Can someone be addicted to trading? This is very surprising to me and I am still still skeptical about this...

You can be dependent not only on trade, there is such a term as a workaholic - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workaholic - "is a person who works compulsively. A workaholic experiences an inability to limit the amount of time they spend on work despite negative consequences such as damage to their relationships or health".
There are traders who spend a lot of time monitoring the market and the result is not good for them physically and emotionally, so technically there are some who got addicted in trading in the wrong way even if you are making profit. It’s good to have a rehabilitation facility that can help you how to balanced your life since being addicted to trading can also trigger anxiety and depression. I’m into trading but I still know how to balance my lifestyle and still able to spend time outside trading.

But being a workaholic means addiction. like you are addicted to your job? I'm not sure on this, but the only thing that comes to mind is that you can't control yourself when you are addicted and you want to do it anyway, no matter what circumstances you have. I've experienced checking and sitting in my chair watching the charts all day, but I am not impulsive to do it daily because I need rest and I am not doing it on a daily basis. I think you can call it addiction to trading if he is doing it every day, even if he loses, and looks forward to doing it every day and can't control themselves.

I read the article (even though I don't usually do), and I saw this part of it.
Quote
Symptoms of this addiction, according to Family Addiction Specialist, include constantly checking the prices online — particularly in the middle of the night.
When I saw that part, I was like "How lucky I am that I'm still not experiencing this kind of addiction still."

TBH, this is the kind of addiction that I see that has some benefits or at least there are some good things that you can get by getting addicted into it (maybe). I mean for short term traders, futures traders and those scalpers, they look at the charts constantly because a small move of the market will be huge for them especially for futures traders because a move = either profit or loss to them, but the difference is that, these traders are only trading for a few hours only. An addicted into trading is they are constantly looking at the chart and when I say constantly, maybe around once or twice every hour or 30 mins maybe.

There is a famous quote which is "Too much of anything is bad" so too much looking at the charts can really lead you to addiction. I'm a bit curious on why investors are constantly looking at the market?

Trading addiction has many advantages as well as many disadvantages, so without becoming too addicted, you need to research the market well and gain experience. Avoiding recency bias in trading starts with knowledge, with education you first understand that it is only human nature to be overly impressed by the results of your latest operation. Constantly check the value of coins more addiction leads to worse chance of gain is less it makes more physically and mentally debilitating.

The Feb. 5 report revealed that one of the center’s clients reached out so that he could “wean off crypto” after reportedly pouring in $200,000 worth of trades each week.
I wonder what they did to poured $200k every week in crypto, is it because of the promising profit or they just want money? Since in that news, I couldn't see the reason why such people addicted in the first place. I do agree that getting money through trading is "easy" for "some people" but reaching into addicted phase would be too insane for me.

If you get addicted to something, then that's where worse stuff comes to you.

Yes, I am not doing it at all intensely and avoiding all the fuzz about it  Cheesy
I am keeping it way simple and not putting burden on myself as to what amount of profits I want to earn or whether I just want to continue holding my portfolio for better returns.

Anyways this would come under holding your assets and never looking back until few years or something. I am coping in safest way considering the I am not really selling my assets for low margins or no margins at all.

I read a news yesterday about a Spanish rehab center that is called 'The Balance', a Switzerland-founded wellness center, located in Spain. The Rehab center helps in treating of alcohol, drugs and behavioral health addictions. Recently it is adding trading addiction to its list and I was surprised to see that. You can read more about it:

The rehabilitation center cited estimates that about 1% of cryptocurrency traders will develop an "extreme" addiction to crypto trading.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/spanish-rehab-center-adds-crypto-trading-addiction-to-services-list

I think it would be perfect to bring this trading discussion. Are you addicted to trading? I am thinking that making profit from trading or making losses, there is a chance that some traders are addicted to trading. What are you doing naturally to stay away from trading addiction?
With greed, it’s not surprising you will fall into trading addiction and lose control of yourself. But I believe the addiction is quite manageable here compared to gambling and alcohol addiction since you can control your trades especially you have no sufficient amount to trade. Except for those who have always good bankroll amount, I guess trading addiction is somehow can be predicted. But going into rehab center because of trading, for me there’s no need for that unless if you really want to.

I don't really know if any of us are addicted to trading, but for now I am totally addicted to long term investing in bitcoin. I don't have to deal with this the way they deal with gambling addiction, and it's clear to me that investing addiction is something that is even more profiting in the future.

I have habit of checking price more than 3 times in one day when I really think that day trading is more profitable than long term investing. But once I realized that, I didn't have to and tended to ignore the fluctuations and continue to hold on optimistically. Right now nothing is more profitable for me than a long term investment so this is a focus I will strive for.

The addiction in trading is not the toxic like that of gambling, in trading addiction can just go off after one might have lose good reasonable amount of money and he will get to realise that their must be a stop to it. All this is just caused by greed, it is something that can be handled with time and which most trader learn from this ugly situation. Trading addiction is not something that has gotten to a point one has to visit a rehab center,  it something people can come out from it with time.

Trading addiction is too different from gambling addiction or any of those you have mentioned and I think it was not necessary to be in rehab to cure such addiction. It was indeed becoming an addiction if we are in profit. Why do we have to submit ourselves to such a place if we know that we are addicted for good, not like in gambling we lose more?

Might this thing exist but I don't think anyone will do this.
True, if we only get addicted because we are in constant profits, well at least we should be thankful for it rather than cure it. Because it does not make sense really that you’ll get addicted to trading if you endure losses most of the time, probably if you chase for more profits, maybe trading addiction will possibly develop. But trading is different from gambling, it’s like trading addiction is curable than gambling, so for me, this rehabilitation center may not be totally in need for traders.

Even if you do continuous lose on which this would also create that kind of emotion which would really make you desperate and this what triggers a certain trader to deposit even more to have capital and trying out

to chase those amounts that they have lost.On the time that you are already doing this then you arent doing trading anymore but rather gambling because if you are applying some sort of strategy on how you do reassess the situation then you are still that intact with your mind on how to handle things up.Just dont make yourself that desperate because it would really be making things even more messier.
This is why you should really be still aware on regarding your actions because this is where it do depends on where you would really be heading on.

We could think it was good but thinking about addiction, that somewhat has a negative impact on our lives which we never see. Addiction might be good because they are in profit but it was still beyond the limitation and could affect us mentally which we need to control and slow down. Yes, it was different from gambling addiction but of course, we need to fix this "addiction" to stop in order to anticipate the possible worse scenario in the future which we might regret our whole life.

I used to, I used to trade a lot and nowadays I do not trade at all, I mean not zero but very little, just whenever I want to and see the market moving in a certain direction.

This means that I am not going to end up with a bad result in the long run because most of my money is in long term investments which allows me to make a good chunk of money whenever bitcoin goes up, the trading losses that I could have do not matter to me all that much anymore because they are very tiny compared to amount of money I invested, it is not even 10% of what my investments are, which means if I lose it, there is a chance I could recover that in a single day when bitcoin goes up like it did recently.

Any venture that has the word "addiction" attached to it, is never a good one. If you check carefully, you will see that the individual's physical and mental health, social and personal life, and relationships are affected, either directly or indirectly. Anyone who is addicted to trading despite having losses is just chasing losses. There is no professional trader that I know who has been very successful with trading who wouldn't advise beginners on the need to maintain a balance.

By the way, if you have a friend who has good trading results and doesn't mind showing you his trades, then that might be acceptable.

But this can be used as an example of a good trader who makes money from it. And his deals should be taken as good tips, but the final decision should still be made by yourself, since this is your money and only you are responsible for its safety.

Well, you may not be able to react as quickly as he will, if you need to quickly buy or quickly sell some coins. Therefore, I would always rely only on myself, even if I had a friend who is very good at trading.
If you have a friend that knows how to trade, it has makes some steps easy for you to climb. If you know what you are doing, you can easily know from your friend because in everything you do with him, you will have experience if you really want to know how to trade.

About reacting quickly, it is scalping and I do not see anything difficult in that if he is not a greedy person. It is scalping, it gains little and he close the position opened. But the best I will suggest beginners is at least swing trading. Scalping, day trading and other short term trading that is not swing trading may be easy for newbies to lose money, even professionals too.

I totally feel ya when you say havin' a homie who knows how to trade can give ya an edge. But lemme tell ya, every trader's got their own style, risk tolerance, and market perspective, so you can't just blindly follow what they do. Ya gotta learn from 'em, ask questions, and then make your own moves based on what works for you.

Now, when it comes to scalping, it's true that it can be lucrative, but it ain't for everyone. You need mad quick reaction time and serious discipline to stick to your strategy. And if you're just in it for the paper, forget about it. I remember one time when I tried scalpin' without much experience, and I made some impulsive decisions and ended up losin' a grip of cash. That was a tough lesson to learn, but it taught me the importance of havin' a solid trading plan and takin' my time.

As for swing tradin', that's a good strategy for beginners. It gives you more time for analysis and decision-makin', and it's way less stressful than short-term tradin'. Remember, it ain't about how much you make, it's about how much you keep. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race. So keep that in mind, and keep grindin', my friend.

Long-term investing is not an addiction, I don't know what is a sign of a long-term investment addiction unless you don't want to sell your bitcoins and want to keep it forever until you die Grin Grin.
It is not good to be addicted to trading or to anything. I believe no one can always win in trading and if we are addicted to it, when we lose, if we can't control our emotions and addictions, it's easy to lose big. To me, called addiction will never be good.

for a newbie getting some early profits in their trading, even if it's small it sure breeds a feeling of addiction. and how long they can cope, depending on their ability to control themselves and be aware of the mistakes they have made.

I just wonder if there could be any more info about being addicted to trading. The article only gave out checking prices constantly, even in the middle of the night regardless of everything or anything. I mean I've been there, but I wouldn't have considered myself addicted to trading (and it was rather light, definitely didn't wake up just to check prices). Well, I definitely felt the stress of trading, I wasn't even aggressive heck I was actually scared of every drop to the point where I lose money instead of profiting.

And honestly, if you have the skills, I'd consider addiction to trading be well worth it at some point.

I think that checking prices is not an addiction, and that is something that I see as normal, since when there is a culture about Bitcoin and the way of operating it is something that is acquired depending on the type of operator, for example I am more into operating in the medium and long term, that is something that I do like this, because operating in the short term is not convenient for me because I am not very good in that temporality, however I want to learn, but I think that you need to know a lot to do it I have seen that some of them burn the account, and that is what should be avoided.

trading for some people is done for daily income. so they try to always win, even though we know those who are experienced in trading can still get losses.
Always trying to win is a human nature, it is difficult to accept losses or defeat or learn from a loss what their mistake was. Those who are able to do that are the tiny percentage who stand out.

Winning and earning are different. I believe winning is more applicable to the types of trading other than Spot, which Spot trading is a type of earning, because the former is a type of gambling with EV- while Spot is not.

Keep in mind that newbeis who never traded will get addicted to prediction games, futures and so on. But Spot needs you to rack your brains which is overlooked by money hungry newbies.

Everything that is done abused always create a negative motivation that will lead into an addiction. And with addiction, everything will be affected especially if you keep ignoring it and instead, continue to chase more profits so you can benefit them more. However, with trading addiction, it can be more manageable because you can actually stop trading if you have no funds to start it with. Therefore, being addicted into trading is probably more on seasonal that you can anytime stop your addiction if the market too is not allowing you to be profitable.
