Was at the office when a message pop on my Facebook messenger saying he is dewi from Indonesia that he is  interested in buying BTC worth $2000 I ask him why not buy through the wallet he is using, he said the wallet is not yet verified, I asked him again which wallet he is using he replied Binance, I smiled, I also asked him why did he think buying online is better he said because no kyc or verification need online and I ask him are you ready to risk it he boldly tell me yes. To cut the story short he was persuading me to send the BTC first before he make payment which I refuse, he even told me to send half of the BTC which he will make full payment  after I confirm payment i send the remaining BTC I also refuse, then he said he's going to send me $300 worth of  Etherume to show me how serious he is, I sent him my Etherume wallet and he made a deposit of $300 worth of Etherume. at the moment it was time for my presentation at the office so I went offline after the presentation I came online, I was seeing all sorts of pidgin local Nigeria insultive words.
that caught my attention how can an Indonesia citizen speak and write a pigeon local Nigeria insultive words then I decided not to refund him his Etherume for him to feel how others feel when they are being scammed.

Note__ scammers can go extra mile even by sending you money first in order to achieve what they need.

I have one question am I a scammer too or did I do  wrong by not sending him his Etherume back because after this incident my conscience has been beating me.
 stay safe.

It all boils down to how sure you are that he is a scammer. If you are 100% sure that he's a scammer then there's no need of feeling guilty.
But if an Indonesian is speaking Nigerian that doesn't mean he's a scammer. People can speak different languages. I can speak 3 different languages as well.
Also, if you are using the money you received from that person for your own benefit then it's probably a bad thing.
You should consider one of the below options

1. Send the amount back to the person by researching more about him or ask him for his ID verification or video verification if he wants the money back
2. Donate the amount to charity

What can I say, if it’s not mine to begin with, then it’s not mine to keep. The person you interacted may well be a scammer, although the depiction of events just points to the possibility, but not to the certainty.

I recall a case where someone from my local board outsmarted a likely scammer (loan related), and initially was set to keep the small amount of funds to teach him a lesson. Both accounts were red tagged on the forum, and eventually, the outsmarter sent the funds back and was left with just a neutral tag related to the matter.

The above here is not to illustrate the Trust implications, but rather more that, despite it being a likely scam, people were rather more lenient towards returning the funds regardless. I adhere.

This might be true, this might be framed up for what ? Post or merit's, but then my hunches telling me they are not true.
Like a Pawanjain said, people can now speak multi-languages.
It's best you Donate the funds you have to a charity else you're nothing but the scammer here, your topic also says you're a scammer " Scammer gets Scammed"
I'd love to see a screenshot though, but it's all fine and dandy if you don't!

Advice
Scammer's try to gain your trust, the above shows he was sent Ethereum to he's Ethereum wallet,so  ensure you don't fall for this, they gain your trust by showing how real they're, also by sending funds first.
Share whatever you're bothered about with a friend or report to the nearest Police Station.
I'm Nigerian and i'm vexed whenever I hear talks about scamming. Y'all take caution and be careful.

Scammers intentionally act stupid at times just to wake up the greed in you, as the game goes on you will start feeling like you are the smart one here but they are only pulling your leg to force you to take a step, now that you sensed that he is a scammer you need some prove just to be sure that you are dealing with a scammer, ask him for ID, national ID or Drivers license then the truth will be revealed.

If I understand correctly, you have not fulfilled your obligations.
What difference does it make in what language he cursed you, and from what country did he introduce himself to you? It's the internet, and it can tell you it's from Mars. Another point is that you left without warning him and without fulfilling your part of the contract.
What to call you, if not a scammer? How are you different from him? Return his money, and sleep well, otherwise, this is the most common scam.

Your behavior is a good indicator for the forum that you cannot be trusted!

It really could be a scammer. What if he really just wanted to buy bitcoins?
It turns out that you tricked him.

What if this person is really being verified?
I would advise you to contact him and,if possible, give him his money back.
If you are sure he is not a scammer,of course.

Who was this Dewi guy that just messaged you out of nowhere and have been straight forward to you to buy or trade bitcoins? If he's a total stranger and even we're having the same interest about cryptocurrencies, I have already ignored him.
I guess you have already the idea on what he's about to do or you're too suspicious with it. If the trade didn't go well, it's much better to send back the funds to him if you have no intention to deal with him. And about the nationality, anyone can be good at many languages at the same time, I've seen a lot of them.

I think you should return the funds after the full verification and if it doesn't work. You should donate the funds to any helpful charity. I will prefer to send back to him.

"Scammer gets scammed" title tells me you already gloating at your achievement. I took a look at your post history, you talk a lot about scams. I think this story is a made up story like the others because it doesn't make sense. Your Facebook profile has to indicate something relating to crypto (like a crypto trader) for someone to message you out of the blue making such request but your story of "outsmarting" a "scammer" is true then you betrayed this stranger's trust. There was no escrow used, it was just your word given and yet you left in the middle of a transaction (after payment has been made) for a meeting. I think all is in order if he decides to call you a scammer. I suggest you send him his 300$ worth of eth.

Scamming a scammer doesn't make you a more better person than he or she ever was. After all, thieves steal from thieves and in the end, they are all thieves. If you take a good look at your topic, you would not that, you saying, you scammed a scammer implies that, you are the scammer in this incident. Why? Because your the perpetrator of the act of scamming.

Not honouring a deal.
Even a scammer has the right to some legitimate business. You might have walked out on a deal in progress for some good reason and you don't have to blame the other party for being throwing you with insults because, he or she is sure to have been waiting on your part to honour your deal.

It feels so bad that scams do exist and by all means they should be punished for there acts but, your not entirely sure this individual meant to scam you. The least you could do is, to send him BTC worth the amount of Ethereum that was deposited on your address. You build the trust and keep it up that way.

Yeah, a scammer tries to build trust and with you being aware, you never get to stay the part of deposit before sending your precious Sats. That way, you never get to risk more than  you can afford.

To cut the story short he was persuading me to send the BTC first before he make payment which I refuse, he even told me to send half of the BTC which he will make full payment  after I confirm payment i send the remaining BTC I also refuse,

this could have been your ever worst mistake should in case you give in by sending first.

Note__ scammers can go extra mile even by sending you money first in order to achieve what they need.

That is their new strategy used in scamming people nowadays, some will send you huge amount of voucher just to convinced you because i have also witness such, they first take the risk to send you little to get the big catch but lucky enough, this time the scammer fall a victim.

I have one question am I a scammer too or did I do  wrong by not sending him his Etherume back because after this incident my conscience has been beating me.
 stay safe.

Remember you asked him before the whole transaction begins the is he ready to risk it and he replied yes, he dug the pit for you but ended up falling into it, but if your conscience isn't at peace as you said, then return back the coins and thought him a lesson never to try such again.

Is it ok to steal from a thief?!.. I believe we all agree that it's not.
The same applies here, this is not your money and the right thing to do is to send it back.
Moreover, you have no proof that this person is actually a scammer or was planning to scam you aside from your assumptions.
The only case, in my opinion, where it would be ok to keep that money is if that person scammed you before and you outsmarted him to get your money back.

I like to operate on the basis that someone is innocent before proven guilty, so I wouldn't ever be in this situation. Judging by the way you're writing there's no real hard evidence he was a scammer. Remember, a likely scammer isn't the same as a scammer, you need to have proof of it. Even then, I don't particularly agree with taking a eye for an eye.

The thing is there's a very real risk of you scamming someone who gave all the red flags under the sun, but were actually innocent.

Your behavior is a good indicator for the forum that you cannot be trusted!
OP still has the opportunity to return the Bitcoin, and put it down to bad judgement. Whether they do that or not is something that'll prove whether they can't be trusted. The impulse wasn't exactly great, I agree.

The OP has every right to preempt the actions of the person he was in interaction with. As humans, we all should've that feeler which alerts us that something could be wrong. It's called instinct. However, we should also take into cognizance that instinct shouldn't be taken as an absolute without basics which should encompass giving someone the benefit of the doubt. There's a reason the expression, "Don't judge a book by its cover" exists.

So, the person you suspected wanted to scam you eventually sent you $300 worth of ETH and you withheld it without sending any Bitcoin? You should've sent them Bitcoin that was equivalent of what they sent you. And if he was more interested both of you would've continued on that arrangement until the needed $2000 they wanted was met. Not sending them anything back isn't what you should be proud of.

From your story OP, you seem the scammer here. Don't count yourself smart.

You don't know that he is a scammer, but either way -- He sent you $300, so you should send him $300 in Bitcoin (minus whatever fee you agreed on) to show that you are trustworthy.

Op, you are the scammer here and you risk a chance of being tagged if you do not return the said $300 with an evidence.

1. Even if it's a made up story, I'm sorry you could be tagged.
2. Even if it's a real story, scammers don't go around messaging everyone on Facebook that they want to buy bitcoin anonymously. It could be that you have in your Facebook profile that you buy and sell bitcoin at affordable price.
3. Again, you didn't use escrow and went offline immediately you received payment.

Also, in your post you indirectly tarnished the image of Nigerians.

Now that is a very good point. So in a way, OP is agreeing that he is the scammer himself.
@Dillonhebist still has the time to show that he's not a scammer by returning the money to that person.
But otherwise, it would create a very bad image for him on this forum and may be he might get tagged as well.
I hope OP returns the money at the earliest and shares the proof here for the tx id as well screenshot of the chat.

After posting this thread (scammer get scammed) yesterday, I chatted him up telling him to send me proof of identity threatening him that is only way he can get his fund back but he couldn't prove it he didn't send me any, I even tried calling him video calls but he couldn't pick up, but do you guys know the funniest part of it he even called me with a Nigeria phone number but I returned his Etherume yesterday because I believe that anyone who keeps what belongs to a thief is also a thief and I don't want to be path of that word.
Thank you guys for your contribution and advice.

<…>
Do you mean proof of ownership or proof of identity (which is what you stated)? The latter would mean doxing himself, which I figure was the product bypass intent, though it is extremely unlikely that the counterpart would do, as was the case. Anyhow, you returned the funds, which is the ethical thing to do.

If you read my threads  before replying you will understand what I have written.
I said proof of identity to be sure if I'm chatting with the same person I'm seeing on Facebook profile

You have his money. Why would you be asking for proof of identity before sending it back? It’s not a case of a lost and found wallet. I hope you are saying the truth and did return his money? I would expect you would attach a screenshot of your conversation as proof. Btw out of curiosity, since this was a crypto transaction, can you add a transaction id of the $300 so we all can confirm.

if I really want to go away with the money I wouldn't have post this thread secondly I don't know how to post images I would love to proof and clear all doubts.

But to be honest with you guys I refund his Etherume not because I want to clear myself to you guys but because of my conscience. And I also believe what you did to others also comes back to you. I never want to be the reason why anybody cries.

Let's make a general conclusion. OP, you are a good storyteller. But if you put this story into reality, I want to add, since I see that you are quite young, take this as advice. No one is obliged to show you their documents, just like you. Who are you? What will you do with them in case of fraud? After all, your opponent can send you fake documents, and then what? Will it satisfy you?
Then, lie number two. You can't open a link on a mobile phone, a link to a forum, while you write that you are accessing the forum from a mobile phone?
I know one thing, this is not your first account, and you started badly. Forum doesn't like lies. Soon you will be convinced of this.

I was wondering how good Op can lie. I thought if maybe SatoPrincess sent a broken link, I had to click the link and it opened.
My advice to op is, if he/she has chosen the path of lies and fictions, he shouldn't relate his story to scam. Maybe he could lie with his life stories which no one would be interested to investigate.

Probably OP is looking to grow his merit count by proving his honesty maybe after getting inspired from EZ0010, Wink

I will be happy if a scammer got scammed but what I can do js to spend the money come from the scammer side to someone who is in need like homeless kids meal or something like that.

I know one thing, this is not your first account, and you started badly. Forum doesn't like lies. Soon you will be convinced of this.
I really wish you didn't have to give him or her any credit for this (@being a good story teller) as it was so cranky right from the beginning. OP even put himself or herself in a pit that would take proof in monetary terms to dig out from and I'll point it out. All OP has said so far is just theory without any transaction ID to verify if any of such transaction took place, no discussion update and being someone that works in an office, leads in a presentation, you should be in possession of some suffisticated device to see these through but in the end, we get just stories, stories that tends to divert attention from the obvious.

This should be an eye opener to beginners out there trying to come up with some story probably to earn merit, admiration for being smart maybe to own a busy thread. It could go south at times. We might live in different worlds and it might be difficult to decipher what is a lie and true but, users on the forum aren't fools. We might as well enjoy a good story but, this one was out of the box.

I'll end by saying @OP,  don't be the scammer you claim to detest! I don't see how you would hold back on a deal and later ask for identity documents without a proper means of verifying if it could be faked or not and you expect a stranger to hand it over. For all the stranger knows, you could back out still with his money and documents. The very thing the stranger was avoiding from using the listed exchange in your conversation. Scamming a scammer doesn't put you at right, it makes you the scammer!

Bad Joke!!!

No need to upload images and you don't have to prove anything as long as the scond party (the scammer) does not show up and start accusing you of withholding his money. Even in that case, tou can prove you sent his money back by providing the transactions IDs instead of images that can be faked.
Anyway, good to know you sent the money back. Next time, if you believe someone is a scammer just block him and don't waste your/his time.

For whatever reason, If you decided not to return the ethereum, I cant trust you either and does not prevent members of the forum to put negative trust on you. Two wrongs to make a right. How did u get to know he is a Nigeria? many African countries share this pidgin pattern that u may not be able to differentiate by writing.

You are simply trying to scam a scammer and behold, that money that he sent you must be from another victim too, taking such money is a blood money you are simply just like him, even if he can't prove that he isn't a scammer I would still send it back or call the police and tell them what happened, I will never eat such money.

I think you should return the funds after the full verification and if it doesn't work. You should donate the funds to any helpful charity. I will prefer to send back to him.

If I were in the OP's shoes, I'll send the full amount back because I don't want to be a part of this "developing mess" without hesitation. You know why? Reputation and integrity to our names are much more expensive and valuable than the bank accounts or crypto portfolio we have nowadays.

And of course when a stranger wants to buy Bitcoin directly from me instead of an exchange or wallet, I am not comfortable with it unless he or she is my close friend whom I really trusted for a long time.

...I sent him my Etherume wallet and he made a deposit of $300 worth of Etherume. at the moment it was time for my presentation at the office so I went offline after the presentation I came online, I was seeing all sorts of pidgin local Nigeria insultive words...
If he/she is an exact scammer, it means that you're right, scammers will do anything to scam the victims, to ensure that they are real and not scammers. This may be one of the ways how they work. But, this is only probability. related to he is an Indonesia originally or not, it may be also a part of how they work. they may be disguised as anyone and any person, especially nowadays there are many tools and assistance to support their disguise.

But, aside from he is scammer or not, I do agree with these:
1. Send the amount back to the person by researching more about him or ask him for his ID verification or video verification if he wants the money back
2. Donate the amount to charity
The money is not yours, so If I were you, I will not keep the money to myself.  Smiley

You'll be a great story writer if you do get a job from Hollywood.
Don't come here saying shit about Nigeria with no proper proof.
I know you'll be looking for a way to frame this up, why not cut the crap ?
Deal he is a scammer, so could you send him back he's money ?

if I really want to go away with the money I wouldn't have post this thread secondly I don't know how to post images I would love to proof and clear all doubts.

But to be honest with you guys I refund his Etherume not because I want to clear myself to you guys but because of my conscience. And I also believe what you did to others also comes back to you. I never want to be the reason why anybody cries.

see let me inform you, you can send the proof here if really you have return the funds, posting image is not only option to clarify yourself, because you know very well that you can't post image pictures that is while you are making reference of image posting as excuse, you can as well give us the link and the link will clarify your doubt and everyone who is interested can click to view exactly what you are claiming to be.

I have one question am I a scammer too or did I do  wrong by not sending him his Etherume back because after this incident my conscience has been beating me.
 stay safe.

Yes, you are the other guy must have a good motive when sending you he just wants to trade unless you have a proof that he is indeed a scammer by reading one bad report about him, in the first place if you think the guy is a scammer you should not entertain him.
Free yourself by refunding him you don't want to get tagged as a scammer, this guy has a reason to create a bad report about you for running away with his money, and your suspicion is not justified to scam him.

Fraud with a mode like this is often encountered. but I don't think it's that easy to believe that he's a swindler. I think need further research or verification first.
but if it turns out to be a fraud. I think it can be a lesson for him. and hopefully he gets tired of it.
and I'm worried about you I worry if the person is not a fraud. and he felt cheated. then I'm afraid he will report you to the court. I think there should be more research.

In the first place, How would you know that he is a scammer? Because in that situation, it turns out that you are a scammer, you're making a deal with someone who even sends you first. It is never an excuse if it is the time of your presentation, for sure there is a time for you to reply to him and make him aware of your situation.

It was a big mistake to trust strangers but if you are not really a scammer, you will send back his money and clear your reputation. Feel your conscience and do what is the best thing to do, for sure you know it and to prove that you are not a scammer.

A Nigerian guy trying to guy a Nigerian guy goes wrong. He got flamed up when his plans didn't work.
Is the scammer truly aware that you are a Nigerian before sending his Ethereum or telling you about crypto? Cause average Nigeria guy doesn't fall for scams easily. The mind of the scammer was to send you his Ethereum to gain your trust forgetting that Nigerians don't trust people easily when it comes to matters relating to money.
You did well by sending him back his Ethereum, to let him know that you can't make a living by going around scamming people's hard-earned money

Scamming a scammer Smiley I can only smile at your story. In fact, what I've experienced in this space of unknown strangers trying to reach out for the purpose of exchange makes me default to them as scammers. But in the case OP is talking about, you're also playing a scammer here. It's not fun to talk about. I have also encountered some situations when borrowing money, and when they can't fulfill their purpose, they are ready to utter vulgar words, but it is pitiful for such people to know no other way to survive than to cheat life. It is natural to be wary, but I have also advised them to change to live a better life so that they do not cheat anyone more.

This story so far is really confusing. I currently can't even see who's the actual scammer here, cause from the start the OP didn't put up this story in the expected direction and on the other hand, even the accused haven't come up yo debunk the story.

The forensics are not yet clear.

if I really want to go away with the money I wouldn't have post this thread secondly I don't know how to post images I would love to proof and clear all doubts.

I do not pass judgement on you. You can use upload the images on https://imgur.com/ and paste the link here. There are plenty guides on how to post images on BitcoinTalk https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3974517
The link you gave me is not opening on my phone secondly I don't use computer or laptop what I make use of is cellphone. And that brings me to the question can't someone upload images with cellphone.

You can also use the website https://imgbb.com on your smartphone and upload the screenshot here and then share the link.
Also, you can send us the ethereum transaction id so that we can verify you had sent the address on that address.
Show us that screenshot where the user has sent you the wallet address and then the ETH tx id where you have sent amount to that address.
This will prove that you have really sent the funds back to that user.

I don't understand your stories because it seems to be untrue  to me, from your topic it tells you are a scammer. What he knows as a scammer you know better for you to have proceed with the transaction knowing that he is a scammer right from the beginning of the conversation, for you to have succeeded in collecting his money and you didn't return what was supposed to go to defines who you are.

What I think about this story it is either the story is not real, or if truly it is real collecting what does not belongs to you automatically makes you a scammer.

The guy maybe has no second thought about doing that they have no mercy for scamming their players so the manager also has no mercy for scamming a scammer, but the bad thing is they will continue to scam people because they need more money to sustain their operation and the money that was scammed to them.

First of all, in the it’s legally said a man is innocent until proven guilty, no matter the circumstances, so you don’t judge someone because of the scenario was pointing something to you, although I would agree with other that thinks this story is made up, OP didn’t think this through, probably thought we all would be happy that he dealt with in his thoughts a potential scammer.
But if this case was to be true and at this point I would pretend it is, you holding the said fund sent to you make you what you suspected him to be, in the first place why that scam moves gets people is that, those people also has plans of scamming the person asking to send funds or crypto to them. It best you shun the person and reject the offer from the beginning.

~snip~

I have one question am I a scammer too or did I do  wrong by not sending him his Etherume back because after this incident my conscience has been beating me.
 stay safe.
There is too little information about whether that person is a scammer. You need to try to find out more about him and his intentions. It is possible that he is not a scammer at all, and then it will be very sad if you don't return his money to him. If you have ever been deceived, then it is not for me to tell you how unpleasant it is.

Was at the office when a message pop on my Facebook messenger
Have you ever wondered why he contacted you? What were the prerequisites for this in your FB?

There are so many scammers with different modes, if the story is true then I think he is too predictable for a scammer because there are also scammers who have good and well-organized modes so many are deceived. that's the importance of having knowledge so that we are not easily provoked by the seduction of scammers with that attractive offer. if it says whether you are the same as the fraudster, then I think it would be better if you left it at the beginning without having to talk further if you feel there were indications of fraud. so you will not be burdened with the question of whether your behavior is also the same as the fraudster or not. so I think just do what has to be done and avoid things that could be detrimental.

if I really want to go away with the money I wouldn't have post this thread secondly I don't know how to post images I would love to proof and clear all doubts.

But to be honest with you guys I refund his Etherume not because I want to clear myself to you guys but because of my conscience. And I also believe what you did to others also comes back to you. I never want to be the reason why anybody cries.

well... you've done the right thing. and I am proud of your actions. indeed with you posting and creating threads here I think you have no reason to run with the money. and you're just asking for advice from friends here.

yeah that's right. In this world there is a law of reciprocity. what we sow is what we harvest. Every action has its own consequences. and you have done right and good.

If you didnt return his money then that makes you scammer too. Its not right to keep the money that is not yours and its not necessary to ask for verification before you return it since you know better the money came from him. BTW, are you certain he is a scammer? Or its just what you think because he messaged you first?

But to be honest with you guys I refund his Etherume not because I want to clear myself to you guys but because of my conscience. And I also believe what you did to others also comes back to you. I never want to be the reason why anybody cries.
Good decision. Regardless how bad the person is, dont make yourself similar to him.

but do you guys know the funniest part of it he even called me with a Nigeria phone number but I returned his Etherume yesterday because I believe that anyone who keeps what belongs to a thief is also a thief and I don't want to be path of that word.
You chatted with someone and had their funds and you're asking for their identity before you could send back their money? You're unbelievable and I think your story is beginning not to add up. I hope you aren't out to tarnish the image of Nigeria here. I challenge you to provide the forum the etherscan of that transaction since you said you sent the alleged scammer back their cash. Failure to provide us with the tx id will only mean that you merely targeted a particular country to spread falsehood and then lied through your teeth to achieve that. You could get tagged for that, you know.

Being him a scammer or not, he fulfilled is part of business so you should also do the same. I don't see why you keeping his coin and also is cash with you, holding up your part of business shows you can't be trusted. You can't send someone money to charity, pay him his money or return is coins to him

I just hope that this would be just another made up story, since you don't know how does it feel to get your funds held by someone even though you mentioned already that you returned the ETH.
People can be bilingual or that dude could have been just residing for now in Indonesia.
If I start living in Japan and I speak other languages, I hope you would not be the one that I would talk to.

It's very obvious that op is scammers since he has no evidence to prove, it just saying blah blah, when looking at his speech it seems like formulated statement thinking the formulated statement people will label him as a credible fellow, because many people has asked him to provisions of prove and yet it still beating around the bush

It is so funny that that you agreed to the fact that you scammed someone and you are bold to narrate your it. I will advice you that if you can get to the person it is better you send back is money, if you are not able to reach him you can give it out to a charity organisation just for your conscience to be clear and have peace of mind.

I hope this is not one of those numerous fabricated stories that Bitcointalk users frame up just to earn merits. If your claims are genuine why not provide a screenshot of your conversation. I believe anyone can learn any language. I have had foreign friends who speak the Nigerian pigin dialet fluently. Stereotyping this region is not called for at all and by the way you should ensure you refund back the Ethereum to avoid bringing bad image to your self

You, had something smell it and I would say, OP put himself as a scammer in the end. He pretends to be good in here and might ask for some praises but what really OP does is overly think that all the people that have been talked to online are scammers as what I know scammers won't send you first, they are more clever as I can imagine.

If OP has no intention to scam people, he is willing to send it back without asking the identity of the person.

You have to send definitely  him/her that amount of ETH back. After your offline status its normal to think you disappeared and gone. You had to msg to him that you had job to done and after a later you will be come back. So that this would not have led to his aggression.

there are not makes differences who talks in which language. All is human and equals. No one is better o each other. Our status is Human and have to act as human.

First, I know for such case most users mostly upload some proof of discussion and transaction.
Secondly, this story is too fake to be true.
Reasons " why would you just go offline after several discussion with someone who chatted you for help on FB without a notice".
My question; what if you were the one who needs the help and you started all the processes he went through and lastly you sent first and he went offline without your notice don't you think you would also behaved like him?
You don't need to question him for anything rather than returning back his funds even if it was me and I didn't trust him I would only send back to him the amount he sent me.
Then I will only tell him that he gat to pay all the transaction fees via in every single payment I will deduct the fee from the one sending to him if he refused to send all ones.
That would have been the best, he trusted you that was why you were chatted up or asked him to used and escrow account this must from you because he can get his alt account as an escrow.
To cut the long story short. Return back his funds and as well show us txt id that you made a refund this is the only way to show;
1. You are free
2. Isn't a cooked story
3. Transaction refunded.

Note: If all this is not done then you are likely to be called a scammer as well and you should be tag for not being transparent.

First, I know for such case most users mostly upload some proof of discussion and transaction.
Secondly, this story is too fake to be true.
If the story was real I wonder why OP didn't upload transactions and chat conversations between him and the scammer to give proof about is story, it will be hard to believe stories like this. I think it may be cooked story from OP thinking it will make him to be relevant  not knowing that post like this will spoil his reputation in the forum. He still claims he did the right thing by collecting the money of a scammer.

I am interested in discussing the long story above, I noticed that there are several conclusions before you carry out scammer activities and you are free to respond to some of the conclusions below:
1. Responding to messages from anonymous, usually not everyone wants to respond to messages of unknown people for any activity, but you communicate with him even though you are working in the office, even presentation activities are waiting for you, so my assumption is that you often respond from unknown people.
2. The first payment, after dealing with him then he confirms to send half first to get full BTC, so that part is very suspicious if he is a scammer, maybe just your guess. Actually she already sent ETH as agreed but you didn't respond because you were in the presentation room, so how would you feel if you were in Dewi position, would you also tweet Nigerian language.
3. No refund, I know you are angry because of the words that attacked you but note the second point, you ignored it after you went to the presentation room. At the very least you should send BTC with the estimated ETH equivalent sent or refund.
4. But, you didn't confirm whether you have BTC in your wallet/exchange account and no valid proof attached, conversation proof and ETH transaction, so just a fairy tale for the title "Scammer get scammed"!.

You are not sure the person is a scammer he might be correct about what he said, I know scammers are coming up with new ways to cheat people but You keeping the money make you a scammer also because the person may not be a scammer, if you can do what he asked you to do then return his money to him, I hope you return the money to him as you said because if you did not then you are also a scammer. Also we should all be careful and smart because scammers are everywhere looking for how to defraud people.

This is a bad action and in the first place you defaulted on your agreement and that does not speak well of you intention and that make you no different from your victim most probably he may even be innocent, don't get my point wrong because am judging from your line of story and how the whole event went between you both. First why should leave an unfinished deal for a meeting in the office keeping the other person waiting without any words from you, and if you looking for a way to clear your concerns then I will advise you either give a charity arm with the money and get the money refunded back to the sender not minding if he is a scammer or not you have to be careful with people you interact with on social media.

I agree with this. We are not a gang of thieves and highwaymen.

Did he ever send it back?

He should return to him the money even if he just sends it back to the source address where it might not be received due to coming from an exchange.

If the OP has a telegram, and he can receive a message about the mention of his name, I think he will sweat again and remember his act, which he considered heroic.  Grin
I remember this guy on the forum. He was passionate about raising his rank by making up stories. But the forum did not appreciate it. He probably created a new account, since he dishonored this one.
Still, I think that if this story were real, a person like OP would have kept the money. Such is the greed of some people, unfortunately.

I have one question am I a scammer too or did I do  wrong by not sending him his Etherume back because after this incident my conscience has been beating me.
 stay safe.

If the tale is accurate, then I believe he is too predictable to be a con artist because there are numerous con artists with varied tactics, and many people fall for them because they are skilled and well-organized. That is why it is crucial to be knowledgeable in order to avoid being easily aroused by con artists' alluring offer. If it asks whether you are the same as the fraudster, it would probably be best if you just left it at that and didn't continue if you thought there might have been fraud indicators. so that you won't have to worry about whether or not your actions mirror those of the fraudster. hence, I believe just do.

Ops have abandoned this thread since he received the backlash of his life creating this thread, this forum is e
the wrong place to share such an experience of a dishonest act, and as a matter of fact, this guy is the scammer in this case since we don't have the other person here to share his/her side of the story. But from what ops have shared with us here it is justifiable to call his act a scam.

Scammer get scammed

This remind me of what happened in compound last two months or there about. A boy in my compound was drinking in Ogogoro or Ekaikai (gin) and he met a young guy and this my neighbor approached him to learned learn how to scam people and the boy told him he has to buy some devices to kick start the project. so this my neighbor took the boy to a phone shop (store) and bought a new device for the boy. The following day, early morning my neighbor went to work. And the boy who want to teach my neighbor how to scam packed everything in house and ran away, when my neighbor came from work his house empty. And that was the time he become to realized that he has been scammed and he burst into cry. he was crying and saying that he has been scammed then we asked him how did it happened? and he started narrating what conspired (brought) both of them together. After his narration everyone who heard the story left him behind to face his dilemma. That became the saying of the op topic.

Perhaps, it was a common story and it was a very usual thing to happen to realize that we just got scammed too late.
 - Don't easily trust strangers
 - stop being greedy
 - think several times before we decide

However, people even forget all of these things, especially when hearing about money and scammers use this technique to trick greedy people. It was really sorry but it was a need for them also to realize their wrongdoings.

I would say that OP is a scammer too because as far as I can tell and my opinion of how the story goes. OP did received the eth from the victim in $300 worth of ethereum which it is supposedly a down payment to buy BTC and the rest of the payment will be sent too as per statement of the victim and OP did check where the funds that is sent by the victim to OP is reflected on his wallet and decided not to give a refund to the victim. Let's just say that OP won't even spend or touch a single cent of the funds for himself but to spend the money to help others who are really in need of something or he donate the money to a charity still won't change the fact that the he got the money from the person he scam regardless of who or what kind of person that will get scammed.

I agree with the others that he (as what op stated in the post that he is a scammer) deserves it and should know how it feels to get scammed. It's also a good thing that OP shared this story to spread awareness that some scammers can go extra mile just to scam people such as making their target believe that they are even willing to sent money first before the actual scam happen.

This reminded me of the video I watched on YouTube with the same situation where a scammer got scammed and the scammer is also from Indonesia.

If you really want to be safe, don't talk too much to strangers, especially if they send you random messages from the Internet. It is best to ignore them in the first place so that our greed will not rise and we won't have to do anything stupid in the future.
Since there is always a law of cause and effect that exists, never think of fooling someone to get rich, because the retribution will soon come to us after a while.
Make money yourself with your ability, just try your best, all efforts will be rewarded.

If you think of it, the original victims' funds are transferred from the "old" scammer to the "new" scammer.

Doubt he knows or would be willing to return it to the victim(s) since it would be too much of a hassle anyways.
