if i were am victim, i will not reconcile with that cheating cousin, unless she returns all my winnings that she has used, how about you?
Everything in life has pros and cons, some people just want to remain anonymous because of disturbances from families and friends, not because they will feel insecure. As for me if I win such great amount of money, fuck anonymous, I will prefer to just do my thing myself directly, I do not trust people when it comes to money, I even do not trust myself not to talk of trusting people.

That means she wasn't a trustful person. She could be close to him, yes, but not trustful anyway. It wouldn't have been an issue if the man had sent a reliable, honest person in his name to receive the prize. In case there wasn't anyone, then he should have gone by himself and give up his anonymity, unless it's more valuable than a half million dollars, what I really don't think so...
Honestly I would like to trust my relatives and friends even with financial issues. I wonder what would I do if I was cheated with lottery. I would lose all my trust to people.
I think people should use legit lawyers if the they win lottery tho. It would be far better method. I think lottery organizations should find new methods as well to protect customers - like direct checking money going through bank after it was claimed. But I think there is no best solution to it.

If I should go by any means of anonymity then I would rather adopt the pattern used by some man that won a lottery last year 2022, where he got to wear a costume that veiled his face so to make sure even his family people and the public don't get to know about the lottery he had won.
This i would say is the best form of safe anonymity instead of using someone else to stand for you  when it comes to matter of money humans are unpredictable, not even family member can be trusted.

The narrative is truly heartbreaking. Why do so many people change their minds and become greedy in such circumstances? Argueta had luck already when her cousin chose her to receive a $50,000 reward. She also tried to keep nearly all of the money and only remitted a small amount, which was less than her alleged $50,000 reward, making her cousin look stupid instead of grateful for the trust and reward.

It can be therapeutic at times to simply relax and trust anyone easily. However, the hard truth is that trust cannot really be given, especially to strangers and individuals we have not known in a long time.

Well, it depends on the level of relationship that you have with someone that you are planning to assign it to. Unless it's through cheque or something that needs your authorization. You should be wary of that especially if it's a big amount.

I didn't like the way that the lottery winner handled it, it should've been handled personally. I agree with the thoughts of the members here as well. That's way over the line and that's the last straw if that happened to me.

Maybe he has personal things to hide that's why he chooses to send His cousin to work for him but in the end? Money makes a person being sinner and this is what money can do.
Hoping that they will reunite and settled the issue as they are family by blood, but first payment must be given first even if this took long.

if you think about why he entrusted his cousin to take care of everything even though he knew that money would turn good people into bad people, let alone friends and even his own siblings could turn bad, but actually this would be a lesson for him to be more careful in the future. believing in someone should take care of his own winnings would be better

The valuable lesson that can be learned from the story above is that if you want to remain anonymous for your lottery winnings, do it yourself, and don't entrust money-related matters to other people (even if that person is someone close to you)
You mean to be safe and secured(of the money) rather become anonymous. Because i see no reason being an anonymous when it comes to claiming money in person unless you can claim it virtually (using VPN, TOR etc.)
Well, you can, in more legal way, e.g. using your attorney to claim the money instead of some closest friends or relatives. It's better than sorry.

lol. That is a nice life experience. Relatives and money does not come together. Sometimes they are even worse than a complete stranger. When stranger simply scams you, relatives make is even painful by backstabbing.

The "victim" in this story is no better. Tried to stay anonymous for what reason? Cheat with taxes? Hide winnings with family? It a lottery in States, you dont need to worry about safety. If this lottery would be in Columbia, I would worry about my safety, but still go myself to claim the price, but accompanied with an army Cheesy

The lesson of this case: dont try to cheat, be cautions with money and never have money deals with family members unless you want to end contact with them.

I do think that it is counter-intuitive that you want to remain anonymous while also assigning someone to claim your winnings. It is very ironic that the person seemed to think about such idea when in fact it will backfire him immediately.

Unfortunately, the person trusted way too much and eventually lost the $50,000 which resulted to a cheat. If he truly wants to remain anonymous, then he could have claimed his prize money in some other time or at least ask his/her trusted family member to get it.

She must have trusted her cousin so much to entrust that money now his cousin will spend 16-48 months in prison because of his greediness, he thought that he can get away with his crime, the moral of the story here is you just cannot entrust this kind of money even to your close relatives, its good that the victim got the remaining money, whatever the reason to trust anyone that huge amount should not be considered, $1 million is a big temptation to steal and the woman learn it the hard way.

Obviously do not trust anyone, even a cousin or any other family member or best friend with your money. At some point people will betray you. Knowing that, why would you still trust people with large amounts of money?

I think there is something shadier going on. Anyone wishing to stay anonymous for such silly reasons has something to hide and I am sure that that particular person was trying to hide something as well.

People need to be less oblivious to whats going on around them. Seriously.

What we supposed to be good people can change to bad when there's huge money involve then also if they need a money so never trust anyone even if this is member of your family to avoid problem like this. Shady things happen and so I guess there's people working inside has involvement on this that's why she was been cheated easily. But since this issue already happen and maybe she cannot chase it anymore much better to move on since this is really unfortunate and just never trust anyone easily next time.

We don't know the reason for remaining anonymous, but perhaps he just doesn't want to be recognized as someone who has won a lot of money gambling and asked for help from his family to retrieve the money.

But it is correct not to try to cheat, even with your own family. But that can happen when it comes to money because everyone wants to have money and money smells good Grin

I think the lesson to be learnt here are ..when it comes to money, trust nobody.  Roll Eyes  I do not know how many of you had relatives that died and how many of you have been in battles with other relatives over the "money" that was left in the will or testament?

I know of many families who have broken all contact with other family members, when fights broke out..after a testament was read. Money bring out the worst in people.... and you see it, when a "Will" are read. This person trusted a cousin ..... but the cousin is just a greedy b@stard... like everyone else.  Tongue

There's a saying the love of money is the root of all evil and in this story, it manifested, as relatives betraying relatives just for the love of money, the winner will not entrust that huge money if he is not worth the trust, but unfortunately, she was wrong into thinking that being a relative will not betray you.
You really never know if you can trust a person when it comes to huge money until you entrust a huge amount of money, I'm sure the woman will think twice now or even not trust money to any of his relatives.

When it comes to money don't trust anyone other than yourself because everyone in this world needs money as much as you need so if you give them the opportunity to take then don't expect them to be true, just speaking logically though.

Fortunately victim managed to get the decent amount from the winnings but that may not be the case every time when you got betrayed.

I have never tried to get rich at the expense of other people, so I have a negative attitude towards people who can afford money that does not belong to them. If such a story happened to me, then I would definitely stop communicating with my cousin. In my opinion, the actions of this girl are very similar to fraudulent and we all know what punishment is provided for such actions. Of course, I would not want my relative to have problems with the law, but I would definitely stop all communication with her.

if i were am victim, i will not reconcile with that cheating cousin, unless she returns all my winnings that she has used, how about you?
Everything in life has pros and cons, some people just want to remain anonymous because of disturbances from families and friends, not because they will feel insecure. As for me if I win such great amount of money, fuck anonymous, I will prefer to just do my thing myself directly, I do not trust people when it comes to money, I even do not trust myself not to talk of trusting people.

It's not about reconciling first but it's something tht could actually be avoided from the start when you make the won, there are some mistakes that are costly ones which could affect the relationship you had with the person you consulted like in the caee of this cousin, but abstaina is the only key to never start what you will regret after, i never expect the casino as well to accept such an offer from the winner in using someone for representation.

This is very bad because the winner being a cousin to argueta so much entrusted his money and asked him to receive the money on his behalf, why would he play a smart game on him or her because he wants to remain anonymous.
If it was me I would asked him to return all the money then I will use my hand to share to him any amount I wished to give him, but where he went wrong is that he would have gone for it and asked lottery office for him to get a mask instead of showcasing his real face.

Then for the cousin I won't leaving him till all funds are recovered then I will arrest him to teach him a lesson.

This is clearly a form of cheating and it's disappointing on the victim's part because after putting her whole trust in her cousin, she will still get fooled. We should never ever trust anyone even our relatives if huge money is involved. We can't blame the victim because she might have not thought that her cousin would do such a thing to her because of money. Breaking someone's trust for money will ruin your entire life in the end because you'll face the consequences and karma for your actions.
