All those "super rich elite" clubs just alienate noobs even more about BTC since they think they are the Rothchild equivalent for fiat money.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

But they'll always be with us whether we like it or not. As unsexy as it may seem, you do need some folks with a bit of financial muscle to get things moving.

So... more or less than 500 now? I would guess less. The distribution function continues as volatility rolls on.

I'll guess that the club membership is lower, but the individual stacks of those who remain are becoming increasingly monstrous.

True, but if bitcoin goes 100K a coin in the future if it becomes a global success, those guys will probably be trillonaires or something. Im sure there are people out there holding ridiculous amounts of BTC from the early days. It could lead to a single person having more purchasing power in the history of makind.

1,000,000,000,000/100,000=10,000,000

so none of them will be trillionaires at that price. If bitcoin goes to 1m each, satoshi might become a trillionaire if he has 1m coins like rumoured.

That said, it shouldn't be that surprising, since there was an estimate that there would be 10 trillionaires by 2060 or something.

How many do you think are eligible for the club today? I would think it is far less than 5000 individuals, maybe closer to 500.. Undecided
Let's revisit this during times of despair in the markets. Smiley

I would say less but we did have a few movers
Silk Road coins
Tim Draper
Other groups from the Silk Road Auction
As well as those from the Australian Auction fit the list

300 to 500 is my guess.

There's 712 addresses with 2000 or more bitcoin currently.  549 of these have 2100 or more.

The majority of bitcoin users aren't storing all their coins on one address, but it's also safe to say that many of these addresses are owned by single individuals (Draper, Winkelvoss twins etc).

My random guess is about 400 different groups/individuals. As bitcoin begins to move towards $1000 again, there is going to be a massive psychological barrier for members of this club that have held that amount during prior bubbles. I think in the short term this group will grow smaller before it expands as members sell their coins off to large groups of individuals investing in bitcoin for the first time.

With every bubble people may be very willing to liquidate at least some amount of those coins in order to be 'safe' not to have lost the opportunity to at least keep some of that wealth.

Oh memories...  If only the people who were posting about this topic back then had any idea what would be coming down the line...  As a once member of this club myself, it wasn't as amazing as it now would appear.  Relatively speaking, I was quite poor when I was a member of this club but very much still a believer in Bitcoin's potential.  I think the mistake that I made was thinking there would be more time before the world caught on.  Everything happened so fast that it was difficult to hang onto your BTC and resist the temptation to cash in massive gains, even back when the price was below $100.
