Good for him, I don't know much a lot with Stephen but Naoya sure is a monster and is worthy of his alias. On 122 lbs, I'm sure that he'll feel something new with that but he's aware of any changes on that division and since he's the undisputed champion on the past division that he has left, it's becoming more interesting not just on him but also the title match that he has vacated.

I don't also see Inoue having issues on 122 lbs, and I think he can bring his power to this division (I hope others will agree with my observation). What I really like about Fulton is his never say die mentality, against Brandon Figueroa, he shows a lot of heart and win that fight in the judges score card. But I don't think he can last against the power of Inoue.
We'll not know yet since it's going to be the first match he's got for his upgrading division. Well, as for Fulton's style, if he's got the heart to never give up.
It's for Inoue to show his prowess that he can end matches too quick and his power is really strong that he might get knocked out, not just by luck but by his strength and style.

Again even in 122 lbs, he might be even powerful in this division because he doesn't have to weight drain himself just to make the desired weight. Now he can eat without issues and then go to the gym train hard every day. Fulton's tenacity will be tested here.
Yes, there will be some adjustments but the skill and the typical Inoue we know will not change and his attributes will remain, we may even see him upgrade that as well.

I think maybe we can base on others who have move up to different divisions and become successful. As someone pointed out, it's just 4 lbs sound, so it's not that huge jump and even us non boxers who gain 4 lbs in the pandemic might not see the difference after all.

So I would also leaning on the premise that Inoue might be good if not better at 122 lbs because his body is going to be fully rehydrated even before the fight and that is a big factor for boxers not needing to drain themselves in weigh-in.

Fulton vs Inoue betting odds here.

https://www.oddschecker.com/boxing/naoya-inoue-v-stephen-fulton/winner

Quote
Inoue 1.40
Fulton 3.00

Inoue is still the heavy favorite despite being a challenger only, it's a huge disrespect for the champion.
What do you think? is that 1.40 is still attractive to take or we will just bet on Inoue winning KO, probably that would give a better odds.

No doubt, I would still take Inoue to win. Most of the fights Inoue does not end in 12 rounds, so if you believe that Inoue will be able to use his power effectively, then most likely this fight will end early. However, we should not be too confident as Fulton is a champion and undefeated, he would not achieve that success if he is not good enough.

That's all because of his past performance and they're taking it from there as a result of his continued dominance over his past opponents, they give him a huge advantage for his upcoming fight and this will gonna be the hardest fight for the champion because he is in need of super training that would gonna be surpassed Inoue's expectation. He needs to take this underestimation as fuel for his training and do everything to prove them wrong. Also, this is his chance to be known because he will gonna automatically snatch Inoue's popularity in their current weight division.

Of course, we should give credit to Stephen Fulton, and has been the champion for the last 2 years, so no doubt that he has what it takes to be the 122 lbs champion. However, he hasn't face a boxer like Inoue, the power and the speed and the accuracy. He even has a chin that hasn't been cracked before.

So very difficult on how Fulton style and tools can upset Inoue as this point. He need to have a good strategy and not to get tag by the power of Inoue. The thing is that Inoue has power in both hands so it's hard to defend that and you can't just run because sooner or later he will be tag by either left or right.

4 pounds is what? I think that's just a little less than 2 kilograms, so I bet Inoue won't be having that much trouble in his climb because the difference isn't that huge. The only challenge for Inoue now that is still considered as a mystery is, how does a natural 122 lbs boxer fight behave and fights inside the ring because we all know here that there's really a difference compared when Inoue's still at 118 lbs.
Some are even saying that it's somehow risky because rather than testing the waters first, Inoue goes directly at a champion. I'd say, I guess we will know it soon.

It could change by May but this is already worth betting on.  Inoue isn't the champ but the odds are insane.  The decision to Superbantam seems necessary for Inoue, or he wouldn't get into fights anymore.

Once the monster also dominates in this division, he'll have to be heavier again as he is not getting younger. The best fighters to fight with are in lightweight where Davis, Garcia, and Haney.

If Inoue decided to take such a step, then he feels that he can do it. There is an underestimation on the part of Fulton, although I see that Inoue is the favorite in this fight with odds 1.4. Maybe it's because the fight will take place in Japan where Inoue will have a lot of fan support, but I don't think Fulton should be underestimated. While there is no exact date for the fight, let's wait for the parties to agree on everything before making predictions.

His trainers would have definitely advise him on what he must do but yeah, during weigh ins there's still some boxers that do have problem on the actual day.
But on his case, he's been a world champion and has gone through a lot of fights and with this small adjustment, he'll for sure will be good when the weighing in day comes.

They are moving up the weight division, so definitely, his camp knows what they are going into.
They won't decide on this matter if they knew Inoue would have hard time catching up on this weight class.
As it is only 4lbs, would not be difficult for him. So my guess is that Inoue can easily achieve and train on this weight.
Right now, the early odds are favoring Inoue with some of the bookmakers giving him at 1.41.
Though it is too early, but I believe bookie will indeed favor on Inoue for this match.

Some are even saying that it's somehow risky because rather than testing the waters first, Inoue goes directly at a champion. I'd say, I guess we will know it soon.

Yes, that's also what I have been pointing out, in lower weight it's good for this boxers to come and move up in weight because there will be no issues with their body trying to squeeze themselves in a certain limit.

For all we know Inoue could be a natural 122 lbs or even 126 lbs as he can hydrate at this weight when he fights at 118 lbs. Meaning after the weigh-in at bantamweight, he can eat and drink and goes to 126 lbs easy. So this could be his walking weight as well, when he is not fighting and off-season, he doesn't have any concern on his weight and watches what he eat.

Inoue needs to grow His career Up and he will not have it if not taking one step forward , he had been dominating the Bantamweight division for years and I think he becomes boring not having a best opponent so this is the best move to challenge His skills and capacity, though Fulton is really strong and skillful , yet Naoya is his best opponent for this title match.
Inoue requires a new challenge, and I think moving into this super bantamweight could be the best decision he could ever do so that he can also see growth in his boxing career. Although the date of fight and the place of venue is still tentative, but it would be obvious that it will be an advantage for Inoue if it will be held in Japan, but of course whoever will have the best performance inside the ring will always have the edge and become the new phenomenal fighter.

the venue should not affect the performance of the boxer. whether it is his home court or not. but yes, inoue needs to step up as he already got all the belts at 118. time to move on with his boxing career. just one step at a time. don't move up at a higher class without testing the lower ones.

As expected, Inoue will be the favorite here, and 1.40 is attractive taking into consideration the punching power and possibility of Inoue KO'ing Fulton.  As one of the replies stated, Inoue might possibly get stronger since he doesn't have to drain so much stamina when meeting the weight requirement.  And besides, it has been planned by Inoue to move up after his last fight probably because he is getting some difficulty meeting the weight of 118, which can be proven by the official weigh-in in his last fight.

It won't affect Inoue but it would make the camp of Fulton worry because history tells us that when a fight is done in Japan, there is a huge possibility of judges giving the fight to a Japanese boxer no matter how good is the performance of the opponent.  Many believe that time unless a fighter knock out the Japanese boxer, he will surely lose. but if Inoue knocks out Fulton, then the camp of Fulton don't have to worry about biased judgement  Grin.

Since creating a big noise in his name in the world of boxing and later on called "The Monster", I don't remember Naoya Inoue being given a @1.4 odds by the bookies. He's always the Favorite but this time, that might be the highest odds I saw for him by the bookies.

To maximize the advantages of betting on Inoue though, better wait for other betting options.

As of now, the fight is still in the progress of finalizing everything but it's almost close to being done deal.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, against Butler he was like 1.02-1.04 ML favorite. So maybe this is just giving respect to Fulton as he is the champion and then Inoue climbing to 122 lbs and we really don't know what he can bring into the table.

Nevertheless for us, it's not good to bet on the ML, I would rather wait for more betting options first, like the Over and Under rounds.

Or maybe the knockout odds as well, but perhaps this is what everyone is anticipating so it will not be attractive.

Fulton may look like a strong contender against Naoya with his sterling record, but he will still be devoured alive by the monster in his own backyard. Although this is another weight division, this move is nothing too much for Naoya.

And since Fulton is not a knockout artist, he will either be strong enough to withstand Naoya's powerful punches or dance around to last the whole fight making points. Or he will give in and fall.

Naoya is definitely the heavy favorite in this match.

Yeah, we can say that way that he is the heavy favorite with along that line of 1.40.

And I guess the rest of us here will agree that even though Fulton is tough, it's a different fighter in Inoue that he will be facing and this could not end very well with Fulton as he might face the canvass in his career and lost via knockout. He almost goes down to Brandon Figueroa's punches with no power. But with Inoue, just a single power punch or even that stiff jab could make Fulton stumble.

That's why that 1.40 odds is still very attractive, bet big on this fight as Inoue will not allow to lose, he is undefeated and called a monster for a reason. Though it's a heavier weight Inoue is still very comfortable here, his first fight should be impressive as he will send a message to the others.
