Power Supply

If anyone could help answer my questions, it would be greatly appreciated,

1) How do you calculate the number of watts needed for your GPUs?  In my case, I want to power two GPUs that require a total of 400 watts. So then do I buy a 500w power supply to cover my needs running at 80% efficiency.

2) If I build my rig with modularity in mind, would it be safe to assume that I need to purchase another 500w power supply to support another two 3060ti GPUs. So on and so forth with every two GPUs '

3) Should I only trust 80 Plus certified power supplies or can I cheap out for a Chinese model?

Be careful here, if your GPUs will consume 400watts, you need more than 500w, because you have CPU, motherboard, ram etc to consider.
Here you can calculate an estimate: https://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/
But if you want to be quick, a 650w gold PSU is good enough to power your 400w GPUs and the rest

2) If I build my rig with modularity in mind, would it be safe to assume that I need to purchase another 500w power supply to support another two 3060ti GPUs. So on and so forth with every two GPUs '

I don't think this is the best idea, if you consider to have more GPUs, I prefer to buy a stronger PSU like 850w or 1000w because usually is cheaper, have more warranty and will be less cables to manage.

3) Should I only trust 80 Plus certified power supplies or can I cheap out for a Chinese model?

The PSU on a rig is probably the most important part, don't be cheap here
Good PSUs like Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic will provide you a better quality to power your entire rig without risks to burn your hardware, and the most important, your safety.
Your rig will be on 24/7, you will leave the rig in your house for example, it's better to have a trusted hardware instead of cheap ones

what is that 2xGPU's you want to power and need 400watts all together

2) If I build my rig with modularity in mind, would it be safe to assume that I need to purchase another 500w power supply to support another two 3060ti GPUs. So on and so forth with every two GPUs '

you mean you have two rtx3060ti already and want to add 2 more rtx 3060ti ?

3) Should I only trust 80 Plus certified power supplies or can I cheap out for a Chinese model?

80plus certified power supply can be made in china also Smiley even from brand names ...

2x3060ti gpu during mining , without proper fine tune , can consume a little bit over 200 watts each  , with the right settings you can push down the power usage to around 100-125 watts/each card
So if you need a psu for 4x3060ti , and you are not familiar with the right power settings , i would suggest you to buy a 1000 watts psu for your 4x3060ti+motherboard+mem+hdd

as someone mentioned before , dont try to save money on PSU , the PSU is very very important in you case Smiley

80 plus certified PSUs are great PSUs for building mining farms, they are more reliable and more efficient to run, if you are to use a 1000 watt 80plus rated PSU make sure you draw only 800watt maximum from the PSU so that the PSU can last longer.

Fsp Hydro 700 watt 80+ power supply. It can give you 560 watts continuously if it works for 24 hours.
Estimated 1 Motherboard + Ram + USB disk + Processor = 150 Watts.
3 x Nvidia 3060 Ti 125 watts = 375 Watts.

This configuration works very smoothly with the algorithm you will use.
If you reduce the power consumption of the cards a little more, you can also connect the 4th gpu.

Consumption of video cards is indicated even with a small margin
https://whattomine.com/gpus

Mining farm 6xRTX 3060 Full Unlock

6*120+100 =820    100w-mobo, etc.
So you need a 900-1000 watt 80 gold power supply.
Don't buy cheap power supplies.

You've got all the answers you seek from other comments on here but I will like to tell you some facts about power supplies.

1. Do not cheap out on Power supplies, ever, because this is what will keep your PC components in check, this will give every corner the right wattage they need without sending a false watt to your GPU, it's very very important to stick with good power supplies no matter what.

2. Once they are dead do not try to repair PSU yourself unless you are qualified personnel it's just better to buy a new PSU instead of repairing it.

3. Do not use more than 80% of every PSU power you own, unless they will give up on you when you least expected.

Some Chinese models work great and some don't. Look at better non-noisy server power supplies.
They are more expensive than Chinese PSUs, but cheaper than good ATX PSUs.I also agree with the advice not to save on buying a power supply.

And here is something not mentioned. No matter how you set your gpus. They occasionally have runaway thermals.

Ie: a 3060ti can suddenly jump from 130 watts to 200 watts.

My new 3090ti in windows jumps over 440 watts when set to 320 watts.

it does it on nicehash and windows.

my other 3090ti in smos has been rock solid at 320 watts.

you mention 3060ti they max to 200 watts each they should be set to about 130 watts

so 1. = 130-200+60 = 190-260 watts
and 2 = 260-400+60 = 320-460 watts
and 3 = 390-600+60= 480-660 watts
and 4 = 520-800+60 = 580-860 watts

to me a quaility psu like corsair rm1000x or better evga 1300 will be good.

this will do four 3060ti maybe five

this will do five 3060ti maybe six

If you want your PSU last, don't use then more than 60% - 70%. (they are more efficient in this range).
Use splitters (pcie) on only risers, leave the good cables from the PSU for the GPUs.

If sound is not a problem get server PSU with the breakboards (with master slave conector, so they sync when power up) they cost like $120 on Mr. Ali right now, including 16 cables.

I don't have good luck with Chinese power supplies, I've bought them twice from different makers I believe and they disappoint, now all my power supplies are Corsair 850 watt, 1200, and 750 watts, they are working very well so far.

I am using this power supply. It hasn't been a problem for years. The only problem is that the fan noise is loud. When you replace this fan with a silent fan, it is a very efficient and trouble-free product. I am very glad that I use fsp in different power products. When you take the product in your hands, the quality of the cable and the weight of the product show you that it is a monster.

This PSU looks like a server PSU I will like to try it out but I can't get this shipped to me since I'm far away in Africa(high shipping fee), the nearest place I can order this from is China, I don't know if I can get one on AliExpress or Alibaba website but I will check it out.

I think it's ATX mining standard
Server PSUs look different

I think that in China you will find many good server options for your mining farm.

The link you provided has some very good power supplies. I converted and used the outputs of old used server power supplies with the cables I got from the faulty power supplies. Server power supplies are also very efficient products and are very inexpensive. Only the cooling system is very noisy. Fans need to be replaced with silent fans.

1. Get down to any electronic store around you and buy a wattmeter for reading the exact wattage your rig is consuming.
2. Always buy a higher PSU this will erase the idea of using two PSU or a Add2psu adapter in future, you can add a few more GPUs without the need of buying another PSU.
3. 80+ rated PSU are more efficiency, go with Corsair.

https://www.fsplifestyle.com/tr/product/cannon1300w.html

I am using this power supply. It hasn't been a problem for years. The only problem is that the fan noise is loud. When you replace this fan with a silent fan, it is a very efficient and trouble-free product. I am very glad that I use for in different power products.
Server PSUs look different
https://www.parallelminer.com/product/hp-1200w-platinum-power-supply-110-240v-gpu-mining-psu/

No need to change the fans on the server power supply, because you risk overheating the transistors and breaking the PSU. For a home, a balcony, it is better to choose quiet ATX PSUs, if you have a separate room and a lot of video cards, then noise is no longer a problem and you can use server PSUs.

You can buy cheap ssds rams but not cheap psu.techpowerup there is many reviews of psu, read them and you will have alot information. It means not all expensive psu are best there is good psu for good prices as well. It doesnt mean if its written evga it is best look at tests you can find some fsp psu performing good as evga too.

Buying a 500w power supply for two GPUs that require 400 watts total sounds as it would work, but I would recommend going with a higher wattage power supply to give yourself more headroom. If you're building with modularity in mind, you'll need to consider the power consumption of any additional components you plan to add. You'll also want to make sure that the power supply you buy has enough PCIe power connectors to support all of your GPUs.
500w power supply is an office power supply, and as a rule there is one 8-pin connector. An 8-pin connector can pass power up to 288 watts, respectively, 2 connectors for 500-600 watts are difficult to use.
And now the market is full of ATX and server blocks at a cheap price.

I have run about 6 Nvidias Gtx 1050 ti without connectors that took power from the motherboard with just a Be Quiet Dark Power 550 watt while I have run 2 x Rx 580 8GB with a Corsair 500 watt PSU,meaning that the best options for the mining rig of 3060 ti-s should be a 1300 Evga power supply which will run them smoothly without burden on the PSU and they make some of the best quality power supplies out there, they to some models go much further offering a 10 year warranty (don't know if they still do this but they used to do this a lot).

This power supply can run up to 8 cards with burden,I mean it will be using about 85-95% of all power and it will constrain the PSU but I know this runs such cards and 8 of these near 500 Mhsh a considerable amount for just a mining rig I would say.

No need to try and find other power supplies as the price difference will be small but the quality leap will be big if you get the wrong one.
