in the first minute of the game. Rivers United came from behind to win two goals to one. With five games left to play in the season, there are lot of points to pick up before the season ends. Heartland won their match with Kastina United with a goal scored at the closing time of the first half by Chukwudi Nwaodu. The coach of the team, Erasmus Onuh, is no doubt a great coach but it is the administrative team of the club that is making a mess of the club with unpaid allowances and salaries and that is not encouraging to the team. Heartland is on 17th position with 40 points. Kastina Utd are out of relegation on 14th place with 42 points if the league ends this way. Heartland's next match is with Enyimba FC who are on 4th place on June 26. Let us see if Heartland will repeat their constant victories against Enyimba to drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

The level of indiscipline in our local league is incomparable anywhere in the world. And this is because there is no severe punishment to deter both fans and players. Everybody behaves how it pleases them and gets away with it. Do you know that the highest compensation referees get when beaten in our league is N250,000 no matter the level of beating. For every punishment on a club, the league managers get a chunk of the money which is not even more than N2 million if at all they are fined whereas those brutalised get peanuts. As the league is winding up now there are alot of underground match fixing going on. Do not be shocked to see surprising goal scorelines.

The attack on the referee came as a shock to the officials and everyone watching the game. The assistant referee was only doing his job. From the video I have seen, the Dakkada player was clearly onside, and the goal was legitimate by Fifa standard. The referee did not raise his flag or blow a whistle until the assistant referee was punched by Dakkada FC chairman. I think the referee changed his decision out of fear of being attacked by Kano Pillars and their fans. The decision by the referee was made under duress. There is no how they would have escaped from the stadium without injuries.

The NPFL is not a serious league. Yesterday, the Akwa United and Plateau United match was delayed for thirty minutes because the coach of the Super Eagles, Peseiro has not arrived to the stadium. How do you delay a fixture to wait for a spectator? Peseiro was present in yesterday's game as a spectator, the wait was unnecessary.
For Kano Pillars, the club should be punished for bad conduct. Kano Pillars should be made a scapegoat to other teams, and fans who may have that mindset to cause harm to the sport

This is something that's been happening in the league for a while. For Kano Pillars, this has become the norm. NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has failed Nigerian football, he's only interested in the Super Eagles rather in the NPFL and nothing is coming out of it (super eagles). I suggest the LMC give Dakkada the one point from that game, and Kano Pillars should be deducted three points. We all want the improvement of our league to world-class standard.

But it is a shame to hear such stories from a chairman who is supposed to be a role model other young ones coming up.

Back in January, during the game between Dakkada fc and Remo Stars, the assistant coach of Dakkada fc, Sunday Etefia, slapped an assistant referee. As punishment, Dakadda FC was fined 3.5million naira, LMC suspended Sunday Etefia and were close to revoking his coaching license. A fine of three million naira for failure to provide adequate security in the course of the match. Looking back at this decisions by the LMC, I think it is right that Kano Pillars face the same penalty as Dakkada fc did back then..

Heartland FC has become a laughing stock. It is a shame that the Heartland administrators are treating the players that way. Players are owed salaries and are forced to play on empty stomach.

Over the years, I have watched Rivers United become a very formidable team. They have evolved to become an indomitable force in the league. They actually deserved the win because they had the right ingredient every superstar team needed. Truly the CAF Champions League title is just within their grasps if they don't rest on their oars.

Their goalkeeper actually kept 16 clean sheets from what I read online. It is interesting that his club finally won the league title for the season. There is another sad report I read about two first Division clubs in Sierra Leone that had scorelines of 91-1 and 95-0. It is a drama that shows how low match fixing in Africa has gone. That means each minute has a goal. Bad news for sure.

After yesterday's matches, I can confirm that Heartland FC and Kano Pillars have now be relegated even with one match remaining to the end of the season. The last day of the season will unveil the third club that will join them in relegation. What a shame for my darling Heartland. The administrators and handlers killed the club with their greed and corruption.

Rivers State Government and Governor just award Rivers United player's Coach and staff's $20,000 each which is over twelve million Naira. Also, he did promise he was going to double it up that's if they qualify for the upcoming CAF Champions League.
I feel that's a good way to motivate the players and the entire squad for winning the Nigerian Premier League. Also saying they will have a good time at the Real Madrid stadium in Rivers State. Do you also find that funds too much each for them player's ?

Not at all, I think it is good stimulus for the players and the upcoming ones to improve performance, not just football but for other sports as well, as it is a well known fact in 9ja that Rivers state has very big involvement in sports. Wike is quite generous in donations, he has donated amounts bigger than that in the past even for things not as important as incentives for the State team that has done them proud. I hope his generourisity is extended to other sportsmen making the state proud.

The youngest player in the premier league is a Nigeria.

Arsenal’s 15-year-old academy product Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest player ever to appear in a Premier League game after coming on for the final few minutes of the Gunners’ 3-0 win at Brentford on Sunday. 

Nwaneri was included in Arsenal’s matchday squad for the first time and was handed a record-breaking debut by manager Mikel Arteta in injury time at the Gtech Community Stadium. 

At 15 years and 181 days, Nwaneri broke the Premier League’s age mark previously held by Harvey Elliott, who was 16 years and 30 days when he came off the bench for Fulham at Wolves in May 2019. 
He has trained a couple of times with us and I had a feeling yesterday that if the opportunity came I would do it,” Arteta said about putting Nwaneri in the game. “I think it sends a strong message about who we are as a club.
