Do real traders care about bear & bull market?

I came across a trader today who mentioned that he hasn't stopped trading even in this period where almost everyone, trader and hodler is trying playing it safe. In our little conversation, one of the statement he used that has stuck to memory and has kept me wondering if I was making the right decision this period playing it safe and not trading was "Real traders don't care about bear or bull market, during times like this is when real traders survive", he also highlighted that a good day trading strategy can still make you profit this season.

Without a doubt you can still make money when the markets are going down as you can short the market and make money that way, however back then when I dedicated a great deal of my time to study the markets I realized the potential profits you can get when shorting the market are very disappointing compared to what you can get when the market is going up, so while you can still obtain profits I do not consider it is worth it, now this may change if you use leverage, but then the risk taken will be very high and that is unacceptable to me.

^Yes, your friend is correct.
You can apply different strategies per every season that comes even if that is bull market or bear market you can apply any strategy. Remember that strategy is only a tool that you can use to predict the market price.
For now since the market has declined massively, you can do spot trading which is moat likely traders use when bear market comes.

Trading is a two way thing so at a point the market will be selling at another point it will buy maybe for short time depending on the trend and so now is bear and if you are able to catch a sell then you can ride it all through, this is the aspect that a trader can make very good profit. The difference between the trends is that at a point, the market will sell for a long time and at another time it will buy short which is the correction of a bear time. For me, Real Traders cares about both markets because at times, Real traders expect bottom to be where bottom isn't suppose to be and it affects there trade. Also vise versa.

Day trading is not easy you need to wait for an opportunity to buy at a low price and sell a little profit when the price rises a bit.
Just like like today as sample image below.



If you bought BTC at around $17k and then sold it at around $19k you already made around 9% to 10% but the problem it is not worth it if you only have a small investment in trading you can only notice your profit if you have big amount of funds in your portfolio. And you should be ready for the price drop and set a stop limit before you lose more profit.

The only difference between a bear and bull market is that you can only get a small profit in a bear market unlike in a bull market you can make more profit and you do not worry about price drops because you HODL and wait for another price rise to cover loses.

I'm not sure he not lying because the price today is very unsafe for trading. I know out there has a professional trader who can make money in dip but it's not much because we know playing short is very dangerous, The trader must know the moving of the chart and can guess exactly when he makes deciding in a second. I have friends still trading today by playing arbitrate and he still gets profit even though is not much of a bullish market.

Correct for me, I know some traders who can prove this, I am updated on their trading life during the bear market and bull markets.
Some also are owning when the bear market, while some others in the bull market.

It doesn't mean once it is a bear market, you cannot make profits, there are short positions or long positions with leverage that can help you.

If you are just a spot trader and long position trader, then bear market is not suit for you.

Let's say, supposing traders where to pay more concern to the bearish market session and stop trading, what would then become of the market?

Not like I expect you to answer that but, trading is meant to go both sessions and I don't think traders stops trading during the bearish market sessions. The bearish market has its own opportunities too and those with the know how, knows just how to exploit it.

Although you can tell that its always very difficult to continue trading in this season, given the kind of emotion that develops and one has to be really careful of the position one choses with the direction or the market not being clear at any point.

Trade makes a profit with fluctuation. For example, with a bearish market situation, you can make a good profit if you sold Bitcoin about 3 months ago at a price of 48k and bought today at a price of 18k. The same scenario applies to me a month ago when the price was about 30k.

I'm still trading myself. I just changed my spot trading to futures trading. in any market conditions, we can still benefit from futures trading. maybe that's what your trading friends do too.

I think a fine point remains that pro traders treat these as just numbers and deal with it that way. Instead of having to think over it, they rather trade based on the numbers and not with the emotions.

For them a bear market is a time to buy and spend the liquid cash for the investment, while the bull market is the time to sell and cover a profit to get back the liquid cash and the difference.

I have myself seen that keeping this mentality saves you from a lot of trouble of anxiety that happens with the market and it makes you a more efficient trader able to take decisions that dont nag you in the course of the market.
