There was a point in the bear market, probably 2018 to early 2020 where there were barely any new good signature campaigns and most short term campaigns that were there would pay as high as ~$40 for Legendary member rank per week AFAIK.It was a very terrible period and I don't wish it to return.

I have got to admit. Hhampuz has been very good at bringing in very good signature campaigns around the forum with very competitive payment rates. At most times, he has been handling over 10 signature campaigns, mostly casinos, but his work is so impressive!!! Some casinos are now well known brands in the crypto industry.
At times, I am tempted to PM him asking how he does all that work week in week out without a break.

Very interesting ups and downs in terms of payment in USD specially the drop that happened after 2018. The market seems to still lack standards with payments being all over the place and still being low considering how much ads normally cost specially when they get so many impressions.

History - signature campaigns and bounties on Bitcointalk
EVOLUTION OF SIGNATURE AD CAMPAIGNS (BEGINNING DAYS TO THE PRESENT)

Two topics from the past, 2018 and 2020 and now 2022 we have your topic. I don't know you searched and referenced these topics for your topic, but if you did get information from them, you should add them to your topic.

I think if we consider payment in BTC, pay rates were higher in the past but if we consider it in USD, pay rates nowadays are higher. It is how Bitcoin and cryptocurrency are adopted more. More companies are successfully created, run and get good income from blockchain and cryptocurrency. They join here and one of their advertisements is signature campaign.

I hope your topic won't attract spammers to join the forum and consider it as their ATM.

At times, I am tempted to PM him asking how he does all that work week in week out without a break.

Just do it. It's not like you'll hurt his feelings by asking. You'll either get an answer or you won't.
This is an example that you can succeed in any field as long as you dedicate enough time and effort. 10 years ago, if you told your parents that you're going to sit at home counting posts on a forum about bitcoin they'd laugh at you and tell you to get a real job.

What always struck me in signature campaigns is how they balance the payments to attract people from first and third world. For someone from Pakistan or Ghana, a $20 a week would look good but you wouldn't get a US or EU citizen to do the job so campaigns have to adjust the payments to make it work. It looks like $50-60 a week is where the demand is at the moment.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the absolute first sig campaign was earlier than 2013.  I remember browsing very old posts, and I stumbled across the thread where the idea to rent out signature space for advertising was floated, and I could swear it was 2011 or thereabouts.  Either way, nine years' worth of data are more than enough to satisfy my curiosity.
The first one is in 2011 but I don't know we can considered it as a signature campaign from a company or only a signature campaign from a member.

[CLOSED] up to 50 people, get paid 0.10 BTC to change your signature
The first idea is 3 months before this one.

The oldest signature campaign from a company is in 2013, PrimeDice
PrimeDice campaign in 2013

It's still a signature campaign, isn't it?  Smiley

Now I am not good with data, if there was opportunity, I could study and get some knowledge about data, statistics or data science. It seems interesting.
I could as well go ahead and check out the impact of the emergence of the OG sig campaign managers (Hhampuz and yahoo62278). Just imagine for a moment, what It would be like in the last 4-5 years without those two guys.

It is due to competition that the payment rates in USD increased in my opinion. Those new ones advertising had to keep up with others to get the good posters otherwise they would have been left with spammers and had their campaign shut down like what happened to yobit.

In fact at one point when BTC when the recent bull market started, members who met the maximum post requirement were recieving close to or more than $500 a week.
I think it was more than that, but I'm 99.9% sure it was at least that, which is nutty to think about.

When DarkStar_ made this announcement:

Effective this week, campaign payments have decreased to $6 USD/post. All other rules remain the same.

Bitcoin price was around $35k.

0.0375 times $34k gives $1312 per week.

Correct me if I am wrong, but looking back it is not surprising to decrease in rates and pay in USD. The price rose steadily in the following months, so that if the change had not occurred, the weekly payment could have almost doubled.

Yeah, it's just not sustainable or practical for companies to keep paying those rates when the value of Bitcoin goes up significantly. I don't think it was all that surprising in the first place (in fact, I was surprised it didn't happen earlier).

Very nice compilation of Bitcointalk Signature Campaigns.  Smiley
I've linked your research in our German local board because it's very interesting.

But one question:

Since you calculated for your statistics only campaigns when they were started as explained here:

So what criteria are you using to select sig campaigns every year?
Because I believe Chipmixer should be representing every year (yet it appears only once) since 2017
I only represent the campaign in a year where it was started, if I do include the campaign into the next year, it will ruin the beginning pay rate of the project want to pay their participants since I calculate with different Bitcoin price. Also it will make a confusion and not good for readers to read a complex calculation. But you're not entirely correct Chipmixer will represented in every year because when they change their pay rate from 0.0375 BTC to $300, if Bitcasino still pay their participants with 0.018 BTC/week, they're the biggest paying campaign now.
Would you be interested to update at least some recent years (starting from 2017) and provide an additional calculation where the most rewarded campaigns are always included (as long a such campaigns were running?). So, Chipmixer would be included from 2017 to 2022 while rewards were lowered from 2021 on.
But I don't know if it would be too much work fo you.

Decision is up to you.  Smiley
