I'm going to be contrarian here and say no, Ethereum will not overtake BTC. I know there are a lot of Ethereum fans on this board, heck, you could almost call it EthereumTalk, but Bitcoin will remain the king for this cycle. It's not because BTC has better tech or anything like that but it's because Ethereum is one of 100 smart contract chains and most of those other chains have better tech than Ethereum does. You see, the merge that everyone is hyping does not scale Ethereum, it merely moves it from POW to POS. The king of Ethereum scaling is Polygon and I forsee Polygon overtaking Ethereum in the near future. DeFi projects on Polygon like MAXX finance and Qi DAO will replace popular DeFi DApps used on Ethereum today.

With PoS coming and Gas fee finally getting fixed do you think that Ethereum is capable of overtaking bitcoin? Oh also there will be max supply for Ethereum finally too, or is this expectation of mine way too high.

With the arrival of PoS, ETH will become more centralized and more susceptible to attack by attackers. That's the price of higher transaction processing speeds and moving away from PoW mining. Is that enough to overtake bitcoin? ETH should take care to keep demand in the blockchain space so that competitors don't get any closer. Bitcoin and ETH have different goals and are not in competition with each other, so the arrival of PoS will not change anything in the balance of power.

Well, it was good to see how ETH makes such a tremendous price trend nowadays but unfortunately, it was not the thing we consider enough to take over BTC and make the number 1. NO, it was not like that and we know that BTC still dominating the market despite all the dumps, even ETH will have its max supply, high demand, price surge, etc...
We have to accept that ETH remains #2 in the CMC and BTC is on top. Nothing could change of it unless if Bitcoin will die, (but I don't think if there is something left on the market).

yes, your expectations are too high because the language you use is not very suitable to be compared between bitcoin and ethereum. Bitcoin and ethereum have their respective advantages but neither of them overtakes or competes with each other. all running according to the network they are using to date. Even though ethreum has now fixed the gas fee issue it doesn't mean it will overtake bitcoin.

Ethereum can't compete with bitcoin, I can confirm that at this time if the price of bitcoin goes down then the price of ethereum will also go down but if the price of ethereum goes down it certainly has no effect on the price of bitcoin.

and now it is evident that at the moment BTC correction of a few percent. and ETH underwent a much deeper correction. so you are right. ETH will always follow bitcoin. and not vice versa.

it looks like they are in tune with the current state of affairs and it would be unlikely that ethereum could maneuver so as to achieve its goal of getting rid of bitcoin.
I agree with you, my friend above, that the network that has been used by them has clearly provided the best so far, although there may be a change where ethereum starts to cost less but will not be able to overtake bitcoin, because if you look at the market capitalization that has happened, it is clearly already far away different and probably hard to do that.
because until now bitcoin has affected the increase in ethereum and other coins, not the other way around.

It seems that Bitcoin is too strong to beat, so for Ethereum it will never be able to replace Bitcoin. If we compare Bitcoin and Ethereum from marketcap
and trading volume, the difference is very big. So as you said the reality is Ethereum will always be number two and behind Bitcoin. So we can see
Bitcoin always dominates the market, even though it is in a bear market. That's why when we have capital to invest in crypto, always prioritize investing
in Bitcoin. This means that the percentage of investment in Bitcoin should be greater than any altcoins, because Bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency,
then investing in Bitcoin has the least risk compared to investing in altcoins. The opportunity to make a profit from Bitcoin is also very large, as long as
we can be patient holding Bitcoin until the price goes up. In fact, many new projects have been created to replace Bitcoin, but all have ended in failure.

To take over bitcoin it is very difficult to be achieved by ethereum at this time, because the value of bitcoin and ethereum is currently a very far difference, it takes time to achieve this all, it is not impossible, especially since ethereum is starting to improve the existing problems again but everything is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand, then we just wait for developments for the future.

Ethereum price is always connected with Bitcoin and the only way to beat Bitcoin in terms of marketcap is to over perform it during bear season like this which Ethereum don't do right now. Ethereum has a chance to do it before when the smart contract becomes a trending and people thought Ethereum might be a good alternative on Bitcoin busy network but the expectations failed once Ethereum blockchain suffers scalability issue after not handling the first NFT games which is crypto kitty.

I think ETH takeover BTC, there is a chance after few decades....

It's not an easy thing to takeover BTC  even though ETH is the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization because,

> BTC provides lower transaction fees than the traditional online payment systems but controlled by decentralized authority.

> Mainly its price movement has a strong impact on the rest of the crypto market(Including ETH)Cool.

Yes despite at the moment that Bitcoin price is going down but it's still tough and I honestly don't see Ethereum taking over Bitcoin,
although Ethereum continues to grow but it will still be difficult,
Of course we need to see how it continues because this is a crypto which is difficult to predict

It was to note that Bitcoin remains the number 1 among cryptocurrencies and no other coin could beat that. Even though the market of ETH surpasses BTC but that is not the only thing why Btc is on the top, but it is because it was created first and unique.
Anyways, it has no sense to see ETH beating Bitcoin because it is for sure the trust of the people, and their preferred choice of investment goes to Bitcoin, not Ethereum.

I have little faith in Ethereum long term and sold my BTC and Ethereum for XRP and ICP. Most people think that the Ethereum merge scales Ethereum but it does not. Also, staked funds will only be unlocked for users a year after the merge.

Ethereum is the best among the altcoins but cannot take the position of bitcoin is the king in the crypto market and is on top of all currencies. All other currencies in the crypto market increase depending on the price of bitcoin ethereum's price increase depends a lot on bitcoin.

I definitely think that people who believe Ethereum can take over Bitcoin are very naive. Just go around and ask regular people about what cryptocurrency they are familiar with. First answer will always be Bitcoin.
For companies as well, Bitcoin is king. Ethereum is more like son of Bitcoin.
Don't get me wrong, Ethereum going POS is awesome but I still think Bitcoin s cap will never be beaten.

I don't think, it will be possible for Ethereum to overtake Bitcoin because Bitcoin team are seriously working hard to ensure Bitcoin still remain the king among other cryptocurrencies in the market. I believe, whenever Bitcoin price is rising in the market Ethereum and other coins will be rising too, showed that Bitcoin will keep leading the cryptocurrencies for those that think Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin to believe that Bitcoin will remain the king. I think, Bitcoin still have more strong teams than Ethereum because many traders make more profits from Bitcoin investment than Ethereum which will be one of the advantage Ethereum cannot overtake Bitcoin in the market.

Hard to imagine how and when Ethereum could take over Bitcoin. I think the limited supply of Bitcoin is the leading factor why Ethereum would never take it over. With same demand, the value of Bitcoin would only grow with time. We cant expect same with Ethereum. And growing amount of competitor blockchain only strengthen Bitcoin position. And dont forget that Bitcoin was first and is most popular cryptocurrency. It is really hard to take down the "king". Bitcoin and Ethereum are like gold and silver. These two metals have been discovered decades ago, but silver did not manage to take over gold.

in principle, ETH technology wins over BTC, there are applications, smart contracts and many projects in this network, and bitcoin is essentially a measure of value and accumulation, in fact a speculative asset. Therefore, everything is possible.

Looking at the current situation, the price of eth gas is quite cheap, although sometimes it can spike again. However, if the competition is compared to Bitcoin, I don't think it can be, because as we know that Bitcoin has become a mascot for the crypto world and it can also be said that all atcoins are still affected by price movements.

Ethereum can not take over Bitcoin, not even in a 10years time. There's more time for Bitcoin to pump, and I don't see Ethereum meeting it up. Besides Ethereum and altcoins follow the movement of Bitcoin, when Bitcoin is dumping, the same thing apply to Ethereum and the crypto market. Crypto is generally controlled by one of the top coin in the space which have so many investors, Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not relenting in price, and Ethereum always in pursuit of it, moreover Ethereum have it's network which make it more solid than Bitcoin.
