One-off performances are not going to help, I am afraid. They did well against India (although eventually losing that match). But their performance so far in the tournament is less than satisfactory. Bavuma is having an average of 34.36 in test cricket, which is 10-15 runs lower than other South African batsmen. And in T20Is, his strike rate is 113.97, which is again 20% lower when compared to other batsmen. And as a captain he hasn't performed any miracles. He is keeping out Reeza Hendricks from the playing XI. Hendricks have been in terrific form so far in this year, but he is not being given a chance to showcase his skills.
