Stacksbowers.com recently had another auction with a number of loaded Casascius coins.

All were graded by PCGS.

There's no announcement on pcgs.com that they are now grading Casascius coins. Curious if grading is open to the public or if this grading was limited to a private collection for the auction.

PCGS is doing all the grading for stacks bowers. The auction you linked was from april. The most recent auction was earlier this month.

No, you may submit coins directly to PCGS. You need to sign up for a membership on their website, complete an online form, print out the completed forms, mail the coin(s) to them... and, voila!

I'm curious, do you trust when they are high value coins?  I have a couple but I haven't had the courage to send them

Might be worth calling them and asking if in-person drop off/pick-up are available
From what I know most/all of them also offer 1/same day grading for this purpose.
ANACS and ICG both offer walk in service if you let them know before hand.

Hi,MJ

which one do you think is a better choice for grading cryptocurrency coins, the PCGS,ANACS or ICG.
it is really problem for the shipping, especially the international shipping, there are still some risk to be considered.

This isn't directed to me, but I sense that ICG is the gold standard these days. I've had very positive experiences with them. Their submission process is straightforward, customer service good, and they have in-house crypto experts to validate the coins.

They do and I have actually helped them once or twice when certain coins come in Cheesy

ANACS no longer grades cryptocurrency themed coins/tokens, but still available for normal numismatic coins

PCGS has just started grading our coins and seems limited right now to larger makers like Casascius, Lealana, BTCC...  but definitely hope the expand

Yes, always a risk when shipping...  even with this pullback to 2017 prices, still a small price to pay for a plane ticket and in-person grading versus worrying about a lost coin in the mail
And now with many countries easing the vaccination requirements, will make it better for certain collectors Smiley

No, sadly. However, I'ts not really a problem I did this out of curiosity versus due to an urgent need. I wanted to learn how long their general service would take and how good it was once I received the coins. I will make a thread to give a report when it all happens.

same. it's very much a personal preference as i know a lot of members here prefer the ICG slab. the wavy edge slab design looks a bit kiddish to me personally but any slab is better than no slab imo.

Just noticed this article...

If you are a member of PCGS, they are able to send you "Rare Coin Market Report" magazine as part of your subscription
I usually just page through it and recycle it, but a new article/section caught my eye.
Think this is a first for PCGS/magazine Cheesy

Apparently PCGS is now grading Casascius bearer bars!!  Cool

https://www.pcgs.com/valueview/bitcoin/2011-100-btc-casascius-gold-bar/203114?sn=903564&h=pop

https://www.pcgs.com/pop/detail/category/203114?l=bitcoin&ccid=203114&sn=903564&pn=1&ps=100

It doesn't state the grade, but looks like from the drop down, that it at least got an "MS" designation:

Im going to the Summer FUN Expo in Orlando later next week. I have a coin I’d love to get graded there.  I’m hoping they will grade it on the spot. I was planning on using ICG, but I’d go with PCGS if they will be there.

Right now only ICG is grading coins, and they are pretty strict about requiring provenance for crypto-tokens dating back to 2014 or earlier.

Can you expand on this?
This would apply to all the Cas coins, and I have had no problem getting them graded nor any other early token
These were graded just 2 weeks ago with zero problem or asking of anything:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5403909.0

Also, PCGS is grading crypto coins right now....and Cas bars!!

i would like to store all my anacs graded coins in one of these boxes but i cant find anything suitable here in germany... Tongue
Especially for DE & EU you'll find all you need for slabs at Safe, Lindner (both high product quality) and Leuchtturm (bigger product range) => I like the Leuchtturm ENCAP system for storing slabs in plastic covers combined with Leuchtturm GRANDE Metallic ring binders and the huge variety of GRANDE plastic sleeves (for coins, cards, letters, magazines,...) to have everything that belongs together in one place. But they all have boxes, too.

Interesting findings of recent Stack's Bowers auctions for comparing grading services:
While ICG graded a BTCC poker chip with an honest "Genuine" https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-WWE17/2016-btcc-5k-bits-poker-chip-0005-bitcoin-btc-loaded-firstbits-1dizuzqv-serial-no-e00639-series-c-clay-composite-39-mm-genu
ANACS gifts a Satori poker chip an unrealistic MS-69 (plastic chips tend to be produced by injection molding or compression molding... no minting => no Mint State^^) https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-WWE1K/2017-satori-poker-chip-0001-bitcoin-btc-loaded-serial-no-34337-plastic-40-mm-ms-69-anacs
I mean, good news to anybody monetizing on collectibles because even PCGS grades pretty much any crypto coin above 63... and again: is a MS-68 grading for a brass Cas coin that came in rolls of 50 realistic when the Sheldon Scale just goes to 70? https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-WWE0L/2013-casascius-1-bitcoin-btc-loaded-firstbits-13enrubt-series-2-brass-285-mm-ms-68-pcgs

edit: ANACS Satori link

Yes it is realistic.
Many "rolls" of Cas have been graded and it has been shown that many of the inner coins receive higher grades.
There have been plenty of MS68 and MS69 brass Casascius coin graded.

I get that. But on a scale of 1-70 where 70 should be reserved for flawless coins that got treated carefully/special from begin on in the mint compared to the MS-68 Cas (that is as good as it can be and therefore earns a relatively high grade, yes, but not in absolute numbers I'd say) and the MS-69 Satori poker chip... and than looking at my own while thinking: mine looks better than the auctioned one but is definitively no 70.

Just a few coins I have are graded: all from this section => THX to those who already are undergoing the hazzle of letting crypto collectibles grade!
Besides conservation of coins it obviously adds the most monetary worth to collectibles when auctioned to FIAT-numismatics on serious platforms.

Which brings me to the very interesting point of having 'bridges' from this section to such platforms (like stacksbowers.com) where trusted/well respected users here (who already sell a substantial part of collectibles graded) not only know which grading service is in best interest for the coin holder and/or the community (that's where the ethics kicks in) but also can organize whole lots of auctions with such an auction-platform for 'wholesales' in behalf of users here, e.g.: 4 times a year => to get best conditions from the auction house while reaching high premiums in the FIAT-world but also raising awareness for the whole crypto-collectibles-sphere on all ends... leading to a better understanding of the crypto-sphere at grading services (and thus in better/more correct results in grading itself) while also having more exposure to interested numismatics... some of you might already be working in this direction deliberately or unconsciously but I believe such 'bridges' could be a pure Win-Win-Win... with just relatively small trade-offs for the community.
But only if done by really well-trusted people because that amount of BTC involved every 3-6 months... some call it opportunity for developing trusted businesses or expanding already established trust from the community to somewhat of a brand while others just see honeypots.

edit: if I remind correctly, instead of 20% in fees to the auction house (stacksbowers.com) the seller got this discounted immediately to 10% just because selling some funded BTC-collectibles in bulk creates the volume justifiying the discount. Splitt this surplus 50/50 to coin holder and 'bridge' (basically an escrow who also gets the coins graded and deals with the auction house) and I'll take it.
