I guess no one will know except the team who have relations with the project, but my assumptions those casino might didn't get their money's back in the short time. However they got it after they have a good reputation and players who got interested with their promotions. Looking how many bidders in the previous auction thread [1] I think the forum ads promotions is working for them.

I agree as mentioned above that marketing needs to be planned. Otherwise the money goes wasted. It is better to have an experts hands on activity for the task. Most of the time the finance people ( I refer gambling people as finance people ) are not much into the marketing so they would be needing help for sure. So its good to have a marking manager on board to formulate strategies.

Unfortunately for us this is something very common in this market, a service may be running without a problem for a long time and be considered to be honest by the community, so it is not rare for a reputable manager to take on their campaign, but then that service turns into a scam and now the campaign manager finds themselves managing the campaign for a known scam, so we cannot really blame the campaign manager when something like that happens as it is something that it is completely outside of their control.

As for me, experienced and trusted signature campaign managers could handle it better. There are lots of trusted campaign managers on this forum that advertise casino sites and so far most of their projects are successful. This is just like a normal advert like advertising with Google or other social media. Do you really expect to get a turn out immediately but you need to wait for a while when people have trust in such a casino to deposit large amount of fund that will be used for Gambling. The casino admin will have much comments about the turn out of users than the mere signature participants.
