Right, and just imagine him wanted to go as high as Cruiserweight and fight the champion at a catchweight and then Sulaiman readily agreed on it (because it's Canelo Alvarez). But then he settled on Light Heavyweight on Bivol. He could have taken Beterviev, but maybe he thinks that Bivol is the easier of the two, it really backfired on him. So he goes back to 168 lbs now and accepted the long overdue trilogy with GGG to bring his hype back.

Is this a joke? Canelo moving up to Cruiserweight? He already moved from 168 lbs to 175 lbs, to take on Bivol. But Cruiserweight is fucking 200 lbs (please correct me if I am wrong). That is going to be huge. Can anyone move from 175 lbs to 200 lbs in such short time? Even if he manages to do that, I am sure that boxers such as Arsen Goulamirian or Ilunga Makabu will smash him to pulp and thereby end his career. I don't know who is giving him all these crazy ideas. 168-175 lbs is fine for him. He should stay there.

This is probably the result of their thinking that since Canelo is already the king in 160-168 lbs, he needs to go higher and look for another kingdom to conquer. Well that's a normal way of thinking but they should have known better. This is proven by his match against Bivol. I think time's up for him to try going up against a strong opponent in 168-175. He could play in that division but only against smaller, weaker, and aging opponents. Cruiserweight shouldn't even be an option.

We do not know his weight between fights. Maybe he is 190 in everyday life, due to training and camp he burns extra lbs without special cutting to fit in middleweight. As we are in topic Canelo vs GGG, I would say that Canelo does not look small. He is not as tall as GGG, but I cant say he is little; in the fight against Bivol he looked huge. But I agree that going to cruiserweight is a suicide. There, guys only on a weight-ins day are 200lbs, during the fight they are heavier. Speed wont help Canelo in cruiserweight, there, guys are fast also.

There were news actually of this supposedly fight of Canelo going up to CW division. There was a WBC convention late 2021 if I'm not mistaken,

Quote
The WBC approved Canelo‘s request to fight for the cruiserweight title in May or June at their annual convention.

“The WBC has approved unanimously Canelo to fight for the WBC cruiserweight championship of the world,” president Mauricio Sulaiman said

“This is a surprise to me but I’m sure he will continue to make history.”

Ilunga Makabu is the current WBC champion at 200lbs after winning the title last year after Oleksandr Usyk’s step up to heavyweight.

Makabu has a 28-2 record with one of his defeats coming against Tony Bellew, which saw the Brit become WBC cruiserweight champion at Goodison Park in 2016.

https://talksport.com/sport/boxing/983673/canelo-alvarez-cruiserweight-wbc-title-ilunga-makabu-boxing/

But this fight is on a catchweight, but the negotiations fell, then Makabu fought  Thabiso Mchunu, and then Canelo goes and fight Bivol.

He wanted to chase more belts, becoming the first Mexican to have a belt in 5 different weight classes. And his first move to have that kind of feat is to as high Cruiserweight. And maybe they think that  Ilunga Makabu is slow and easy meat for Canelo. But then they change their mind shot for a Bivol Light heavyweight fight for Bivol's belt but failed. But I do agree that perhaps above 168 lbs, Canelo might have a problem, although he shown it already when he fought Kovalev, he won, but it Kovalev was way past his prime already.

Yes, he made it once but like what you just mentioned it's no longer a prime year for Kovalev unlike with Bivol who still young and we have saw what are the dominance he made during their fight, maybe it's better for Canelo to win his fight against GGG again and put good conclusion for this rivalry then move and aimed for another great fighter to earn more money.

It's going to be an exciting fight since both are on a mission to keep their names up from this sport. They both need the win in proving their dominance from this weight division.

LOL.. I can see a lot of posts against Canelo. Being a fan of Golovkin myself, I could agree to many of these posts. Canelo can't be blamed for what the jury did. But in the end, he benefited from it and refused to acknowledge the fact that Golovkin was robbed of a win. And we saw a repeat of that during his fight against Bivol. The only difference was that Bivol completely dominated that fight and despite the fact that the jury tried really hard to score a win for Canelo, it was simply not in their hands.

Canelo has been always on the hot seat since he fought Golovkin twice, many people believed (including me) that the latter was truly robbed of a win and that is also why people and fans are anticipating a trilogy somewhere in 2019 but Canelo stood his ground while saying that he deserved that win and there's no need for a trilogy as it was clear that he dominated Golovkin. Maybe Bivol is his Karma to wake him up that getting help by the judges won't help him that much, and if ever the judges ruled in favor of Canelo that time, I bet there will be issues that the judges and Canelo cannot forget.

I'm thinking that the loss of Canelo to Bivol was a blessing in disguise so the anticipated trilogy was realized. Now, we are going to witness what we are waiting for, so hopefully this time GGG would show the world that he was really robbed in the last two fights against Canelo by beating him.

Shouldn't be a joke if only he managed to beat Dmitry Bivol at the Light HeavyWeight. Nothing wrong with that plan though as long as he knows what he's doing. But prior doing that thing, he should finish and settle the business first against Golovkin next month and probably have a rematch with Bivol at catchweight 175lbs next year before taking into another step.

For me, he should target unifying first the Light Heavyweight titles before he can take on doing some challenges at Cruiserweight. Dmitry Bivol, who holds the WBA Light Heavyweight and Artur Beterbiev, who holds the WBC, IBF and WBP Light Heabyweight are those he needs to take on.

But since "Time Is Gold" for any boxers, maybe there is a mindset that they need to rush things for their goals. However, you are right, a jump from 168 lbs to 200 lbs is somehow risky as that's a new environment to be adopted and adjusted by a boxer. That's a big leap and I don't know if there's a boxer who did that  distant weight step.

Gennadiy Golovkin Needs A Knockout To Beat Canelo Alvarez Says Shawn Porter

Shawn Porter is concerned about GGG's age saying he's not the same as before. That make sense though but that analysis is an obvious one and for me, age can't really considered as a hindrance and really a disadvantage for GGG.

Not stated in the article but I think his conclusion is, there's no way GGG can beat Canelo if the fight will end up in Decision just like the previous results of their fights where it ended up Draw and 1 win for Canelo. The judges might side with Canelo especially if their fight won't be the same as how Canelo-Bivol fight goes where the viewers see that Canelo is really struggling against Bivol.

Either way, I hope that we can see an explosive performance by GGG on this trilogy and don't allow Canelo to have an easy win.

I think this is only for the Canelo vs Bivol prediction, Bivol was really the underdog in that fight and even pro boxers pick Canelo to win, and he should be dominating Bivol.

But going on to this fight, for sure in the beginning we really like Canelo, but when he started to be the cash cow and can get all the things he want, like being tested with PED but he was able to get away with it without any repercussions. Then he become arrogant and brandish and thinks that no one can beat him not even GGG. And it was clear day and night robbery by the jury, in the first fight and then worst on the second. So for us boxing fans, we want to see GGG win with a statement, stoppage/TKO/KO.

Although I never made a bet for the Canelo vs Bivol fight, I never expected Bivol to win. There was so much hype related to Canelo before the match and most of the sportsbooks gave very low odds for Bivol. Everywhere I could read posts claiming that Canelo was unbeatable. And what happened during the match was something entirely different. Bivol completely dominated the match. I watched the highlights, and I don't think that Canelo won a single round out of a total of 12. It was completely one-sided.

Is that so? I thought Canelo will go against Ilunga Makabu that time in cruiserweight and not Sulaiman but decides to back down in light-heavyweight because I'm sure that one of the reasons is that he cannot risk his career in the guys in cruiserweight that is a natural heavy hitter especially if it's Ilunga Makabu.

Canelo was pretty confident though that he can manage to beat the champions in light-heavyweight because he once defeat Sergey Kovalev in the same weight class, he didn't expected Bivol to react that way and frankly, Canelo lost every round and lost his temper in the late rounds that's why we saw Canelo frustrated while carrying Bivol. How much more if Canelo chose Beterbiev that time Grin maybe we will see Canelo knocked out for the first time.

No mate, it's no joke, Canelo and his team really think that they can get as high as Cruiserweight and fight Makabu.

But Hearn, confirmed that it is not going to happened, and Reynoso decided for a Light Heavyweight fight with Bivol. There was even an uproar why the President of WBC Mauricio Sulaiman for allowing him to fight Makabu that time. I guess that is boxing politics that we are talking and the biases that Canelo can get specially from WBC.

Anyway, just 5 weeks from this fight, perhaps the training of this two fighters are really in full swing right now.

Either way, I hope that we can see an explosive performance by GGG on this trilogy and don't allow Canelo to have an easy win.

It's easy said that done, he pointed out the version of GGG 2010-2012 could possibly beat this version of Canelo. And Porter stress out that age factor, that he can't move as he used to be and that he needs to be smart and not throw everything with power.

He mentioned about Bivol's strategy, 1-2-3, if Canelo can dodge the first two shots, then perhaps the 3rd or even 4th shot will hit the target. So its a question on whether GGG can do that, becoming a combination fighter of 1-4 shots in bunch and hope that at least one will land solidly and who knows, it can knock down Canelo or knock him out for good.

The argument that Canelo weighs less during the weight in, and more during the fight is applicable for the Cruiserweight boxers as well. On average, there will be a 25 to 30 lbs difference between Canelo (at this point) and someone like Ilunga Makabu or Jai Opetaia. So Canelo needs to add 10-12 kgs of mass before he ventures to Cruiserweight. I don't know much about this, but can it be done safely within 5-6 months? And I have seen fights involving Makabu and Okolie. They are as fast as anyone in the Light heavyweight division. Canelo won't be having any added advantage.

Had Canelo fought Makabu, they would have faced the same result. Bivol was as high as Makabu but not as heavy. Bivol was also slow but Makabu has longer reach. If Canelo failed against Bivol, he would have failed more against Makabu. But this is already water under the bridge now.

In the meantime, Canelo will have to face GGG and succeed before attempting to rise again and look for more challenging battles. I just hope that GGG will be in his hundred percent condition in the fight to give Canelo a run for his money.

I think it was early this year when the WBC approved Canelo to jump in the cruiserweight and fights WBC champ Ilunga Makabu. It didn't materialized though, maybe there is no money in a Makabu fight or the Canelo team thought it was too big for them.

Yes Canelo is not tall and he also does not have a huge frame but he is damn heavy and solid. 5-6 months should be enough for Canelo to acclimatize in cruiserweight although he cannot stay there for long. Maybe a mission to win a title and when done, he needs to move down once again. Canelo's speed might be enough to outpoint the champions there but the problem is he's got enough power to earn their respect. Otherwise, those cruiser champs will become aggressive and can seriously hurt Canelo, especially WBC champ Makabu.

It's a risk with proper coordination with the supply power that he will throw, we know how strong Canelo and how he can accept punches and simply stand still even a hardiest one landed to his face, though we really can't tell if GGG may able to land solid combo and knock down Canelo or vice versa.

When you aggressively try knocking your opponents off, you also leave and open to yourself. It's possible that a counter combinations
will land in your weak spot and knock you down.

This news made its way back in 2021.  As far as I know Canelo even commented on this news.

Quote
CANELO ALVAREZ admitted he was blindsided by the news he would move up to cruiserweight - and only found out on social media.
source: CRUISE CONTROL ‘I didn’t even know about that’ – Canelo Alvarez was blindsided by move to cruiserweight and found out on social media

But then, offers pile up for cruiserweight fight after that news.  and later on Jan. 2022, another news comes up that weight problem cited as the reason for Canelo to move up  to cruiserweight.  If you think that moving up to cruiserweight is a joke then what do you think of the news[1] about heavyweight as one of the options for Canelo's title run?

This is probably the result of their thinking that since Canelo is already the king in 160-168 lbs, he needs to go higher and look for another kingdom to conquer. Well that's a normal way of thinking but they should have known better. This is proven by his match against Bivol. I think time's up for him to try going up against a strong opponent in 168-175. He could play in that division but only against smaller, weaker, and aging opponents. Cruiserweight shouldn't even be an option.
In this case what you're saying is true, but as @Sithara007 said Cruiserweight is still too high and there's no way he's going to be able to move that fast.
The fact is that there are still some strong boxers in his current class that he hasn't tried and maybe he hasn't even been able to beat, so why should he be so angry with wanting to move to a higher level.

He could play in that division but only against smaller, weaker, and aging opponents. Cruiserweight shouldn't even be an option.

And I think it's all about the power, those guy are natural heavy, so heavy handed as well. It will be something in the catch weight but still it's not a sure thing for Canelo to win at Cruiserweight and yeah, probably the same result, going to be L for him with the big Makabu.

So now, let's just enjoy him and GGG next month, if he get passed GGG and win, let's see if he wanted to go to Light heavyweight again and go after Bivol for a rematch or stay in 168 lbs but there will be no challenges for him.
