What's the purpose of earned merit? does the user with 270 earned merit should be unbanned than the user with 32 earned merit? check the thread and you will see the user with 32 earned merit deserve to get unban than the 270 earned merit.

I'm not really sure if this thread is important because most of users got banned shouldn't get unban or changed to signature ban, only few of them deserved.

the OP just made a 2023 version of the thread he shared at the bottom of his post, he is not saying or implying anything that someone should be unbanned. also, judging from the link the OP shared, it looks like the purpose of the thread is to make it easier for global mods to quickly find ban appeal request that has been created in meta(I am not saying that the thread would help much though).

I've decided to gather in one thread information on all requests for unbanning and progress of current unban. Maybe this topic will save the Meta section from turning into [UNBAN APPEAL] and will help global moderators to navigate faster in requests for unban.

In fact, according to what Theymos said before, exceptions to permaban and giving a second chance to a banned forum member can be granted in special cases where that member is of great importance to the entire forum due to his reputation, because of his great contribution to the entire forum community etc.
Such cases are very rare, but the number of merits can be one of the indicators of the importance and reputation of an individual member for this forum and maybe show whether that member has a real chance to get a new chance on this forum after permaban.
Theymos always takes into account the opinion of the forum community before making a final decision.

There's been no policy change. redsn0w wasn't permanently banned due to several factors which made me think that permabanning him would be a net negative for the forum. Nobody is banned strictly because of "the rules"; it's always handled case-by-case, but almost always, plagiarists deserve to be permabanned.

If you think that a ban should be ended, make your case in a new topic from a "good for the forum as a whole" perspective.

Did the OP mention anywhere that the user with 270 earned merits should be unbanned than the user with 32 earned merits? Is it the first time of seeing such a statistical posts with earned merits inclusive?

Why do you feel a thread that assembled ban appeals is not important. Maybe on a very good day, moderators may want to review ban appeals and with this thread it will be easy to locate the appeals.
I don't actually know why you approached the OP with so much -ve energy. If you feel the OP did rubbish you could atleast scroll pass and allow others to contribute  

Op, I see that such a thread existed...just that it was abandoned and last update 2019. You can make this more standard and keep updating it.

Creating this kind of topic I'm seeing it as irrelevant, because your analysis can't make the ban user's to be free from their crime, for someone to be ban it's obvious that the user has disobey the rules and regulations of the community, i will advice you not to solicit for any user that's ban to be unbanned because you don't know the status of he or her crime, every banned user's have to appeal and continue to seek for help to unban them, unbanning account is not something that come easily because moderators who is responsible for banning of any particular user account have it's cogent reasons of doing that.

I don't think there's any progression to the status of appeals. It's either the issue gets resolved which renders the appeal thread unusefull or the account in question gets revoked.

Either ways, a thread such as this seems unnecessary for me. Should one need yo make reference to appeals, they could always use the forum search function.

Like others have said, it's irrelevant creating this sort of thread and I doubt anyone would be submitting appeals to you. Those who owns an appeal thread could always just bump it should they need it at the top of discussions.

Why not?
At least it is easy for us to know those who've been banned and who have a banned appeal even though we know that there's a tiny chance of unbanning in plagiarism cases or it might be easy for admin to check the banned appeal list.  I don't even know who are they and how many of them.

@OP, I think the most important to know is the reputation status of the banned user you must include, that could be helpful.
I hope you keep up to date with your thread.

When i saw the merit statistics as well, what came my mind was if that was the total amount of merits they have earned althrough there stay on the forum or if that was the numbers of merit their ban appeal generated as i see the difference and margin they all have from each other in respect of ranks.

There are more than these users being banned on the forum since the beginning of the year but i want to believe OP only take time to fish out those that make an appeal for being banned, though this has nothing to do with increasing their chances but may be a way of keeping an update on ban appeals made this year, am surprised no newbie has appeared on the list, do they not consider making an appeal or don't know how to make one.

To make a thread clean you need to make it self-moderating topic and since you can't create self-moderating topics here maybe reputation^[1] board is the right place, otherwise the thread will be filled with comments like mine.

I remember a year or more ago it was easy to get an unban in exchange for signature banning for a year or two, but you need a convincing reason to get such deal, in addition to the reason for the ban being a single post and not a permanent habit from the user, so I hope you divide the topic into people who have been banned Because of one or two posts, people have been banned for many posts (mostly they will not be unbanned).

@SeriouslyGiveaway, at least one date is wrong, because as far as @GreatOrchid is concerned, the date of appeal is actually 29 March 2019. The new thread shouldn't even have been opened, but the whole story doesn't make much sense anyway.

I don't mind seeing such a compilation despite the general feeling being that most users who posted are against it. I know you used the same style as Alex_Sr when he created the original topic back in 2019, but my eyes are hurting when I look at the way the dates are written. I am talking about the year first followed by the month and then the day of the month. I would suggest the normal D/M/Y style instead.

The list can be helpful only to know who was banned but would it help the case for these ban participants to get unbanned  I dont think so.

But then he spends the time and effort to combine and produce this list. Anytime spent should be productive for some purpose and I again fail to understand the purpose of this. The ban participants, if they see this thread, may get some hope that maybe someone will review their case again but in most cases, the right decision was already made by the forum mods.

Why it's too hard to understand the purpose? I find it useful. He just combined the data and added the ban appeal thread link here in case moderators want to take a look. Indeed, the right decision was already made. But, Don't forget that if a ban appeal were created and they got some support from the community, moderators might unban them. This thread could help both Banned users and moderators as well. I didn't know that many ban appeals were made. Let's say someone was banned and created a ban appeal thread. Some prominent members know them and see the user as a good asset. They might want to help them by supporting their ban appeal.

From this thread, more people will be able to review their ban appeal and leaves their opinion about the ban. If a banned user gets a good number of support from the community and moderators feel they deserve a chance, they might unban them. Global mods are not always active. they might miss some of the ban appeals. This thread's data could be useful for them as well. They can check the ban appeals from here as well.

This is excellent mate. Compiling the list in this format would make it easier for moderators to access and work smoothly. I like the way you arranged it, well coordinated and organized but I think this board is not the right place to have it as said by other member. Sending it to reputation board and applying for it to be pinned would make sense do it would remain at the top front page for easy access by all members and those who have appealed for review.

Lastly, I checked the list you have made op. I am surprised to see that a legend earned 1 merit which I think is a typographical error and needs to be corrected otherwise it will be misunderstood by members who are not clear about this.

It is not a typo, because the column is titled as Earned merit. Merit system was not from the beginning of a forum and when it was implemented users with achieved ranks got airdropped merits to keep their ranks. So this user's got 1000 airdropped merits when the system was implemented and then he earned just 1 merit from other users.

By the way, if we talk about this table, what about sumangs ban appeal? It is strange that not all appeals are here.

Thank you for the observation sir. I had no idea it happened that way years back but based on my existence on this platform I thought OP did not calculate or possibly missed it somewhere so I had to call OP attention to it for correction. As you have said, I am just knowing or hearing it for the first time that merits was airdropped based on forum rank achievement then. Now I get it clear why OP did that and it seems that was the only efforts that account has made in getting merits  since their existence here.
