Recently, I came to read this news

https://protos.com/spanish-police-rescue-crypto-investor-kidnapped-on-holiday/

The first thing that came to my mind after reading this was that one should not talk about his crypto investments with strangers or friends as it can pose various risks. If you are active on forums like bitcointalk and involved in trades, you should not give information which can help others relate to your identity.
Actually, incidents like this do not only happen to people who invest in crypto, because there have been many other incidents that are related to what is called the act of holding and kidnapping. This all happened, of course, because the person who was kidnapped was a rich man, but by chance his wealth was obtained from the result of having crypto assets. But about your opinion regarding keeping crypto assets secret from other people, I think it's okay to tell other people. But on condition, that person is someone who is really very close, then don't tell in detail, and only tell if that person asks first. But even then, if you really believe in the person you want to tell, if you're not sure, keeping it secret is also fine. Because keeping it secret is indeed a safer zone. And in essence, all investors in crypto must be more careful, because crime will always exist in this world, the most important thing is that we all have to be more vigilant.

That's what I'm wondering, people always talk about keeping crypto investments secret for fear of being kidnapped, stolen... but what about assets like gold and fiat? What about valuables? Will they keep it a secret or show it off everywhere?
You are right, not only with bitcoin but with all our assets we should keep it secret. Do not arbitrarily brag to anyone, especially to strangers on social networks.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

The importance depends on how frequent you flaunt your investment and there are also several factors to consider, which are as follows:

  • First, if you living in a space where crimes are prevalent, then it is better to keep your investments to yourself;
  • Second, you must also consider the degree on how frequent you share your investments. Though sharing is not perse bad, you must couch and phrase it in a way that you are not trying to show-off all of your investments; and
  • Also noteworthy to mention is the amount of information that you share publicly. This affects others that may take advantage of the information that you share especially if you add details that prejudice your own security; and

At the end of the day, a person may share their investment with others but they must keep in mind the information that they will share also. Sharing personal information with real-life values may trigger others which may compromise your safety.

I think many have heard the phrase: money loves silence. Everything related to finances is better not to discuss with anyone except with people with whom you have a common business, with other people I always ignore these conversations. Why once again discuss this with people whom I do not know well.
By avoiding unnecessary conversations, you and your finances will always be safe - this rule works flawlessly.

I think that is always a bit of fear and rumors people like to talk about. Surely there were some people in this world that lost their lives because others wanted to steal their crypto, but can't we say the same thing for everything else. Hell if we are talking about fiat, it's a physical object so people could literally stop you on the road and steal your money, and you would not be able to do anything, at least with crypto there is nothing like that.

Today if a robber stops me on the road, the most they could ever steal from me would be 10-20 bucks, aside from that I would have nothing, maybe my phone as well which I have some sensitive info but nothing that would profit them at all. So all in all I would guess it's not a bad idea to keep it on bitcoin.

Everyone have got something to be personal, one amongst is the finance. It is good to have discussion regarding the goodness of technology and how transition is happening around in each and every sector. By the time leaving comments on your holdings is a bad idea. Here we have come across one such incident where the person is lucky enough to escape with the help of Police team that got into action very fast. We can't expect things to be the same everywhere.

We think it a pride to reveal what we've got in the wallet. We never think the same to be problematic for us. It is good to segregate what can be revealed to the outer world, even to the closer ones and what shouldn't be!

Know when to tell things and when not to. But when it comes to investments and life’s achievements, it’s better to keep your privacy and never let other people become aware about it. Just like never share your plans as it could be ruined by them without you knowing. Maybe it’s a good thing that I never trust people easily even those my closest friends because I always believe those who have known you so well might be your best enemy in the future. That’s why if we can keep things privately and secretly, much better so as to avoid ourself from being put into danger.

Is there really a need to share what’s been going on in our private life? I guess the fact that people are too trusting even in strangers make them the immediate target of the scammers or kidnappers. Because if they just live life simply like what regular people did, they won’t end up being kidnapped or scammed in some ways. But the moment that they start to boast their achievements, even if the intention is not really bragging, but people will always see it differently. Most particularly for scammers and hackers as they always find victims as it’s also their only source of income in order for them to live.
Certainly not. Even our own family are sometimes not trustable at all. So if we can keep important things especially our investments, then the better. I guess the person in the story is just only living the freedom he wants but since he has been the apple of the eye of some kidnappers because of his investments, then it’s easier for them to set their own plan. Luckily, he was rescued fast and safely but I don’t think the same will happen to anyone who has been kidnapped and put their own selves into danger. So it would still be best to never show off what you have especially when it comes to money matters. It seems that you are bragging what you have that could make other people feel envy on you.

You are right, we should keep our personal information from public forum like this place especially regarding to our crypto investment. i think this is a same reason why satoshi nakamoto keep being anonymous and do not reveal his / her personal identity to anyone in this forum even no one in the world know who is him / her.

One of the main reasons on why Bitcoin or crypto market did really make out that significant popularity on just because of its anonymity and decentralized features and this is why it would really be that just common sense that you should really be that confidently speaking up your holdings on how much it would be and never ever expose yourself about your identity. You are really that putting yourself into a great danger knowing that criminal minds would really be just lurking in the dark and really just that simple waiting up for the right person for them to steal money from or would be the worst you would really be abducted or be kidnapped
once they do know that you are holding that significant. It would really be that a suicide if you do keep on telling that you are a crypto guy. It would really be having no sense about
sharing up your holdings on which you are really that putting  yourself on huge risks which is something that we should really be avoiding on doing so.

You are right. I wouldn't even discuss any of my serious financial lifestyle with another person unless it was my family, and even if it were my family, they would only know about everything at the right time. It's not good to spill everything at once; one is supposed to still keep some secrets to themselves and only say them when it's really necessary. Even the people you say you are in business with should not know everything. Some people are very envious at times, and you cannot tell who is not really happy with your success; they may pretend as if they like you.

Yep, that works just fine as long as you will keep your circle small with people who does have the same goal and version so that some unintended words will not leave your area because why would they pit you into some dangerous if they are also busy achieving their goals in life, right? It makes more sense to keep it that way rather than taking about your lifestyle to some strangers or even people that you know but is not that close with you, you know keep them guessing but don't share some information about you that could put you at risks.

You're right on this but I think this isn't a big deal anyone as everyone is already expected to hold their possessions at heart and not sharing it with strangers not even family.
Alot has happened in the world and cryptocurrency industry at large and people ought to learn how to safeguard  and secure their hodlings no matter how little it might be.
The bitcoin industry  is already a very risky one from the volatile  nature of it to the criminal  and scam attacks on it and for no reason should one expose their holdings expect on exceptional cases.

But I have this question, if we keep it quiet and keep it completely secret, don't reveal it to anyone, including our loved ones. So how do we make bitcoin popular and people know about bitcoin? Is this too contradictory when people say actively spreading bitcoin to people and getting them out of the bank? I think sharing is up to each of us, bitcoins are money, too, so protect them the same way we protect our assets.

In my opinion telling someone others and your love ones about the bitcoin is an idea full of benefits because in this way they will be easily get profit and if you help them in their harsh condition they will surely help you whenever you need it. Spreading should not be stopped but spreading secure data should be stopped because the society is unable to predict and their habits are hidden so try to spread that information which is beneficial for him but should not be harm for you.

It is counterproductive to talk about the amount of money we get and where it comes from. We must be very careful with the people around us because we do not know if they are coming or are planning something to harm us knowing that we are financially well off. For this and many other reasons, I don't see the point in disclosing or showing off what we have, the more anonymous one remains, the safer.

The matter what death is inevitable there is possibility that people were envy about the guy. In life whatever you do people will hate you. I don't believe it because of the given trading information to friends or customers but because enviness for his appearance and his social lifestyle would make the enemy to strike him to death.

But keeping quiet with you Wealth assets is good because really it will save you from untimely dead and unnecessary attacked by the opposition. There are sometimes that your best friend is the one launched those attacks because enviness. But in the revise part it is good people know your sources of income because if not they use names to tag you and say blood money or he has join cult or did ritual to get money. And with that people will afraid to come close to you.

Maybe he talked about his money while drunk.
I know people who are very careful to hide their fortune that they have made in the crypto world. Many people hide a lot of money even from close people. It is not known how a person will behave when he finds out that you are rich. Even the closest person can betray
You have always remember that what you do not say - others will not be able to use against you. How many people have lost their money because of the desire to brag

Interesting story, it'll be useful. Thank you

Is not a good idea to talk or showcase our bitcoin wallet or anything that indicates bitcoin which belongs to us to friends mostly strangers because hundred's of people want the same thing on the Wallet we are holding, I am kinda sorry for the victim but it will sound as a little warning to the victim and others too, if we want to tell or show our bitcoin wallet to some one that should be our parents/family not people out side, although is really tempting to announce to others about bitcoin mostly when we got profits from it.
Bitcoin is not something people will keep to our self's but we should also know the types of persons we should tell.

It's better to be safe than sorry. I think if we're going to be vocal with our Bitcoin holdings, it's better to use some safe and counter words as if we're no longer have it.

Like, "Yeah, it was a good investment until I've sold and made a profit from it and then I've spent all of my profit for my needs and entertainment."

And from there, you'll stop that you'll put it on their minds that you will still plan to buy it but you don't know when. I know there are friends of us that we can trust but most of them can't. So, if you're gonna be talkative and overwhelmed talking about your assets, always make sure to use safe words and make them believe that you're once into it but not anymore today.

Besides the threats to security that comes with letting other people know you have a wad of money under bitcoin, you are also risking yourself from getting screwed over by your spouse or girlfriends if things went south and you guys get divorced. I read a story just a few weeks ago bout some guy losing out on his investments because his wife found out somehow that he has bitcoin investments, and even though he didn't really tell the wife of anything about it, he was caught thanks to financial statements and tax reports that don't make sense.

So yeah, if you want a happy life, keep your bitcoin investments to yourself, you'd save yourself from the peering eyes, and the people who would want to get a piece of your bitcoin pie, as well as legal problems in the future that may or may not arrive.
